Glass Of Water[edit]

I fully support your proposal to delete the article. I wondered how long the article would stay up before a delete proposal appeared; 15 minutes is quite good - you are on the ball.

I posted the article only to make a point. There are way too many articles about sandwiches; "Cheese Sandwich" is a particularly egregious example. Why is there no article about "Roast Beef Sandwich with Horseradish Sauce"? Or "Egg and Cress Sandwich"? Or "Cucumber and Cream-cheese Sandwich"?

"Submarine Sandwich" also needs deleting. Just look at all the argumentation about which specific joint in New York/Detroit was responsible for the invention of the Hot Dog, or the Hot Pastrami on Rye.

Dammit, they sell a "New York Deli Sandwich" in the supermarket around the corner from here; it's cold, it's never been anywhere near New York, the sauce is not Reuben sauce, and the rye bread is flabby - I don't think there's much rye in it.

We need a sandwich patrol!

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [1]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Hello, I apologise if I did something wrong in trying to clean up the page about John Rentoul. The recently added content which I attempted to remove was added in the course of an argument on Twitter, which Rentoul has now clarified was the result of a misunderstanding, though this as obvious at any rate, and I believed the content to have been added maliciously or at the very least without due regard for the facts. However, can I draw your attention to the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol #Triage:

Care should be exercised when reviewing very new pages. Tagging anything other than attack pages, copyvios, vandalism or complete nonsense only a few minutes after creation may stop the creation of a good faith article and drive away a new contributor.

You reviewed Sanja Fidler within a minute of the page being created and failed to notice that by the time you applied the WP:A3 tag, the article was 4,839 bytes in size. A new editor participating in an editathon had worked up the article in her sandbox and copied it into an empty mainspace page that had been created by a fellow participant who was confirmed.

No harm done, as it turned out, but I suggest that it's always worth giving new articles the benefit of ten minutes grace or so, before tagging or taking action when the article doesn't fall into one of the categories mentioned in the above guidance. Doubt about some inline citations sources for Otoko Ippiki draft[edit]

Hello. Thanks for your review of the Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho draft.

Following your comment, I've added some inline citations that verify what's written in the draft. The main problem for one of them, is that is coming from a book published in France, I wanted to ask if that can be a problem. Other source is a video that is in japanese. In both cases, they are valid sources for what's written in the text, but since it can be difficult to verify these sources (mainly the book since it requires to be bought to access to the information), I wanted to ask if these sources are good.

@Forestresener: While that may be true, 4 sources in general is a peasly amount - typically accepted stub articles about living people have at least 8 inline citations. Additionally there's some info that seems to be missing (i.e. her recieving the White House Champion of Change award in 2013 only being mentioned in a caption, when that should be mentioned in the main text as it should be sourced and would provide further proof of notability). There is no mention of her early life either, which Wikipedia biographies typically have a section on. If you could add those things, I'm sure the next time you submit you should have an accepted article.
Also, per your conflict of interest (as you disclose on your userpage), also make sure the article is neutral and does not have a promotional tone. If you're getting paid to write this article, it is additionally required that you disclose such information on your talkpage per WP:Paid editing disclosure. I saw the note you left on my talk page — thank you for the information! I modeled the page you marked for speedy deletion very similarly to other companies like SmileML (Visual.ly, Affectiva, iDreamBooks, etc.). Since you left the note on my page, I've combed through the SmileML page again and removed content that could have been seen as promotional. My intent of making the page truly wasn't for promotional reasons! I'm new to Wikipedia and did put a lot of effort into it and my intent was not malicious in any way.

Would you be willing to look over the changes I've made and let me know if you feel my page still appears promotional? And if so, would you be willing to give me pointers for how I could improve it?

Also WP:CITE, which you refer to, provides that: "Editors should not attempt to change an article's established citation style merely on the grounds of personal preference, to make it match other articles, or without first seeking consensus for the change. The arbitration committee ruled in 2006:

Wikipedia does not mandate styles in many different areas; these include (but are not limited to) American vs. British spelling, date formats, and citation style. Where Wikipedia does not mandate a specific style, editors should not attempt to convert Wikipedia to their own preferred style, nor should they edit articles for the sole purpose of converting them to their preferred style, or removing examples of, or references to, styles which they dislike.

As with spelling differences, it is normal practice to defer to the style used by the first major contributor or adopted by the consensus of editors already working on the page, unless a change in consensus has been achieved. If the article you are editing is already using a particular citation style, you should follow it; if you believe it is inappropriate for the needs of the article, seek consensus for a change on the talk page. If you are the first contributor to add citations to an article, you may choose whichever style you think best for the article."

Actually, there is a reason for using inline parenthetical referencing in this sort of article. It allows the reader to evaluate the referenced material based on their knowledge of the authorities cited, in this case de Groot and Eberhard. I hope you are familiar with them?
So, here are my view on these tags, if you would care to consider them. I still think it's a bit harsh to come down so strongly on a referenced stub article, Especially since according to Wikipedia:Stub, stub articles do not even require any referencing at all. It real discourages rather than encourages article development. If the tag is directed to me, its is not useful: I already know how to write articles, I just haven't had time to develop this one further (obviously) I decided to start the article as a stub in case others which to contribute. If this tag is directed to these potential others, they will likely know about reference citations as well, and add them to the article as a routine part of any expansion. I really see these tags in the case of an article such as this (somewhat academic and specialized) as unhelpful (and if employed, they should be on the Talk page, not main article space). These tags may be useful in articles on more popular areas, or to warn (scare?) readers in the event of poorly researched of inaccurate articles. This is not one of them (and also why I prefer the Social Science in line reference citation style for these kind of articles). Anyway, this is my opinion on this matter. I am not the only one who thinks this way, but I realize that adding these tags, even to new articles currently under development or to new stubs seems to have somehow become some sort of unquestioned routine, just in the last few years. anyway, those are my thoughts, and I think I speak for some other editors working in this area as well. So thank you for your time, and please think about it.

Hi Kirbanzo - I just noticed on my watchlist that you sockpuppet/sockmaster tagged Alex Devens and Wolfssalt; but the last info I saw after I blocked Alex Devens was the checkuser Ponyo saying at User_talk:Alex Devens#April 2020 that Wolfssalt wasn't a sockpuppet of Alex Devens, and was rather some other miscreant pretending to be him. Can you please reconsider your decision, or can you explain why the news coverage concerning the subject is not considered notable?

@KingOfAlex: The reason why the coverage is not sufficient to prove notability is that, as I mentioned in my decline reason, those sources provide only passing mentions of the subject and do not give significant coverage (see the general notability guideline). Citing reliable, independent, secondary sources which provide significant coverage of the subject is how we establish notability and verifiability here on Wikipedia - especially for a biography of a living person such as this draft. Hi Kirbanzo!

I just received your feedback regarding my recent article submission (for Xena Workwear). I'd previously read through all of the known documentation regarding neutral tone as well as made sure that every sentence in the article was backed by a citation. I'd additionally combed through the section on "puffery" and made sure to avoid all of those terms.

Additionally, I used other footwear industry company Wikipedia pages as reference for proper tone and information presented:

I have reviewed the Wikipedia Manual of Style, and the article I have written seems to conform to these standards. I'm willing to improve it, so I am wondering, can you please be specific about what exactly in the article reads like an essay? The first part of the article defines a non-jurisdictional dam and points out (importantly and accurately) that definitions vary, according to state and country. The second part of the article summarises recent peer-reviewed literature about non-jurisdictional dams, almost all of which focuses on their safety, as you probably know, dam removal is an important topic currently, especially in the United States. Lhouette Draft page[edit]

Hi Kirbanzo,

How are you? Thanks for checking the draft page I submitted for Lhouette. The images that I submitted were taken by the WyeCliffe Gallery where Lhouette's pieces are sold from. I work with the Gallery and am trying to create a page for Lhouette (Ciaran Robinson). Any advice or help would be appreciated! I thought best to edit the page I submitted and then submit again? I'm new to this as I have only ever used Wiki to do Edits.

I just wanted to check in on the revert to the LGBT Rights in South Korea article. I just was wondering if you could elaborate on what wasn't constructive about it? I'm not super well verse on the rules for Wikipedia, but I never thought adding wikilinks where articles already exist is a problem? Dear Kirbanzo. Thank you very much for reviewing the newly created article "Robert Dillon, 2nd Earl Roscommon" and for creating the associated talk page where you rated it Start-Class. I suppose it is accepted now. Obviously there is still a lot of work to be done on this article. I see you are a veteran editor, whereas I a still a novice on a seemingly endless learning curve with MOS and the dos and don'ts of Wikipedia. However, with all respect, I wonder about the move you did from "Robert Dillon, 2nd Earl of Roscommon" to "Robert Dillon, 2nd Earl Roscommon" citing "Consistency with other similar article titles" as the reason. The names of the articles for the 1st and the 3rd Earl of Roscommon do contain the "of" and so do many other articles about earls (Earl of Antrim, Earl of Abercorn, Earl of Arran ...). I did not find counter-examples on my watchlist. According to the pattern in my watchlist, it seems to depend on the title: earls with "of", but viscounts without (Viscount Boyne, Viscount Dillon, Viscount Muskerry ...). Please have a look and please undo your move if you agree. Otherwise, you should perhaps move all other articles on English, Scottish and Irish earls whose names contain the supposedly superfluous "of". Hi there. I have recently removed the WP:BLPPROD you placed at Yuyu-uta. At the time that you did so it had multiple citations. BLPPROD requires there be no citations (including things like external links). Also it is not considered good practice to tag an article for deletion 7 minutes after creation (unless it is something like an attack or COPYVIO).
