Thank you. I'm afraid the information I've given represents all that I reliably know about the award at the moment. The award is international in character as the recipients I've listed work or worked in the movement in variety of countries, but I don't know who is currently the awarding body. Hi. I need a GG/GS expert and hope you can help. We've long wanted to get the Boy Scout and GG/GS articles structured the same. I've started on this. See the Project talk page. I've made a start by moving the UK specific material from the talk page, as you can see. It's going to take a while to get the information into appropriate sections and fill in some of the more glaring gaps, particularly as I just said I'd put up some articles about Girlguiding UK's regions, but I'm on the case, even if it's slow! A subproject is simply a project that falls under the parent project, like if you had a trains project and Brit trains subproject. The subproject could have its own templates and everything. A taskforce is a group of people on a project who share a common interest in a certain area; like on the MILHIST project they have a WWI taskforce, WWII taskforce, etc. They have special captions on the project tag too. This is a short description of them. Hope it helps. Darthgriz98 may be correct in that there are not enough females in the project to support a subproject--the maintenance on a project is fairly high--for us, I do the vast majority of it. I think that if you are interested in one of these two options, the taskforce would be a better way to go. The taskforce would keep the bonds of "every scout/guide/rover are all part of the same movement" stronger too, I feel. Just my opinion.Rlevse 17:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that, and I also want to thank you for your edits and contributions. I have so wanted to see the feminine side of the project flourish, and if you check my edits about six months ago, I was begging anyone who even mentioned that they had been involved to please help add info, for instance the section in each US state article, to little success. Thank you, and you really need not apologize. I am a scholar of the rebirth of the movement in postSoviet countries, and have observed that the girls are more robust and sincere about it than their boy counterparts, even in mixed organizations. In Slovakia, for instance, they used to have to make every badge they earned as part of their program. The girls had these beautiful complete uniforms, proud of the badges they sewed themselves, and the guys were empty. The young ladies were living into the vision, and if my own nation's program has forgotten what that vision is, it is not reflected in the programs of the rest of the world. I know not to judge all by what happens here, and I have seen true Guiding and Scouting in action better than I could have done at that age. Out in the real world "Girl Scout" is not just a modifier before "cookies". I wish I could provide more info on each of the smaller organizations, and I hope I in turn did not upset that I stuck the stub information into the boy articles to have a chance to grow before they split off. Olave B-P has never stopped being World Chief Guide despite being, as you said, dead. There's never been another. Just like B-P being World Chief Scout. Hi! Sorry I've been away and haven't had an opportunity to reply. Whether Girls' Guildry is covered by the Scouting Wikiproject or not is a bit of a vexed question! The Scouting Wikiproject definitions say yes, but Girls' Guildry became the Girls' Brigade in the '60s, and recent editors on the Girls' Brigade page have not wanted the article to carry the Scouting Wikiproject tags. Now you have given me this information about the 'Nancy' series, I'm going to mention it on DFB's page and put all the Scouting tags on her page. If anyone really objects, they can be taken off. No prob - I could see you were on a wikibreak so put your page on watch until you came back (also lifted the code to be able to put myself on a break aome time in the summer - thanks!). Nancy is actually in GG and rises through such ranks as there are (I'm afraid I don't possess the books in this series & can't check the terminology, but have read them a while ago and so this is from memory). In the Dimsie books one of the original girls in the 'Anti-Soppists League' founds a GG group in the village near 'Jane's' - the school that is the main setting for the earlier books in the series - and the younger girls in the school think of schemes to help the Guildry group buy a piano. It's not foolproof, but I haven't received any complaints. I don't feel there's much I can add to what's already there. I wish all the World Centre articles were really good. They're such important places and something common to every Guide and Girl Scout. If only every one had an article as good as the Our Chalet article! You did an excellent job back in late 2006/early 2007 giving it a quality start. If you can think of something specific that I can do to improve the article, then please do suggest it. Britannia Park (Girl Guides Victoria)[edit]

I find it difficult to see that this campsite is notable enough for its own article. Articles on Gilwell Park, Victoria and Mafeking Rover Park were both merged back into Scouting in Victoria, although the latter is currently in Rovering in Victoria. Mafeking Rover Park in particular could be noticed independently of Scouting through Motorsport, although I'm not sure we have those references. However, if we can expand Scouting in Victoria as Scouting and Guiding in Victoria, as you have supported, maybe we could merge the material there. It's my intention to add some more to the Britannia Park article. However, I admit that notability could be a problem and that merging into Scouting and Guiding in Victoria would be a good solution if general opinion was against keeping the article. Regarding Australian Guiding articles is general, I am hoping to commit some time to them in early May. I am now not supportive of a merger, for the reasons you mention. However, if someone got tough about independent sources as a criterion for notability, we could struggle. There's only one independent source at the moment. When I started the article I though more sources about the park would become available in the forseeable future because of the Australian Centenary Event next year. This event has now been moved to another place, so my hope is no longer likely to be fulfilled. Realistically, I think notability probably won't be challenged as there is more than one source for the article, numerous references and a reasonable amount of material. Girl Guide photo[edit]

I've made comparisons with other photos from that period and done a bit of reading and this is what I can say about the picture. Are the girls British? Probably. The uniforms look like British uniforms, but I don't know what girls from other Commonwealth countries looked like and they may have been similar. The magazine that this picture came from was for international distribution, so there is no pressing need for them to be from Britain. Proceeding on the assumption that they are British, I can then make some other comments. The girls' blouses were blue. Every girl at this period wore a lanyard, regardless of position. This was to change in the next few years and in the 1920s (until the mid-1960s) they were only worn by Patrol Leaders and Patrol Seconds. The stars sewn of the left breast pocket indicated how many years a girl had been a Guide. The circular badge above the left pocket is the patrol emblem. I cannot explain why all the girls in the photo don't have them. The girl slightly left of centre is wearing a haversack - that's what the broad strips of fabric coming over her shoulders are. It's not clear to me whether these girls are wearing ties or neckerchiefs. On the whole I'm tending towards the former, which would have been yellow. I can't track down any really helpful sources on this aspect of the picture. The most striking part of the photograph, and the thing I noticed as soon as I saw it, is the lack of hats. Hats, along with staves, haversacks and lanyards were important to the earliest girls involved in Scouting, as a part of authentic Scouting. When Guiding was established it kept these elements, but their presence gradually diminished. Pictures of Guides from this period usually include hats - large ones. Finally, in this period, Rangers were just starting, and their uniform was very similar. It's possible that these girls are Rangers - I won't be able to tell.
Given the uncertainties I have expressed, I'm not sure how much of this information should be transfered to the Portal. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to deal with the matter any further today. I will put something on the portal when I next get a chance, or if you want something quicker, you are at liberty to extract some comments from what I've written here and I will review it when I'm next logged in. Good work, Chris. I am coming in here because the two of you may want to comment. I suggest that some of these should be merged. For example, Saint Helena branch of Girlguiding UK could be merged into Scouting and Guiding on Saint Helena and Ascension Island and Turks and Caicos Islands branch of Girlguiding UK could be merged into Scouting and Guiding in the Turks and Caicos Islands. There are no separate Scouting articles. These Scouting and Guiding groups are small. One article for everything S & G on the Islands would suffice with likely never a need to fork anything out. Name missed from list of recipients of silver fish award[edit]

Rotha Lintorn-Orman was awarded the Silver fish at the same time as Nesta Maude; they were in fact the first two girls to achieve the distinction.

In Guiding archives there is a photo taken to commemorate the awards of the two girls standing proudly either side of their Guide Captain Mrs Blanch Lintorn-Orman who was Rotha's mother.

Though I personally like Wikipe-tan, I am egalitarian and do not want to chase off the editors we have in GGGS taskforce.
