Hi, I enjoyed contributing to the article about "One True Thing". It is one of my favorite movies. I think the performances of Meryl Streep, William Hurt, and Renee Zellweger were very true and moving. I read the novel by Anne Quindlen and this is one of the few times I can say that I enjoyed the movie better than the book. The book ended with the main character estranged from her Dad for many years and having married and become a Psychiatrist instead of a writer. She meets her Dad in the lobby of a opera she had been attending and they discover that they had both been believing something unimaginable about the other: that one of them overdosed the dying Kate as an act of euthanasia. They then realize she must have done it herself. The movie ending was much more realistic and true to the circle of the story. How often can one say that of a film adaptation?! Still both the movie and the book have much to recommend them as journaling the vast territory of a young woman's desire to reconcile her disparate parts. -----------KR
