Hi, and welcome to the WikiProject Greece! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Greece.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our sidebar points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The Announcements and Open tasks section is updated quite regularly. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPGreeceOpenTasks}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Interested in working on a more complete article? The peer review department of the project would welcome your help!
- Interested in a particular area of Greek history, geography, culture etc. ? There are already two task forces, and you could initiate the creation of more focusing on specific topics or periods.
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every Greece related article in Wikipedia.

Dave Kleiman
A tag has been placed on Dave Kleiman, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Dave Kleiman (re LoPbN)
_ _ God, i am such a pathetic sucker. Here (below the horizontal rule) i am, reading chapter and verse to you, and taking pains not to draw inferences as to more than plain facts, and when i look at the article, it screams the truth.
_ _ It uses the piping "Forensic Computer Investigator" on the lk to computer forensics, an article that uses the phrase only once, only in lower case, only in the plural, and makes not the slightest hint in its lead 'graph nor its ToC of concerning itself even remotely with even training of personnel, let alone certification that someone qualifies as a "Forensic Computer Investigator". The NPoV content would be
- computer-forensics investigator
or
- investigator in computer forensics
because the syntax of "forensic computer investigator" has "computer investigator" as a unit that is modified as a whole by "forensic", the two- and three-word phrases are not transparent, and we don't have an article on "computer investigator" any more than we have one on "forensic computer investigator". Why violate the principle of least surprise by lk'g to an article on methods, in a way that looks like the article will be about the people who use the methods? Probably either
- _ _ bcz there is such a certification or at least a consensus that there should be such a job title and the people in it should have extensive specialized training. (Not relevant on LoPbN entries, nor in the lead sentence of a bio, but useful elsewhere in the bio as long as there's at least a rd-lk for an article, or preferably at least a stub that says at least whether there is a clear industry-wide meaning for the term.)
- _ _ bcz the author thinks the bio's subject is so cool that it would be a shame to discuss them without giving them the kind of dignity that people with capitalized titles before or after their names seem to be accorded.
_ _ Likewise, comparing to the bio your protestation "not a programmer" and your (in retrospect insulting) intimation that i would not call him a "computer scientist" unless i were ignorant of the meaning of "computer forensics", i find that the bio itself makes clear that he practices programming, and clearly is an instance of a "computer scientist". You did not mean what you said: plainly he is a programmer, but for some reason you made a statement you knew to be false (which predictably misled me as to your meaning and wasted my scarce time) when you could have added one lousy word and said "not just a programmer".
_ _ I note that IMO WP:AFG is irrelevant here: i don't think it occurred to you that you were misleading me. But lack of bad intention doesn't rule out culpability. IMO you have a WP:COI, tho i don't know, or care much, what its source is. (CoI is (or at least matters bcz of) a common state of mind, not simply a case of the objective situations that are often described as "appearance of a" COI, and often lead to the state of mind. I am saying you are over-invested in this article and its subject's grandeur, and you're letting it distort your editing and your editorial negotiations. You should (if you're an adult, etc.) have known better. IMO, you are an irresponsible editor if you fail to
- (re-?)read WP:COI with sufficient repetition and seriousness that you start finding its content embarrassing,
- study it beyond that point, and
- periodically review it.
_ _ As to the entry, i am going to edit it again in light of what i learned as a result of being dragged into reading a bio that i have no interest in. I urge you not to be in a rush to check it out. After a decent interval, read or re-read what is below, and msg me on my talk page if you have a problem with the entry. I consider you at this point as bearing the burden of proof that you are suited for editing that entry, and i may well rv without inspection any undiscussed edit you make to that section of the page.

- In reference to your edit in the List of People by Name for this person, he is a computer forensics person and not a computer scientist or a programmer. Perhaps you are not familiar with what computer forensics is.

_ _ I am familiar enough with the meanings and contexts of cyber-security, programming, computer science, and computer forensics to find it amazing that anyone would be so pedantic as to insist on the distinctions you seem to find important. Unless, of course, it were no coincidence that
- "Kimon" is within a phoneme of being pronounceable as "Kleiman", and
- Constantine Andreou has a sea of User:Kimon edits;
if these bios deserved suspicion of WP:COI (even if only in the form of "that's my name too" vanity), i would be reminded that those with an emotional involvement in the relative status of a person can be as picky abt terminology as a Trotskyist who's just been called a Trotskyite.
_ _ In any case, the operative term here is "excessive detail" as opposed to the "lo-res trmnlgy" that i refer to so often in summarizing LoPbN-tree edits. The list does not exist as a source of information, but as a means of access to the info contained in the bio article on the person that the user had in mind when they opened one of its pages. (And in the bio, you can specify ...

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies
Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Your AIV report
Thanks for filing a report at WP:AIV. However, I did not block the user you reported, because the edit history shows that IP address hasn't been warned in almost a month.
To clarify, here's what most administrators expect to see before issuing a block:
- User vandalizes a page
- You warn them with {{uw-v1}} or {{uw-v2}}
- User vandalizes again
- You warn them again with {{uw-v3}}
- User vandalizes again
- You issue a last warning with {{uw-v4}}
- User vandalizes again
- You report them to AIV
Hope that clears things up. I know it's a long process, but we want to give everyone enough chances to mend their ways before we block them. Yes, it wastes a lot of time, but it's the only way to keep Wikipedia free for everyone. Thanks again for your efforts at fighting vandalism. "James Frishman" Dispute
Thank you for clarifying this. I will recreate the page with added resources in the near future. You seem like a very level headed admin and I appreciate that. I am concerned, however, with what I would describe as a knee-jerk reaction on the part of Academic Challenger. He deleted the article literally seconds after I had created it. I really think that that action was uncalled for, but I will assume that he acted in good intent for the time being. Unfortunately, I have seen this type of thing before with some admins and I find it to be a rather disappointing pattern. I just wish the "little people" around here could have a say in things when admins start unnecessarily throwing their weight around. Errant Venture 23:03, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks but, I'm not an admin. I've had articles of mine tagged with the {{csd}} tag and fought it. You can do that too by adding the {{hangon}} tag and explaining the notability in the page's talk page. It is not meant to imply that the person in question is not notable, just that the notability has not been asserted and the page appears to be a vanity page. I recommend reading WP:BIO, it's a great place to start when writing someone's biography.
- In any case, something I do before creating a new article is starting it in one of my user subpages and then creating the actual article after there some mention of notability. In any case, welcome to Wikipedia and enjoy your stay! --Kimon 23:10, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Balance IT
Hi--An article I wrote was put on track for speedy deletion, and I'm trying to fix it. In my article, I focused on an innovation in the field of pet nutrition for home-cookers. Would it be better if I wrote a broader article about pet nutrition, and still included this information? Also, is it fair game to use an article from the associated press on here. There is one that covers the same subject that I know about.

- The reason why that article was marked for speedy deletion was because it was written as an advertisement for the company. If you would create a new article on the company and made it appear as an encyclopedic entry, then it would be fine. Look at the articles written for other companies (e.g. Ralston Purina Company).
- If you want to focus on pet nutrition for home-cookers, as you said, you can write a broader article about that and mention various approaches in a balanced manner.
- As for using an article from the Associated Press, please make sure that you are allowed to use it here. It would be a lot better if you wrote the Wikipedia article yourself and referenced the AP one. Check out WP:C --Kimontalk 17:38, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Please do not remove images without first discussing it with the other editors. In this case, the stamp, which is PD in both Greek and U.S. law, is a fitting representation of 5 of modern Greece's 7 kings and accordingly belongs in the article. Argos'Dad 03:44, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- I removed the image as well as the navbox for the House of Oldenburg-Glücksburg to make the article look better. Just because an image is in the PD doesn't mean it should be in the article.
- I do agree with you that I was remiss in not discussing this in the article's talk page. I also agree that the stamp portraying 5 of the kings is indeed relevant.
- Perhaps if the article had some more text, the location of the image would not appear so odd.
- May I suggest adding the images to the Commons area and creating an wiki link to all the images that don't fit in the article? Something like {{Commons|Kingdom of Greece}}

- I agree with you about the layout, and I am intending on expanding the article to discuss the Greek concept of the Dedilomeni Principle and the Venizelos-Constantine struggles that defined the Crowned Democracy. I am not prepared to block a user after only one warning - Wikipedia guidelins suggests four, exceot in cases od serious personal attack or gross obscenity, etc. But I have told the editor you warned for vandalising the Chavez atricle that one more time and he's gone.--Anthony.bradbury 00:06, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- In general, I agree but look at these 2 consecutive edits[1] and the following one (after my revert) which made me report him [2]

Template:WPGreece
Since it seems that I am damp in these issues (although I created this template; I still wonder how I managed to!!!), and after seeing the nice addition of the List-Category, could you maybe have a look at this issue as well: the template generates the Category:Disambig-Class Greek articles, but in the template itself the disamb link remains red - it links to a non-existable Category:Dab-Class Greek articles. I think a similar problem exists with Category talk:Greek articles by quality.I don't know what I am doing wrong! Could you somehow fix this mess?!

Something is wrong with the template
Something is wrong witht the template. It generates even in articles' rating (start, stub, GA, FA): "This page is not an article and does not require a rating." See also here. Cheers!--Yannismarou 08:04, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Now, after the renaming, it seems there is a mess with the redirects. The template does not appear; it just appears the redirect. If you cannot fix it, move the template to the previous name (WP:Greece), and let Baris fix it if he wants to. Cheers!--Yannismarou 17:03, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Kimon. No, I do not have the honor of being a NRA member. I live in hoplophobic Spain, where buying a simple break action shotgun requires extensive paperwork and exams. This is gun hell, man.
OTOH, I kindly suggest you to de-programme yourself: If you say "gun control", you talking the talk of our adversaries. Talk about "gun rights" or "armed victims".
Where´s the "official" userbox for a hoplofhilic?. I made my user box on my own.

Kingboyk's plugin in AWB
Hi - just a quick note to tell you that the "auto-stub" checkbox in the Kingboyk plugin doesn't actually look through the article to see if it is a stub. The function is instead designed to be used when iterating through the talk pages of a category such as Category:Writer stubs, and is named as it is because it gives the stub quality parameter, and also adds the note about it being auto-assessed. It may be an idea to go through your past AWB edits (for assessments) and fix the cases where the article wasn't actually a stub (as well as disabling the function in future!). - Ahh - OK. Kingboyk and I had just noted that a lot of the articles were not stubs, so presumed that the function was incorrectly set (a mistake I made when first using the plugin). Anyway, I'm glad you know what you're doing :) Thanks, Martinp23 19:16, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- All you should have to do is ask one of the bot operators, providing a list of categories to go through, and some form of consensus that it should be done (consensus within a WikiProject should be good enough). It also helps if you can point out any articles in the categories which should *not* be tagged, and, of course, tell us which template to use. Thanks, Martinp23 19:27, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
