Friendly Tip

Hey, I noticed you often reply to messages from others on your own talk page, rather than posting on their talk pages with the reply, the latter being the method preferred by most. For instance, say User A asks User B his name. User A posts the question on User B's talk page, to which User B replies with his name on User A's talk page, generally using the same title with an RE in front, such as

==RE:Your Name==

Re: Dragonlance pages

Yes, unluckily if you want to watch them you need to add them one at the time. There must be a javascript tool to add every item in a category, but I do not know where to find it. For now, you can go to Category:Dragonlance, open every article, and watch it, navigating every subcategory to continue finding articles. For an overall look of Dragonlance article status, you can check User:ReyBrujo/Base/Dragonlance, which will soon be moved into a WikiProject Dragonlance. -- ReyBrujo 02:05, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

I just happened to accidentally have been watching your talk page, and to make it a bit easier, my watch list for dragonlance items is available here, although it might not be complete, and it does have some dragonlance related disambiguation articles as well as redirect articles. Re: Nexus

You need to cite reliable sources. Primary sources (in example, the site itself) aren't trusted, so we need secondary sources (that is, reliable sources that have picked information from Nexus). There is no need to demonstrate it is a separated site, but that the site is important.

I noticed the article was sent to AFD. In order to maintain the article in Wikipedia, you need to certify the article passes web notability guidelines. The change from dl3e to dlnexus has impacted on its Alexa ranking, which is an old way to measure notability. -- ReyBrujo 02:07, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much! Although I was not sure it was the correct step at first, many others suggested me I could give Wikipedia a bit more of help by becoming an administrator, without being forced to stop contributing to Dragonlance articles or the small things I like doing. The Alien Sea

Have you read this book yet? If not, I'm just letting you know that it might be a good idea to read, since it contains many new insights and details into the lives of the Dimernesti and Dargonesti, also continuing the story of Apoletta, the sea elf who saved the Heroes of the Lance. I have read The Dargonesti, and have written an article on it, though it needs a lot of reorganizing and other corrections. I have not been able to get to any sourcebooks or gamebooks, as public libraries do not have them. Personally, I feel that the Dargonesti does not delve deeply in the Dargonesti, it only covers Urione and her domain, not the culture of Dargonesti as a whole, as well as the Dimernesti and other underwater creatures.Ddcc 03:41, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: Map Question

Checking one of the images you got deleted I notice you have used the {{db-noncom}} template without knowing (most likely by choosing the "The copyright holder only allows this work to be used for non-commercial and/or educational purposes") which tags the image to be speedy deleted because Wikipedia images must also allow commercial usage. If you are using Image:ILMap-doton-StillmanValley.PNG as base for your image, since that image is released under the GFDL license, you must license yours under the same license (since derivative work from a GFDL image must also be GFDL-licensed per the agreement). I would suggest you to also contact User:Sethant somewhere at User:Seth Ilys/Dot Project, since it appears there is some group of people working with similar maps, so that you inform them you have created one. It would be a good idea to categorize every map with a new category so that you can browse all the available maps. Good luck! -- ReyBrujo 11:17, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, you can actually upload your image, use it, and leave a note in the user talk page saying you have already created the dot map for your city. That is called being bold :-) If he is still active, he will tell you where to inform about the image. I would also suggest leaving a note at the WikiProject Illinois informing about your new image, maybe they know "where to put it" (maybe there is a gallery for all Illinois maps). In any case, if you are going to create several, I suggest to create a gallery:

You can see my own gallery at User:ReyBrujo/Images. Just create a sub section in your user page and put the gallery there, once it grows too big for your main page, create a sub page to hold them. That way you will be able to show others the images you have created, encourage others to edit your images to create other images for their own cities, and know exactly which images you have created (in case someone else, in the future, asks you to categorize them all). Note that only free images can be put in the user namespace! If you put a fair use image (in example, the Dragonlance logo, or a picture about Kitiara), it will be removed as our fair use criteria allows us to use fair use images only in articles. -- ReyBrujo 14:28, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm... well, commonly you only name the most recognized brands that are established there, although it is not necessary. However, adding URLs to companies in the article body is not recommended (in my "ideal" article, the article body would only have wikilinks, leaving external links for the References and External links sections). I suggest you to either remove the URL and leaving the names of the companies, or removing everything (that depends on whether they are notable corporations or members of some known franchise). I am guessing the anonymous inserted that information in order to "upgrade" Fairdale from village to city, so it is a good faithed attempt, but really not convenient as it may be seen as a minor spam. -- ReyBrujo 01:09, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, usually a bot is used for boring tasks (in example, adding categories to every article). I have never written one, but it is not that hard. However, you could use another solution, in example, AutoWiki Browser. But you need to get an approval to use it, I think, and since I have never used it (works only for Windows), I am not sure if it works. The last option is creating the category yourself (go to the category, write something, and save it), and then add it manually to every article that should be there, possibly all the ones listed at List of cities in Illinois and List of towns and villages in Illinois. -- ReyBrujo 03:55, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Ugh, what a waste of room. I have blanked the page, and added a {{talkheader}}. Note that per our guidelines, more exactly here, Irrelevant discussions are subject to removal. Saw your message to Rey.

So you want to know what the tag means. Unlike last time, it's not up for deletion. This is a sort of cleanup tag saying that the article doesn't show why the site is notable for a Wikipedia article. Obviously, we need to prove it's notable per the guidelines at WP:WEB. Rey is very busy with his new administrative powers and works in many more domains than I, so feel free to contact me with any such questions.

So, looking over the WP:WEB criteria, which we need to meet at least one of, as far as I know we have not met number 1. Now then, number 1 states referencing in multiple, at least two, non trivial works. I'm afraid that any reference from dragonlance.com will qualify as trivial, so no dice. If it's ever been mentioned in a newspaper which provided a good description, then we can roll with it. If it's ever won an award from an organization or publication, which I've never heard of, then we can use that. Some problems I see already; number 3 states that The content is distributed via a medium which is both well known and independent of the creators, either through an online newspaper or magazine, an online publisher, or an online broadcaster. This seems like our best chance, tell me if we meet it. I dunno if TH's podcasts count since he was involved in founding, wasn't he?.

All in all, I'm not sure if it's notable for an article. That is not by any means to say it's not a good site, it's absolutely fantastic, but Wikipedia is pretty strict. For now, let's just try to clean it up. DoomsDay349 22:31, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Nexus Page Again

That is a notability tag. It does not qualify the article for deletion, just indicates an editor questions the notability of the site. You must understand that not only Dragonlance fans read these articles, but also many others who have never ever heard about it. For these people, the article must indicate why this site is notable enough.

Usually, you would try to insert in the lead of the article (the first couple of paragraphs) the motive. In example, instead of plainly stating The Dragonlance Nexus is a Dragonlance fansite. it may be better to use something like The Dragonlance Nexus is a Dragonlance fansite originally created in 1996 as "Dragon's Realm." Since 2005, the site began publishing articles written by established authors like Douglas Niles, Nancy Varian Berberick, Mary Herbert and Kevin Stein in its Lexicon section. Some of the articles found in the site have been published in the "Dragonlance Campaign Setting" by Sovereign Press. That should prevent anyone from questioning the notability of the site by just reading the lead of the article. Remember, the lead must say, in short, what the article is about. Try to boast as much as possible there while leaving still some room for expansion in the body of the article. Nexus screenshot

I dunno if it's your authority, if it isn't please pass the request along to whose it is. I was wondering if I could have a screenshot of the front page of the Nexus for use in its article? Just a small picture, we don't need to be able to see the text or anything, we just need to be able to see the basic structure. It would really help the article. Thanks. Image sources

I'm sorry for the confusion, but I meant the source of the base map that you colorized, not the source that proves that the red highlighted area is the correct township. Did you download the original map from somewhere? Did you trace it and scan it? That's what I meant by source. --Dual Freq 01:17, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, if the source is 100% self created then that's fine, just say self created using ms paint for the source. If you used a copyrighted map and just colorized it, the end result can not be GFDL, even one on an Illinois state or county website is copyrighted. Ah yes, Black Hawk does need help, I'll look at and see what I can do. Art is history, or at least an important part of it. Didn't make it to Grand Detour yet, I was losing daylight and had to hit Byron and Stillman Valley, which didn't turn out well anyway, probably should have went to Grand Detour, ah well, I have to go to Oregon again to work on the Oregon Commercial Historic District again so I'll probably go over there then, it's a site I have always wanted to see anyway.A mcmurray 04:19, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
