Kermit[edit]

Have you any thoughts about Kermit Paint Factory? I am concerned that it might be an hoax since it gets zero Google hits. The author of the article claims here to have references but has not given any. -- RHaworth 15:41, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've never written on anyone elses talk before so I hope I dont balls it up!
I lived in Pudsey for a while, no Idea if the paint factory is real, a bit before my time I'm afraid. I could probably find out if I got some addresses for the factories. Several hundred jobs sounds a little dubious though.
On a completely different topic, do you know how I can make the map to put in the '{{infobox with map}}'? I cant figure it out. And another thing, do you know any good sites to find uncopyrighted photos?
King of the North East 23:30 11 July 2006

You did not balls it up - your message on my talk page was perfectly OK but I have brought it here cos I like to keep the thread together. But did you sign your comment with ~~~~ ?

Maps. What I usually do is find a dotty map for another place within 10 or 15 km and then use it either in {{GBmap}}, eg. Kettleshulme or {{Infobox England place}}, eg. Ulverston. Category:GBdot contains a list of all the dotty maps. There is a generic template:GBthumb which lets you put the dot anywhere but I find it too messy to use (and I created it!). And I've just noticed a new version of that, described in Template talk:Infobox England place and used in eg. Bolton-le-Sands.

Uncopyrighted photos. You can search the photo sharing sites such as flickr, multiply or fotopic (note fotopic is in Wakefield) for ones with an appropriate licence but it may be a long search. All images on geograph are on a licence that allows Wikipedia to use them - please upload them to the Commons and put a proper {{geograph}} tag on them. -- RHaworth 00:25, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock Me Please[edit]

I was in the middle of making a table of Listed buildings in Leeds, I accidentally put it into Category:Category:Listed Buildings in Leeds, (a category I created and populated) when I meant to put it into Listed buildings in Leeds so I cut and pasted it from one to the other and got barred.

I am fairly new to wikipedia so i didnt know that deleting my own work would be considered as a crime against the system.

I have contacted the administrator responsible, (User:DragonflySixtyseven) but have had no response.

You got no response because of timezones. I live in Montreal, and I just woke up 20 minutes ago. I concede that the block was in error; I'll fix that. DS 11:22, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Im sure that you do a lot of good work stopping vandals and hoaxers, but I hope you will try to avoid blocking inexperienced wikipedans in future as it is very discouraging to be blocked. Especially after all the time I've spent researching and contributing over the last couple of weeks, not to mention all the grief I've suffered from my wife who thinks its a big waste of time.

cheers for the unblock

-King of the North East 11:47, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sorry you feel put upon but a large chunk of wikipedia content was deleted by an anonymous user who did not leave an edit summary. This is a frequent type of vandalism here, and I'm not surprised the IP was blocked. A warning would have been appropriate, but on the other hand the original block was only for an hour (trying to edit afterward probably trigged a 24 hour autoblock). The IPs used by logged-in editors are concealed per the privacy policy, so there's no way any admin could know in advance that the anonymous IP doing the page blanking was a legitimate user who had accidentally been logged out. It would have helped if you were a consistent user of edit summaries. That's a very important way of letting people know what you are doing and why. For example, if you had originally left a summary "adding list of place names to help populate category" (as King of the NE) and then "removing list, looks ugly, need to reformat" or something, it would have looked more like a productive edit and less like vandalism, and might have even given a clue that the same user was still working on the category. At the very least, an informative edit summary would have made the change look less like page blank vandalism. I have added an infobox below about the edit summaries, please use them in the future and it may help avoid future problems like this. Hope this helps in the future. Thatcher131 12:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Praise[edit]

All hail his majesty, King of the North East! And equal hail to his wife, the not-quite-so-interested Queen.

I've read through more of your contributions, and I am very impressed. You've added quite a lot of good information, filling in the gaps: these are small articles, but no less valid and useful for that. I've done some minor touchups to a few of them (punctuation, spelling).

I'd like to repeat my apologies for getting you caught up in the anti-vandal skirmishes; as you surmised, they are indeed constant. Remember, edit summaries help us figure out what you're doing.

Keep up the good work, eh? DS 13:00, 13 July 2006

Flickr[edit]

Hey there. Those photos you uploaded, the ones that you tagged as coming from Flickr? There may be a problem with their copyrights. Not everything on Flickr is released under Creative Commons... and even if those two are free under CC, we need to know the exact URLs of where you got them from.

Thanks. DS 23:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Throughbred racing project[edit]

A number of Wikipedians have come together and formed the WikiProject Throughbred racing to help to expand and better organise information in articles and categories related to the sport of thoroughbred racing. As a past contributor to horse racing articles, we invite you to consider becoming a participant in the project, and/or adding the page to your watchlist so that you become aware, and can join any future horse racing discussions, which may be of interest to you. Argentine Geography[edit]

  • Great work on adding info on Buenos Aires partidos. I started most of them but they needed filling. Practically all the other districts of Argentina are not really covered. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 21:29, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Cheers for the compliment, its good to know that my hobby is appreciated by someone.I'm debating which province to do when I've finally finished with BsAs, probably Córdoba, Mendoza or Santa Fe.King of the North East 21:36, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi mate have a look at General Alvear Department. I thought this was in Mendzova province or whatever it is called not Buenos Aires. You have very capably completed all of the partidos but you have forgotten to delete the navigation box and the category. Mendova province should have a navigation box of its own if not it can be easily created. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 16:01, 8 November 2006 (UTC) I have solved it for you and put in the correct box. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 16:04, 8 November 2006 (UTC) Good luck[reply]
    • Cheers for pointing out the mistake and fixing it, as you can see I had created the nav box and cat, just forgot to change them. I tend to edit in stages as my computer has a nasty habit of crashing (normally 3 or 4 times a day) and destroying all my unsaved work.

Hail, King! Great job with the partidos. I see you're attacking other provinces; By the way, only Buenos Aires has PArtidos, the provinces have Departamentos. Probably Córdoba Province and Santa Fe Province are the most importnat after Buenos Aires, I suggest you start there. From there on, you can follow down the population size of the provinces: Mendoza Province, Tucumán Province, Entre Ríos Province, Salta Province, Chaco Province, Misiones Province, etc. Take care, and keep up the tireless work! Mariano(t/c) 08:43, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, I was thinking about doing Cordoba, but it has 428 Departamentos, many of them with insignificant populations (below 200), Santa Fe has 363 Depts. So I'm doing Mendoza which has a population of 1.5m, spread between 18 Depts. As for Cordoba and Santa Fe, I'll get round to doing the Nav Boxes, and I'll do the Depts with more than 2,500 or something.

King of the North East 09:47, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again on General Alvear, Besides General Alvear Department, Mendoza, there is a General Alvear Department, Corrientes in Corrientes Province, and the General Alvear Partido in Buenos Aires Province. The head cities in those are General Alvear, Mendoza, Alvear, Corrientes, and General Alvear, Buenos Aires. Check Departments of Argentina for a list of duplicate departments' names. Mariano(t/c) 09:21, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problemo. Just in case: moving to a name that already (say, as a redirect) exists should be done by first deleting the target article, and then moving the article to that title. But to delete articles you need to be an Administrator, so if you find yourself in such situation, just contact me, or even ask me to do the moving for you. Good wiking, Mariano(t/c) 09:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reversions[edit]

Hey, good to hear from you again. As for reverting vandalism - there's three ways to do to it. The speedy way, "rollback", is indeed only accessible to administrators. However, ordinary users are able to revert vandalism by just editing it out: you can either edit it out manually, or go into the article history, select the last unvandalised version, and save that one as the new version. That will trigger a warning message asking you if you really mean to do that - but that is what you mean to do. Got it?

(As for the Matthew Murray article, when I looked at it to see what the problem was, I fixed it for you.) DS 23:31, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think Ill just edit it out next time I spot any as to avoid breaking the continuity of the article history, bit I'm still afraid of incurring the wrath of some lunatic. Take care, King of the North East 23:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Enzo Nicolas Peréz[edit]

Was your latest Argentine footballer born in 1986 or 1979? Ernst Stavro Blofeld 10:27, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Goal.com and BDFA claim 22/02/1986 as his D.O.B. Why do you ask? Is there another source claiming 1979?

King of the North East 10:37, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • Oh,I see, My mistake,I fixed it ;)

Re:Argentine footballers[edit]

It does sound like a good idea, but there are some very susceptible people here that don't like that kind of superfluous categories. I suggest you propose it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football's talk page. I also suggest you to propouse the alternative of articles, such as List of Argentine football (soccer) players who played in Italian first division, List of Argentine footballers in La Liga, or watherver the title would be; you might be luckier with those than with the categories. Mariano(t/c) 11:03, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about your proposal. Nevertheless, List of Argentine footballers aborad looks good enough, right? About the vandal; get use to reverting vandalism. I'm not currently wiking very often (moving back to Argentina), but if I get the user with dirty hand, I will block him for a few days; he has been already warned. Take care, Mariano(t/c) 12:31, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening. Per the discussion about privacy concerns expressed at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of birthdays, date of birth should generally not be added to the biographies of living non-public or semi-public figures. So far, that policy has been interpreted fairly strictly with a pretty high bar being set for the definition of "public figures" who are assumed to have given up their rights to privacy.

By the same token, we should not be adding Category:Date of birth missing to articles unless we have made the case that the person meets the "public figures" threshold. Otherwise, we're just baiting new users into adding content even though the community has already said that we shouldn't include that particular data point. Category:Year of birth missing is okay but the exact date is often not. Thanks for your help. Rossami (talk) 23:36, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ortiz without the accent[edit]

Could you change the footballer's name to Fernando Ortiz, without the accent? Thnks. elpincha 22:51, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was fast! Thank you! (The rule... when "iz" is the last syllable and is accented, the accent is not written, e.g. Ortiz, as opposed to "ís" as in Solís... the only consonants taking accents in this situation are S and N, with maybe a very small number of exceptions meant to disambiguate... when the accent falls in the next-to-last syllable, the rule is reverted) elpincha 13:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Enormously!!!! grateful someone else from Wikiproject Argentina has added a film!!! Things are going super now see Category:Argentine films!! Remember to put the film and wikiproject argentina tag in the talk page though. That article is on spanish wikipedia too I think

goes at the bottom of all cinema articles. Excellent stub too! Ernst Stavro Blofeld 20:19, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fee free to loosely join the sub project Wikipedia:WikiProject Argentina/Cinema of Argentina I recently set up. What do you think of it? Ernst Stavro Blofeld 20:21, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think you're doing a great job, I wish I could do more to help, but Argentine films are particularly difficult to find in the UK. Most of the ones I have seen already have articles, I wouldnt really feel comfortable writing about films I havnt seen, but I am endeavouring to watch more.

Beleive me I appeciate any new films that anybody starts from Argentina!!!! I remember working with you on those partidos before and know you always do a superb job on wikipedia. I am currently compiling the entire Cinema chronolgy of Argentina see List of Argentine films which is going well and have started key actors and direcotrs such as Roberto Escalada Hugo del Carril etc. I saw a shameful gap in knowledge in this area so am doing something about it!!! A-Z of missing films click here and you will see how much is missing! Ernst Stavro Blofeld 20:43, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember though to add an external link or source e.g for your doctor and please add the project tags in the talk pages. Thanks Ernst Stavro Blofeld 21:41, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Avellaneda[edit]

Have you seen this: [1]-[2]? I think the merge should be rolled back. --Mariano(t/c) 15:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yeah I saw it, I was going to ask you about it after I finished work, which I have now. I think there is a clear ditinction between Avellaneda and Avellaneda Partido, I also think deleting my admittedly limited stub on Sarandí and replacing it with a redirect to Avellaneda was uncalled for. I mean Sarandi has a population of 60,000 how can it not merit an article in its own right.
  • I accept that the Avellaneda and Sarandi stubs were limited, but that is why they were stubs, so they could be expanded later. Turning them into redirects reduces the probability that they would ever be expanded.
  • If you roll them back you will have my full support.
Should we take it to talk:Avellaneda not to make the mistake of not asking before acting? I'll do it.--Mariano(t/c) 19:43, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Personally I would restore the articles, since they were removed without consultation, and then request that any future changes be discussed first. I believe that it is Wikipedia policy to propose substantial changes before making them, not simply to defend them afterwards. Replacing a page with a redirect is about as substantial as you can get without deleting the article completely.King of the North East 19:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking...[edit]

License tagging for Image:Juventud Unida Logo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Juventud Unida Logo.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:09, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Re:Dodgy players[edit]

I found very little on the players.

Buzzi seams to be part of the first team, but I only got an August 2006 article that says he signed for Leida for 2 years, and that the coach was giving him minutes during the pre-season ([3] in Catalan), and then a February 2007 article that says he was loaned from Leida to L'Hospi, in which team he is not a fix starter [no es titular indiscutible] ([4] in Spanish). Can that be considered to mean that he did at least once play in the first team?

Falco is from River (not Argentinos as in the article), and did not debute in Argentina. For Lleida, he signed at the beggining of the year, and was intended to be loaned to a third division team to shape him up. ([5] in Spanish)

They hold little importance in any case; see yourself if they can be proposed for deletion or not (I personally don't consider such players as Encyclopedia material anyway). You could also contact the original author (User talk:Scaufape; though [s]he doesn't seam to connect that often.

BTW, you're doing a really wonderful job.
