Hatikvah

Hi, Laszlo,

I've seen your edit in Hatikvah article about the song "Tüzed, Uram Jézus". Do you have it in mp3? it would be very interesting to hear it. Anyway, the phrase about this song should be corrected somehow, because it's most unlikely that Shmuel Cohen would listen to Christian song directly (and Smetana's work, too, btw). Ok, it seems to be a good idea to change your website at first, and then the Wikipedia article. Some thoughts:

• I think that "Kunság mezein" means "on the plains of Cumania" (or "on the plains of Kunság" maybe, as there are other places in Central and Eastern Europe which are called Cumania in English), because - as I see it - "Kunság" clearly refers to the place, not the nomadic tribe (Cumans). ("The plains of the Kuns" would be "a kunok mezein" in Hungarian).
• I also think that "hő" means "hot". "Faithful" is "hű", and the word "hű" have existed in our language since the 13th century, and doesn't seem to have had other forms. (I have an etymological dictionary :) )
• Maybe "The Danube" should be used instead of "the Duna".
• There should be an English equivalent of "hajh".

Kunság is the name of the place. Period. Theoretically it could refer to the nomadic tribe, but for them we use the word kunok. Duna should be changed to Danube. Duna is the Hungarian name of the river. In English it is called Danube. Lelkesa 15:58, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

re: grammar on Irreducible complexity

I see your point now. I'm not sure how to fix it, though, since we are constrained by Behe's actual quote. He didn't say "applying to". We could fix it by not relying on the exact quote but that has been a controversial section and I'm reluctant to upset the compromise. We could fix it by changing the front of the sentence to "An "irreducibly complex system" was originally defined by Behe as..." but that also bends what was actually said.

I'm not sure how to proceed. Do you have a copy of Behe's text handy? Can we go straight to his usage and avoid putting our own interpretation on the matter? Thanks. Rossami (talk) 20:34, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Historical Jesus

You recently reverted one of my changes to the article on the Ebionites, but did not offer an edit summary. I think my summary explained the reason for my edit pretty clearly, but no argument was made against it. I see that a whole slew of edits have not been summarized or defended, some quite substantial (e.g., changing "c. 23" to "in 23"). Many of my edits were, in my mind, so minor that I didn't feel a need to add a summary. However, you are absolutely correct that they would be helpful and will try my best to always include them. EWTN edits

Help me out then, would you please? I freely admit to being a bit of a Wiki novice.

My motivation is not Anti-Catholic. I am Catholic and not a self-hating kind either. But if you watched it, “The World Over” is more biased, in terms of its guests, than the “700 Club”. Saying “generally” in this context is simply not accurate. I understand the importance of being neutral but not to the point that it is misleading.

If you can think of a way to phrase it better, please, please do.

Ok. I sort of understand what you are saying and I sort of agree with you.

I see where I might have made a mistake in my editing. I wasn’t trying to say the entire network is far right in all aspects. Taking all of it’s stances into account, as long as the SSPXII is around, EWTN isn’t far right theologically

My problem is that “The World Over” is so biased in it’s secular politics, using the word “generally” before the word “conservative” in the context of secular politics is misleading in my opinion. While I’m not Anti-Catholic or even Anti-EWTN, I could be called Anti-“The World Over”. EWTN’s place in Catholic media is overwhelming here in the US, which isn’t normally a bad thing. But “The World Over” won’t even have a Pro-Life Democratic politician on the program. As I said “The 700 Club” seems more bi-partisan as I think they interviewed Pro-Choice non-Catholic Obama! If it was an entity onto itself, I’d wager that the IRS would be after it. Consider EWTN’s influence, I think it sends a bad message to impressionable Catholics, as my Holy Mother Church transcends vulgar party politics.

Would the change from this: “The program is generally conservative in religious and political orientation” to “The program is conservative in its political orientation and generally conservative in its religious orientation” sound proper enough? If not, you can change it back and I promise I won’t touch it again.

I am aware of that other anon editor causing problems here, I am not him or her. I actually already talked to “CliffC”, just to say that I wasn’t the one causing all the problems. That anon editor is actually a very bizarre person, if you look at the changes they keep trying to put in, they could very easily be considered both Pro-EWTN and Anti-EWTN. New as I am, that makes no sense whatsoever.

Croatia wasn't a kingdom, it is only a croatian nationalistic nonsense. They claim is based on a writing, called Pacta Conventa. However, pacta conventa is a forgery. Magyarul írom, mert kissé fárasztó lenne ezt most szép angolsággal megfogalmazni ezen a fejfájós délelőttön: barokk kori címek esetében a publikált cím egy kényes dolog, többnyire nem azon híresül el, ami forma szerint a cím, ha van egyáltalán ilyen. A Szigeti veszedelem esetében azonban nem ez a helyzet. A voltaképpeni cím az Obsidio Szigetiana (lehet, hogy ezt kéne leginkább írni), ami a címalkotás nyelvi standardjai szerint vagy megkapja a szokványos Libri előtagot birtoknak, vagy az énekek számozását utótagnak: Obsidionis Szigetianae pars prima/secunda sat.

A Szigetiana az Obsidio jelzője (mellesleg szólván utána kéne nézni a helyesírásának, mert gyanús kissé az a kortárs 'sz'), az tehát az obsidióhoz igazodik. A birtokos esetnek semmi más indoka sincs a címben, csak az, ha szerkezetben áll a cím kiegészítő elemeivel, például: Wesselényi Miklós[nak az] Összes művei. Re:Croatian Literature

Hi Korossyl. Yes you are right, Opsida Sigecka was not as successful as Szigeti Veszedelem. "Opsada Sigeta" is correct (modern) name for "Siege of Sziget", and more official one. Northeast megalopolis gap

Hi Korossyl...I took a second look at the MSA map and I was incorrect in that Union is part of the Hartford MSA. That would be a pretty think connection to the Worcester MSA, though. That being said, the fact still remains that the NE corner of CT is not in a MSA so I'm wondering what your thoughts on just stating that the Quiet Corner is the only gap in corridor, which is what it is known for and one of the reasons why congress designated it a National Heritage Corridor. Howdy Dbroer! I have family connections to the Quiet Corner, and I think it's worth mentioning as it does appear as a "hole" in the map of the megalopolis. It's not, however, an actual gap, as it does not prevent the MSAs from being connected. Practically speaking, one travelling from NY to Boston does not leave the megalopolitan corridor, and (usually) has no reason to pass through the QC. I think I'd be more comfortable using some language like "bypassing the Quiet Corner." What do you think? Korossyl (talk) 19:28, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

I see that you are a major contributor to the wiki article on the Earle Family. Thank you so much for setting up this article. I am a member of this family, descended from Ralph Earle the settler of Rhode Island. I am also a wiki author. I added a bit of structure to the article and organized the listings of Earle Family members by century.

I see that the names listed here:

• George Howard Earle IV (Navy Pilot)
• Mary Sharpless Earle
• Elisabeth Hotchkiss Ely Shedd
• George Howard Earle V (Civil Engineer)
• George Howard Earle VI (Man About Town)

That do not have citations or Wiki articles. Do you know these people? Are they still living? If so, could you add their bios as articles to Wikipedia and cite those articles? Or if that is not possible, perhaps provide a citation that shows their genealogical connection to the Earle Family. For example, if there is a published book that lists their name and lineage, or a genealogical society that documents lineage who has verified the genealogy. Or if they are listed in Pliny's book, give the page number (since there are 4,000 names in that book). I don't mind helping with this, but, since I don't even know what century these individuals were born, it is difficult for me to add the information about them.

Also, there is no citation or wiki listing for

• Ralph Earle (captain) (I believe there has been more than one over the years) and
• James Earle (painter).

It would be great to have, at the very minimum, the date of birth and death and the citation to page number in Pliny's book.

Disambiguation ("dab") pages aren't articles, but are navigation aids. They shouldn't include significant amounts of information beyond what it necessary for that- this belongs in the article itself.

You're right; it's an old edit- I wouldn't normally bother, so I'm guessing I either didn't notice its age or thought the advice might still have been useful.

No worries about not finding the info back then; I often find it hard to find policy stuff myself.

The guidelines I mentioned above- i.e. those at WP:DABNOT, a shortcut to "What not to include"- should explain it clearly enough. Put simply, dab pages are navigational aids, not articles- we want to keep them as short and clear as possible. Anything unnecessary that bloats them out and makes them longer to get through is counter-productive.

Era changes where BCE is the established style

I see you've changed BCE to BCE 6 times quoting WP:ERA. Four of those I'd agree with you, but at Göbekli Tepe BCE has been used for almost 6 years, making it the established style. It's a pretty heavily edited article and people have had a chance to revert it before but haven't.
