Shogi question[edit]

Hi Kurushima,

I see you speak Japanese and play shogi. I have a question. At Ko shogi, someone asked about the promotion of the 記室 Clerk, on how many guards promote with it. (There are two 前衛 Advance Guards and two 後衛 Rear Guards.) My Japanese is not good enough to tell. Maybe you could help out?

The relevant Japanese text (from ja:広将棋#成り) is:

記室が軍師に成ったとき、同時に前衛と後衛も成る。ただし、記室は敵陣に入っても前衛と後衛の両方が敵陣に入っていなければ成れない。

Now, can you tell if 前衛と後衛の両方 means 前衛の両方と後衛の両方, or does in mean 前衛の1個と後衛の1個?

Also, when it says 前衛と後衛も成る, I assume it means all four 前衛と後衛?
