Wieck

Can you take a look at my Michael Wieck effort? Sca 23:11, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

It is a bit more about his experience of the destruction of Königsberg than about his life. Perhaps there should be a clearer distinction between the biographical facts and his reports (which I assume are sourced from his book)? And I think we need to explain Geltungsjude (jemand, der als Jude gilt, somebody who is counted as a Jew) in an article here. Kusma (討論) 11:38, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Regarding his life, I could add some about his early enthusiasm for Judaism, including his Bar Mitzvah. Otherwise, the story he tells in his book is largely about the dehumanizing experiences first of Nazism and then the Soviet Occupation. The details of how he survived are mostly mundane. Keep in mind he was only 17 when the war ended and 20 when he was umgesiedelt.
There is very little in his book about his subsequent life. Perhaps I can find another source online, but I don't think his later professional life is all that noteworthy, though presumably he is a very accomplished violinist.
Regarding Getltungsjude, it took me a while to understand the term, and I'm still unclear as to exactly what classes of people it encompassed. (Less than half-Jews?) Perhaps someone more familiar with the Nuremburg Laws could comment on that. Sca 22:37, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Adminship

Hello Kusma. Thank you for the kind support and the flattering adminship offer. The only reason why I'm slightly hesitant about adminship is that I feel I'm already spending way too much time editing Wikipedia as it is. But that's not a serious ojection now is it? :-) So if you're interested in nominating me at RFA, please go ahead. There's no rush of course. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 16:49, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the nomination. I will (slowly) fill in the rest of the nomination. Pascal.Tesson 14:22, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi. As you probably noticed, my RfA was unsuccessful. I was sort of bitter at first when I got oppose votes that I felt unfairly represented my work (and came from a clear clique of editors) but I've gotten over it. I'm confident that I've been doing very decent work around here without the admin tools and I don't see why I can't continue. In any case, thanks so much for your support. I hope to have other chances down the road of cooperating with you on this crazy project. Best, Pascal.Tesson 02:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

why did you delete our page numerous times?

Hello, we were trying to add a page about our band and you deleted it numerous times. Please explain to me, how can brazilian band, Trinnity, which is much smaller than us, and not as well known as the project of Kaiaphas from Ancient who had worldwide releases since 1992 until present time and several videos on MTV, be accepted to wikipedia and we can't? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Todesfee (talkcontribs) 23:13, 6 January 2007 (UTC).

The page was a copyright infringement from [1] with no assertion for permission, reposted several times. You were warned about this by Jimfbleak. I have proposed Trinnity for deletion, it does not seem to meet our inclusion criteria. Kaiaphas might barely meet them, if you can write a new article about them that is not a copyvio advertising review (for example in your userspace at User:Todesfee/Kaiaphas) I can move it over and remove the {{deletedpage}} notice. Kusma (討論) 11:30, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the reply. I will change the article and show it to you when i am done with it. Todesfee 01:26, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Now that User:Fmnb has been blocked indefinitely, is there any way to restore the Andersen Corporation article which has been speedy deleted by him? That article is linked to the This Old House article as the TV show This Old House is partially underwrited by Andersen. Steelbeard1 15:11, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

The problem that the article does not make clear that the company meets WP:CORP stays the same. I think that an article on the company citing reliable sources independent from the company would not be deleted. If you want, I can restore it to a subpage of your userspace, and it can be moved back into article space once it is clear that it is not advertising and that the company meets our notability requirements. Kusma (討論) 17:11, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I did try to create an article with the infobox previously, but that got speedy deleted. Would info from [2] be independent and sufficient enough to be the basis for a new Andersen Corporation article? Steelbeard1 17:26, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Answers.com is mostly mirroring other information sources (for example, Wikipedia) so it does not automatically qualify as a reliable source. I have no idea whether the "Encyclopedia of Company Histories" at answers.com is paid for by the companies it writes about, but the information seems to me to show that the company meets WP:CORP. This also shows that the company should be notable enough. Unfortunately Wikipedia is used for advertising rather a lot these days, so we delete many articles about companies when we're not sure. Both the version you created and the version recently deleted were perfectly valid deletes, as no reliable sources were even mentioned. Anyway, if you can write a decent article about the company, go right ahead. Should somebody falsely delete it as a repost, I'll help you with it. Kusma (討論) 17:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Not really a duplicate

I disagree that it's a duplicate, as ISO is different from iso. But whatever, good enough. At least people won't search for the two most common uses of the term (film speed and CD format) and not be able to figure out what's going on. 75.203.163.23 13:20, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I still think anything but redirecting to International Organization for Standardization is wrong, just like UN not redirecting to United Nations. The place to discuss this is Talk:ISO. Kusma (討論) 13:22, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

you deleted this page. What does it need in order to be kept.--SteelersFan UK06 17:06, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

See WP:MUSIC. Basically, we only include articles about groups that have been written about by several independent people such that reliable sources can be used to verify the content of the article. Myspace and other self-pubished websites do not count as sources. As the band has not even released its first single, it seems highly unlikely that it satisfies the criteria at WP:MUSIC. My Thanks

Thank you for the swift reversion of vandalism to my talk page, and the blocking of the offending user. Pedro1999a |  Talk  14:24, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Could you please advise on when this article can be renominated for deletion. In my opinion, whoever placed it on the main page made a gross error of judgement in the first place, as the article is a news article, not an encyclopedia article. Perhaps the relevant bolded link could go directly to the article on David Beckham? Robotforaday 14:48, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Once the article is no longer linked from the main page, it can be immediately renominated. I agree that is more like a news article than an encyclopedia article, and would have been better at Wikinews. However, I think it is preferable to have a not-so-great encyclopedia article (which is not a bad news article) linked from the Main page than linking to deletion candidates and sending lots of outside readers to AFD. Generally, many of these "news" type articles generate lots of interest and edits while they are current, and can be merged or deleted after some weeks have passed with much less noise. Kusma (討論) 14:54, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Beckham move to Los Angeles Galaxy

The result was "merge" not "speedy keep", or am I missing something?--CuentaDisponible 18:05, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

The result was "speedy keep", as there should be no AfD tag on an article linked from the Main Page. Merging can be discussed again once the article is no longer linked from the Main Page. Merging is a good idea, but right now is not the time to have an AFD dicussion. Kusma (討論) 18:10, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Pardon, I am noticing now the previous discussion. I am rather new here, could you pleoase give me a lik to this policy?--CuentaDisponible 12:27, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
The relevant guideline is at Wikipedia:Speedy keep. Kusma (討論) 13:38, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Is there some sort of procedure for perhaps a Delayed Deletion or Delayed Merge, like voting on it now and then taking the consensus action once the page is off the main page? --Targetter (Lock On) 03:58, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

There is no such procedure. You are free to invent your own, or just go ahead and boldly merge the page once it's off the Main Page, if you think this is best. To get it off the main page faster, you might discuss at T:ITNT. Kusma (討論) 13:38, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Moving here from Village Pump

'That's why I open the new unwatch pages in background tabs, where they don't annoy me. For the other thing, see User:Kusma/Contributions and Special:Recentchangeslinked/User:Kusma/Contributions for what I mean.

How do you open them in background tabs? And I still don't understand the Contributions idea. Sorry for being dense. --Dweller 15:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, I use Firefox, where (depending on your settings and number of mouse buttons) ctrl-click or middle-click opens a page in a new tab (It might be different for other browsers). I wait for popups to open, move my mouse to the "un" of "un|watch", and click my middle mouse button (or mouse wheel). A new tab opens in which I get the unwatch confirmation. The thing with my User:Kusma/Contributions is that it is my personal watchlist for articles I have started. Special:Recentchangeslinked/User:Kusma/Contributions shows me all changes to articles on that list. Using this feature, it is possible to create shared public watchlists. Hope that helps, Kusma (討論) 15:47, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Kidblount

You deleted my article on Kidblount. While I can see that some people would find an article on a webpage boring, seeing as their are articles on YTMND.com, goatse, askaninja, the N64kid and the limitless others, I don't quite how kidblount was not asserting notability, while all these others were. Moreover, how does one assert notability about a webpage that was deleted some time ago? Bilz0r 22:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

As usual by citing reliable sources. If Kidblount has been written about somewhere, perhaps you can use the sources to verifiably explain how the site meets our notability criteria for websites. Note that inclusion is not an indicator of notability, and Wikipedia is not consistent. Kusma (討論) 06:26, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Machine-translated articles

Do you know the current consunses of them? I know that at some point they were considered useless, I'd just like to know if that's changed recently and don't want to read through every related discussion in case you'd know right away. The reason is that there's a user whose only contributions consist of hundreds of machine-translated articles (some with questionable copyright status), and I'd hate to delete them if someone thinks they could be useful (mostly because it's a lot of work). - Bobet 16:46, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't know what the current consensus is; last time the issue was widely discussed, a proposal to delete these articles was defeated. My experience with WP:PRODding machine-translated articles has been mixed: some get deleted, some have their PROD removed without improvement, and some have their PROD removed with a tiny impovement. Possibly things we can do are:
  1. Tag the article with {{RoughTranslation}} and forget about it
  2. Reduce the article to a readable stub if it is long (and possibly list it at WP:TIE)
  3. Delete it under a combined interpretation of WP:CSD#G1 and WP:ROUGE (and possibly list it at WP:TIE)
Advantages are:
  1. Nothing is "lost"
  2. We don't present our readers a truly bad translation, yet keep it accessible
  3. We discourage babelfish dumpers, and a new translation is more likely to qualify for Template:Did you know (one of my major article-creation :motivations)
Disadvantages are:
  1. People hate cleaning up machine translations. Typically, it is faster to get someone to translate the article afresh than to fix the nonsense.
  2. Stubs tend to stay without expansion for a long time
  3. We don't even have a bad page with an interwiki link about the topic
If you have a specific user in mind, I can try to help and suggest which of these methods I believe to be most appropriate in that case. Best wishes, Kusma (討論) 16:57, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
The user in question is User:Priscilla D. I've just started to go through the older articles where the machine translation is the only edit and deleted a few as nonsense or completely lacking in context (an example of an article that I'd speedily delete would be Panhuaico, another one that already went was [3]). - Bobet 17:06, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, this "/Comments" page has nothing to do with the WP:1.0 assessment system. The page was created by a new user and was not going to be seen by anyone. I've moved the content to the talk pages and was just hoping someone might clean up. --Steve (Slf67) talk 09:30, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

You could have blanked the page; deleting these pages just confuses Mathbot (who will continue transcluding it even if it is deleted). Hi

I've posted on a couple of places about this as i'm not sure who exactly to contact. Or whether this is a bot thing, or a person thing.

Basically the discussion page for the article shows a brief justification for inclusion. Additional claims to notoriety include a number of reviews and interviews in the following websites and publications -BBC Radio Ulster Across the Line (3 live reviews) -Culture Northern Ireland (CD review and interview)

The band were also featured in a documentary on the Franco-German TV station "Arté" in 2004. Link [4] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.76.203.84 (talk) 11:31, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

The article doesn't mention any of this. I could have deleted it citing WP:CSD#A7. However, as the template on the article says, please fix the problem by editing the article. As I know nothing about the band, I won't write anything about them. You can be bold, fix the problems, then remove the deletion template. Happy editing, Kusma (討論) 11:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi ironically, I deliberately omitted this info from the article to attempt to keep it factual, rather than appear as a promotional tool. I will edit and update the article for the meantime I will revert to the previous version. Thanks for your consideration. Anthony

Note that the Arte page doesn't say anything about the band other that it exists; to show that it meets WP:MUSIC, there should probably be better references than this. Kusma (討論) 11:53, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

The article is essentially a synopsis of the documentary which was broadcast. The band's mentioned were all included in the documentary. As a further example this link [5] shows the band reaching the final of a Nationwide Irish Language band competition in Ireland. Do you think the inclusion of all this additional information would protect the article from further tagging?

Probably yes. The band seems to meet our criteria, although just barely. If the article is rewritten soon, I won't nominate it for deletion again, although others might. Please cite your sources in the article, not here :-) Happy editing, Kusma (討論) 12:08, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

OK cheers! I'll compile a list of supporting material and get it together onto the article as soon as I can. :-)

Re: Assessment scale

The 1.0 project generally leaves the exact interpetation of the scale to the individual WikiProjects doing the assessment, so creating more specific criteria (within reason) isn't a problem; I don't see any issues with WP:GER adopting (in whole or in part) the criteria we've come up with.

(If you do decide to use the numbered criteria system, there's some possibly useful code in {{WPMILHIST}} that produces a checklist of them on the talk page; you might want to take a look at that to see if there's anything you want to copy over to your banner as well.) re: germany tagging

On second thought, I'm not sure if I should do 1000+ edits like that with my own account, so I filed at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Sdebot, and will wait to hear before I do any more. When I add more, I'll copy the class from that template. -Steve Sanbeg 17:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Vandalproof, popups, and undo revisions

Hi, its Power Level. These's something I always wanted to know... How do I download or utilise those three things to stop vandals? What do each of those three things do exactly anyway? Can you teach me how to get access to that stuff? I really want them cause I think they're cool and they stop vandals. Please answer back to me when ya can. Thanks! Power level (Dragon Ball) 03:09, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I do not understand this: User:Power level (Dragon Ball)/monobook.js. You said you knew how to use popups, right? So, can ya help me out here? I've tried and tried to do experiments and they end up pointless as reverts. Power level (Dragon Ball) 16:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I think your change only added a comment. Did you clear your cache? Kusma (討論) 16:36, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Um, I don't know what you mean. What's "clear my cache"? Actually, can ya fix it? Power level (Dragon Ball) 16:53, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Your browser cache is on your computer, which I can't fix. Did you follow the instructions at User:Power level (Dragon Ball)/monobook.js? What is it that does not work? Kusma (討論) 16:54, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I tried to search a "Browser cache" on my computer and the search results come up empty. To tell ya the truth, I'm no good at using a broswer since I can't figure out what ya mean. I didn't understand any of those instructions for navigate/popups, since they didn't even give me an example of a cache. Is there something I may have overlooked? Power level (Dragon Ball) 17:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
You are using a web browser right now. Try to bypass your cache. If that fails, you should probably ask at the Help desk. Kusma (討論) 17:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I think I'm gonna give up on this popups stuff. It's too, too complicated. I think I'm unable to understand how to even know when it works. Power level (Dragon Ball) 20:47, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Click here, and while that page is on the screen, press and hold "Ctrl" (control). Then, with the control button still held down, press the "F5" button. That should do it. Prodego talk 20:51, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I got it. Thanks. Now I'm just awaiting approval for Vandalproof. Theres supposed to be a new message for me right? When I'm approved that is? Power level (Dragon Ball) 16:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Admin

Hi Kusma,

If you think I'd pass an RfA, I would definately like you nominating me. I haven't, however, been involved in writing an FA or GA and my large edit count is the result of my stub sorting and AWB editing. But if you think I'd make it anyway, please do nominate me. Thanks--Carabinieri 13:26, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
