Technical news

  • Editors using the mobile website on Wikipedia can opt-in to new advanced features via your settings page. This will give access to more interface links, special pages, and tools.
  • The advanced version of the edit review pages (recent changes, watchlist, and related changes) now includes two new filters. These filters are for "All contents" and "All discussions". They will filter the view to just those namespaces.

Comment

Regarding if the community is okay with this behavior from an administrator, and Fram wants the mop back, by all means, go ahead and give it to them. there are two things. It’s not kind to tell somebody to go beat their head against a wall. You, I and all your talk page watchers know that ArbCom removing administrator status is neigh well permanent. Fram wasn’t allowed to speak in his own defense during the case, except from afar where most watchers didn’t see his remarks. The well has been thoroughly poisoned against him. Additionally, I would really like the decision to include some representative links and diffs showing this behavior. I know it’s been a long slog, but please don’t concede to what’s expedient at the expense of what’s fair. Jehochman Talk 12:49, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Milhist coordinator election voting has commenced

G'day everyone, voting for the 2019 Wikiproject Military history coordinator tranche is now open. This is a simple approval vote; only "support" votes should be made. Project members should vote for any candidates they support by 23:59 (UTC) on 28 September 2018. Thanks, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 03:37, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Poland PD

Since you were the last arbitrator to !vote at the PD, after most of the (alleged) factual errors in the PD have been pointed out by multiple involved and un-involved parties, I expect that you gone through them. Do you feel that they are too merit-less to deserve any response, as such? WBGconverse 08:33, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

I've voted and don't anticipate changing my position, but we're still discussing it. Also, you need to move all your comments under one section, the first one you started, before the clerks do it for you. You don't get two sections. Katietalk 17:28, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
Surely that's quite important and I apologize for having made two sections. Thanks, WBGconverse 18:57, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

So sorry to see you are not at 100%

Wishes for a speedy recovery
I just saw your notice - I am so sorry to see that you are ill, and hope for a quick and happy outcome. I was ill myself a few years ago, and hope this message comforts you now, just as the many kind messages I received then comforted and cheered me. KillerChihuahua 00:43, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
@KillerChihuahua: Thanks! It's mainly migraines now; we were worried about MS for a while but it looks like that's not the case. Headaches and the accompanying brain fog are the things right now that keep me from doing more than I want to do. It seems to take twice as long to put together my thoughts, which makes me slow to respond to people sometimes. It's better than it was a year ago, so that's progress, and I'm heading back to Kansas City next week for another neurology checkup. (If anybody lives in the Midwest, the University of Kansas Medical System is outstanding.) I appreciate your kind thoughts – welcome back! You were missed! Katietalk 14:05, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
You are too kind. :-)
I am so pleased to hear things are getting better for you, albeit slowly. Hopefully you've turned the corner. I know what you mean about the brain fog, so frustrating! to have a half-thought you have to drag through your brain like dragging a heavy weight through molasses, as you try to hold on to the first part while working your way through the second part, only to find that you've lost your way somewhere and have to start over! dreadful. You have my most heartfelt sympathies. I've been there. KillerChihuahua 23:17, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election half-way mark

G'day everyone, the voting for the XIX Coordinator Tranche is at the halfway mark. The candidates have answered various questions, and you can check them out to see why they are running and decide whether you support them. Project members should vote for any candidates they support by 23:59 (UTC) on 28 September 2018. Thanks, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 07:36, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2019).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion, a new criterion for speedy category renaming was added: C2F: One eponymous article, which applies if the category contains only an eponymous article or media file, provided that the category has not otherwise been emptied shortly before the nomination. The default outcome is an upmerge to the parent categories.

Technical news

  • As previously noted, tighter password requirements for Administrators were put in place last year. Wikipedia should now alert you if your password is less than 10 characters long and thus too short.

Miscellaneous

  • The Community Tech team has been working on a system for temporarily watching pages, and welcomes feedback.

A survey to improve the community consultation outreach process

Hello!

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking to improve the community consultation outreach process for Foundation policies, and we are interested in why you didn't participate in a recent consultation that followed a community discussion you’ve been part of.

Please fill out this short survey to help us improve our community consultation process for the future. It should only take about three minutes.

The privacy policy for this survey is here. This survey is a one-off request from us related to this unique topic.

Thank you for your participation, Kbrown (WMF) 10:44, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi,

Your name was given to me by User SHOY as someone who can help me retrieve content to re-load a draft I made. It was removed because I didn't use citations or declare a conflict of interest. I have since made the declaration and would like to get my draft back to add citations so it can be reviewed (rather than re-writing from scratch). Can you please copy the content from my Enviroschools Wikipedia to my user page, so I can then cite it and have it reviewed? I am not exactly sure what info you will need, but the content I require was on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Enviroschools&redirect=no (although it is not visible to me - hopefully you have access?)

Here is a record of my user contributions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/LambertonLisa

Please let me know if I am not doing this process correctly, thank you so much for your time! Lisa LambertonLisa (talk) 19:00, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

@LambertonLisa: You can see the past revisions of any page by clicking the ' view history' tab. In this case, your content is still visible here. Don't put it on your user page. If you do, your user page may be deleted. Instead, use your sandbox. Hope that helps. Katietalk 20:06, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

EC

What he did wrong (most likely out of frustration after being repeatedly targeted in a most uncivil way) does not cancel all the good he did. Both infamy and accomplishment exist. I know humans use attribute substitution to make a messy world easier to understand. Please consider I favor tolerating more ambiguity and ambivalence and maybe considering that people can’t always be classified neatly as “good” or “evil”. Jehochman Talk 10:54, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

@Jehochman: You think I'm intolerant because I don't want a shrine on my talk page? That's on you, not on me. And I challenge you to find a place anywhere in my 30K edits where I've classified this editor or any editor as good or evil. I don't think of people that way, I'm insulted, and I don't need that stuff today. Take your taunting somewhere else. Katietalk 12:52, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
Wow you have misunderstood me completely and made lots of assumptions of bad faith. We need more tolerance on Wikipedia not hostility like what you just displayed. Jehochman Talk 16:51, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
Again, you're the one who came here uninvited and said I should consider not classifying people as good or evil. I haven't. I simply removed a long list of articles with some accompanying sarcasm placed here by someone else who came here uninvited to accuse me of suppressing this gallant misunderstood editor's something or other, which I also haven't done. I didn't want the vitriol on my talk page. I don't like blaming other people for my actions and I don't like those who blame other people for theirs, or who make excuses for others on their behalf. The only person responsible for EC's repeated socking is EC. That's just a fact statement. I don't know if he's good, bad, an alien, a saint, a muskrat, eats kale and likes it, or what. I don't know the guy. I didn't say anything else. Stop reading into it. I'm disengaging now, and I suggest you do the same with the whole issue. Katietalk 17:49, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

Sorry to hear of your injury. Best wishes! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:29, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, Gerda. I slipped on some ice and tore a big chunk out of my left knee, and I'm pretty sure I broke my right ankle. Waiting for X-rays now. Hurts like the devil. I think I'll take tomorrow off. Katietalk 23:11, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
Sounds terrible. Would hold hands if I could ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:18, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
Oh noes. Ankle injuries are the worst. Ok maybe not the worst but not fun. Feel better/hope they give you the good drugs. Beeblebrox (talk) 07:56, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
  • Sorry to hear this also. This is one good thing about living in miserable England, we get a lot of rain, but not much snow. Or at least we keep it in the hills! Get better soon WormTT(talk) 09:44, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, all. I got stitches in my knee and my ankle has a severe sprain, not broken. Walking boot for four weeks, but I'm not going to do much walking for a little while. I vote that we outlaw curbs. See you all in a couple of days. :-) Katietalk 14:33, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
Wishing you the best, Katie! That sounds painful :(. @Worm That Turned: that sounds wonderful to me - though I do miss snow. --TheSandDoctor Talk 17:39, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Seconded on the curbs. Curbs are clearly stupid. Um...it's the right time of year to get lots of knitting done? :) --valereee (talk) 18:26, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
I'm glad to hear that it wasn't more serious KK. Now I am wondering if Wikipedia has an article about how curbs get higher and more dangerous as the body ages. I know that has happened to me :-) I hope the healing progresses apace. MarnetteD|Talk 22:12, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
Being in Atlantic Canada I'm all too familiar with ice-fall injuries (both falling because of ice, and ice falling on you). I vote if we are to continue using curbs we at least make them a different colour from snow. Heal fast and get well soon! Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:07, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
I could see making them different colors in Canada. Also labeling them in French and English. Katietalk 17:18, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
Did this take place in Boston? --Orange Mike | Talk 17:04, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
Yes, at my hotel right as I was leaving. On the flight home I had napkins taped to my knee with some of the tape they use in the galley carts. Tuesday was a boatload of fun. But it's getting better. I sprained this same ankle about four years ago, though not as severely, and it just takes time. The knee bothers me more than the ankle does right now. Katietalk 17:18, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

Protip: these are pretty great. They are so common here that many stores have a chair or two right inside the door with a sign reminding you to please remove them indoors. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:21, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, but they're ugly. This moon boot thing is a lovely navy and coordinates with any number of wardrobe options in my closet. Katietalk 17:51, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
Fair point. Must be a hell of a sprain, most I ever got for one was an inflatable cast that could be completely hidden by clothes. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:23, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:07, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
