Tokyo Emmanuelle cinematographer

Hi Kmrt, and thanks for your attention to the Tokyo Emmanuelle article. You corrected the cinematographer from "Masahisa Himeda" to "Shinsaku Himeda". I know that there are sometimes multiple ways to read a Japanese name, but I got my reading from the allcinema listing. Is allcinema wrong? Do you have a source that shows "Shinsaku" is correct? • Hi Dekkappai :), Shinsaku IS correct, Masahisa is wrong. allcinema writes sometimes wrong. I sometimes send email to allcinema, and let them know to correct their articles. We have a lot of souces, like kotobank, imageforum.co.jp and also 姫田真佐久 in ja.wikipedia. Mr. Shinsaku Himeda is one of the greatest cinematographer, we Japanese cinephiles all love and respect him. Many thanks for that information, Kmrt! Yes, I realize these sources (like allcinema) can be wrong, and I suspected you were a native-speaker, so I suspected you were right. I'll look through the new Roman Porno articles I've been creating lately to see if the mistaken reading is included in them. I had a similar problem with Kan Mukai / Hiroshi Mukai... Hey, I see Japanese Wiki has an article on Kan Mukai now-- good work! There are several other articles I've started that do not have articles at Japanese Wiki yet-- Mamoru Watanabe, Tamaki Katori, the lovely Noriko Tatsumi, etc... Feel free to look through Template:Japanese erotic cinema, and to copy/translate any that you want. "Great and crazy?" Thanks, I'll take as a compliment :) Do you know anything about early pink eiga awards/magazines, Kmrt? This sort of thing is very valuable for starting and keeping articles at English Wiki. I have found the Pink Grand Prix, which has helped a lot with article creation for pink films and filmmakers beginning in 1994. But I know there was a magazine, "成人映画" that covered pink cinema and gave awards from 1965-1973. (I think they called the award the "Pink Ribbon".) Nikkatsu apparently gave in-house awards for its best Roman Porno films & personnel. There was a "ズームアップ映画祭" that gave awards between 1980 and 1994. I'd really like to find complete lists of these awards. They would make good articles themselves, and also give good information for new articles to start on important films & people in the genre. Of course, it is a compliment! "ズームアップ映画祭" was first held in 1980 for 1979 films, only I know about them. But when I get the lists, I will let you know. Since 1990s(?), there is the amateur magagine PG, they have a website and history page from 1960s. We do not have many documents on early pink eiga. Have you ever heard of the book "官能のプログラム・ピクチャー - ロマン・ポルノ1971-1982全映画" (ISBN 4845983478) ? It has a good list and documents in Japanese language. Buy the way, have you ever heard of 大和屋 竺(ja:大和屋竺), Atsushi Yamatoya? Noriko Tatsumi appears in his early work Dutch Wife in the Desert (1967) which is an excellent, great and crazy film. :) --Kmrt (talk) 18:52, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes! I have been planning to start an article about Atsushi Yamatoya for quite some time, but have not got around to it yet. I know he worked with the great Seijun Suzuki, and also in some Roman porno films. Also the Dutch Wife movie-- I know about it, but have not seen it yet, and have not found a poster for it. I would like to start the article some day... Yes, the PG is very valuable for info about newer pink films and also, of course, the yearly awards. I put together the List of Nikkatsu Roman Porno films from online sources like JMDB, and some English-language books. (I have a couple in Japanese-- ロマンポルノ女優, ISBN 4-309-48156-6, and 日活 ロマン ポルノ 全史 : 名作・名優・名監督たち, ISBN 4-062-10528-4, but neither has a list of the films.) I did a lot of work on the Japanese Wiki list a couple years ago--ja:日活ロマンポルノ作品一覧, and I am happy to see that Japanese editors have worked on it after I finished. I'll check the English list against the Japanese one for corrections eventually... For now I am starting articles on some of the individual Roman porno films... I hope you can find info on those awards. I have found only a few mentions about them around the Internet, but my Japanese language skills are not very good, so you might be more successful than I have been. Oh, you know about Mr. Yamatoya and his works more than I think. Dutch Wife in the Desert on DVD was released in Japan in 2002 but in no other country yet. You are so great to hear you made ja:日活ロマンポルノ作品一覧 in Japanese language! For now you need infos earlier than Roman Porno, I see. I think we have more hints in JMDB. I just find an info about an important document, "戦後インディペンデントフィルムとエロダクション黄金時代 (日本エロ映画年表2)" in the magazine Eiga Hiho, July 2007, but I do not have it. It is what you need. This issue includes interview with Teruo Yamoto(矢元照男) who created Kokuei (国映). --Kmrt (talk) 00:55, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Kmrt. Yes, I know there is a lot in print in Japanese, but so little is available online. It makes writing about these subjects more challenging :) You are reminding me of many other subjects I plan to write about-- the pink studios like Kokuei, Shintoho (not the old studio-- though the great Teruo Ishii's films, like the Line series... and some of Michiko Maeda's films fall into my area of interest :), O.P. Eiga... There is so much more to write about here at Wikipedia, I wonder why some editors spend their time only looking for things to delete :( (Oh-- I didn't make the Japanese list. It was there before I worked on it, and another editor has done a lot of work before and after me... I have the same feeling about deleters :( I will try to creat articles on Kokuei, Shintoho Pictures (not the old Shintoho), or the other studios in ja.wikipedia first. I have interests in program pictures and new waves in the world because they were/are the most creative and powerful in the history of the cinema. I think producers important as directors because they only can make the creators' dreams come true. Teruo Yamoto and Daisuke Asakura (朝倉大介) from Kokuei are important. "Daisuke Asakura" is once the workname for Kazuyuki Yamoto (矢元一行), the son of Teruo, who died in 1982, and then another person success the name. The 2nd "Daisuke Asakura" is a woman, Ms. Keiko Sato (佐藤啓子). Pink directors respectfully call her "Onee" (elder sister). I will try! --Kmrt (talk) 04:01, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I agree. In the U.S. we had the drive-in or grindhouse cinema until the 1970s... people like Russ Meyer (I was lucky enough to meet him several times at showings of his films), Herschell Gordon Lewis, etc. These were the areas for experimentation, and they made a big impact on the mainstream... current directors like David Lynch, the Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, etc... I'm also interested in how the exploitation cinema of the U.S. & Japan influenced each other in those days-- the '60s and '70s. Anyway, I'll try to put together articles on the Japanese studios also, and I'll ask you if I have any Japanese-language trouble. Very glad to meet you! Question

Hi, Kmrt. I'm working on Naomi Tani films today, and have a translation question on the name of a cast member of Lady Black Rose. The name is 古川哲唱. allcinema says "Tesshō Furukawa", but an English print source says "Tetsuaki Furukawa". Do you know which one is correct? Thanks! Dekkappai (talk) 15:22, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Lady Black Rose is 黒薔薇夫人, neh. His birthname and old act name was 古川義範 (Yoshinori Furukawa), and he changed his name to 古川哲唱. Tessho is better known than Tetsuaki. I think Tessho is better.--Kmrt (talk) 15:38, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Kmrt. Another question: I'm working on the film, 団鬼六　ＯＬ縄奴隷 (released, January 23, 1981). Some Japanese databases, such as allcinema show this title, but others do not. Instead they have 団鬼六　ＯＬ縄地獄, released the same day. (JCDb, JMDb, Kinejun). The English databases (IMDb, and CITW) both give the "OL dorei", but not the "OL jigoku" title... It looks to me like they are the same film (same director, same actress, same release date). Do you know if it's the same film with two titles? No databases have both titles... it's puzzling... Hi, Kmrt. Yes, I have a poster with that title also (http://www12.ocn.ne.jp/~nacky/yami/yami13pA1.jpg). So the "jigoku" title is just a mistake? oh, sorry but wait for upload... I'm off and in nouvelle caledonie, so I have no documents on paper or can not consult with friends working for Nikkatsu. there is a possibility 団鬼六　ＯＬ縄地獄 was titled when released on screen and 団鬼六 ＯＬ縄奴隷 is for videogrammes. Because data on kinejun are of when on screen. But of course there are mistakes. We need a original poster in 1981. No problem, Kmrt. I have already started the article at Office Lady Rope Slave, with redirects from "Office Lady Rope Hell", and mention it as a mistake in the article. If it turns out it's an alternate title, we can fix the article easily. I suspect that image I linked above is based on the original 1981 poster, but a crop of the top portion-- maybe it's a DVD cover... Here: http://umenichi.net8.jp/shop/html/2314.htm is what appears to be the full poster, but it's not a very good image. I thought about using that one instead-- the color is better, but it has folds and strong light-glare on the top... Thanks for the help, and I'll look forward to any more information you can find.   • but I cannot find Segami in this film at IMDb or Jmdb...
• Hatsuo Yamatani -> Hatsuo Yamaya (ja:山谷初男) [2]
• Taka Ôkubo (ja:大久保鷹) [3]
• Kohei Tsuzaki (津崎公平) [4]
• Akaji Maro (ja:麿赤兒) Sekiji Maro = Akaji Maro, better to convine 2 articles on IMDb.

Thanks for looking at it! I'm not sure about the "Seiji Segami" credit-- I see World Filmography lists "Seiji Nogami" in that role. I find this source to usually be accurate, except with several mistakes in the Romanization of Japanese names-- so this must be an error on my part. Do you think "Seiji Nogami" is correct? Spelling as Seigi Nogami（野上正義, Masayoshi Nogami）is correct, perhaps Masayoshi Nogami, too. People named Masayoshi (正義) are sometime called Seigi [seiɡi](International Phonetic Alphabet) in Japan. Seigi (正義) means justice. Best, --Kmrt (talk) 02:49, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia.
