Category economics game theory

Hi, I readily acknowledge my ignorance of the subject and accept direction you wish to give me. A number of articles are categorized in both "Economics" and "Game theory", but a number of other articles are just in "Game theory." Do you know whether it would make sense for me to take those that are in both categories out of the main "Economics" category? I will undo the "Economics game theory" if that's best. Thanks. Maurreen - Good you noticed that! I think probably the appropriate action would just be to remove the economics category from those pages and leave the game theory one. The reason I'm worried is that game theory is highly interdisciplinary (involving sociology, economics, biology, political science, and philosophy) and so I wouldn't want to mislead people by making a special category "economics game theory". Game theory wikiproject

You could certainly count me in. I have created and contributed to many game theory articles - it's probably the area to which I have contributed the most. I don't know anybody else who would be interested, except perhaps bluemoose. I don't know if you can acquire the 5-10 wikipedians recommended. Also, I have little time at the moment to spare for Wikipedia and my contributions tend to be infrequent flurries of activity rather than steady flows. Nonetheless, I'm certainly interested. Yes a game theory project would be nice, possibly a better idea may be to make an Economics wikiproject which encapsulates game theory (which we amazingly dont have in the economics and business section of projects! ), because a project just for game theory may be a bit specific to gain any popularity. I could start it off etc, you could just add your bit to the subsection of gametheory, but I wouldnt really know what other issues to deal with, I havent been too busy in the economics section recently, I guess things like categorisation and expanding all those stubs need to be dealt with. How do you think Game theory would benefit, just out of interest? One thing i can think of is if we copyed the idea of my other pet; Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles, and got a good economics/game theory encyclopedia/dictionary and make sure we cover everything it does. Looks like a good idea. I'm tempted to volunteer (there are a few game theory pages I wish I had time to have a go at) but I expect to be pretty heavily time-invested in other areas over the next month or so. Good intentions, bad habits. I have a grad student who is starting up on a game theory thesis project next month. I was considering assigning him some pages to get him up to speed, but I'm not convinced this is the best thing to do. Pete.Hurd 18:35, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

I note that you've added winning strategy to this project. I had thought of that article as being mainly about determinacy (that is, infinite games). There are certainly some points of commonality with the more practically-oriented game theory used by economists, but I wonder if they're enough.

On the other hand there's a lot of work to do on the determinacy-style games (see Talk:Winning_strategy#Organizational_questions), and help would be welcome.

So I see several possibilities:

1. Try to to deal with both sorts of games in a common framework. This has the advantage of avoiding duplication of articles. But I think there could be some awkwardness too.
2. Start another Wikipedia:WikiProject Determinacy, and try to avoid getting in each other's way. But would there enough people to work on it?
3. I could write a Game (set theory) article, and point everything from the determinacy stuff there. Probably there should be a dab on winning strategy.

What do you think?

Well, I'm mainly a functional analyst/quantum information theorist, but I do have a strong interest in mathematical economics and did have at one point an interest in getting some mathematically accurate pages on fixed point theory/convexity theory etc, although that subsided somewhat since my wiki energy was largely sapped by a controversy over an article Bell's theorem. Well, admittedly I don't know anything about him that wasn't in the New York Times obituary. I keep intending to write an article on the fixed-point theorem, which I saw as part of the formal proof for the existance of the Nash equilibria. Every time I sit down to write it, I end up sidetracked into writing a different article. First it was his daughter Michiko, and this time the man himself. I guess third time will be the charm. The dab option on popups works great! And it will attempt to repair multiple links per page--just have to double check each one in the preview. OK, just wondering if I couldn't find such a tool in user space. The WP:Sock puppet page is really vague about when it's appropriate to tag someone as a suspected sockpuppet, I'm not willing to do it on gut feeling alone. Judgment-proof

Hello:

FYI, judgment-proof is a slang term used among lawyers for a defendant with no substantial financial assets (for example, a typical welfare recipient who lives in public housing and takes the bus and only owns a few bits of used furniture and clothes). Therefore, that person cannot be rationally deterred from committing torts, since the person literally has nothing to lose but his liberty, and that can be taken away only when the state proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant has committed a crime.

In case you're wondering why injunctions and contempt wouldn't work as an alternative (a classic question in Remedies classes) it's because no court will issue a general order to obey the law (since that is presumed to be required of all members of society anyway). Injunctions (and the use of contempt citations and jail time to enforce them) are usually granted only when it is explicitly clear that the defendant will commit a particular tort in the near future unless stopped (such as abusing one's spouse or children for the fourth or fifth time in a week).

Sure I'd like to be kept updated. How have you solved the copyright issues? I and my teammeate have been running in circles trying to get a clear answer if we can order the students to sumbit their work on Wiki (under GDFL, obviously - thus forfeiting some copyrights). hey Kevin, well it is quite a funky sig! I've only relatively recently started changing mine, but since then it's been through a fair few incarnations. complaint

I have a complaint to make. I've submitted several relevant links for UCI students. One, being UCI Housing and the other Off-Campus Housing (presently removed) which points to a community website that is completely free and has been mentioned by CSUF's newspaper as a great resource for students. Furthermore, I have read your spam page on the guidelines of posting links, and I feel that due to the fact that my link points to relevant information and has non-promotional language, I should be allowed to post my link. Many people are thankful that I have created iHomeConnect as way of helping people find housing. When people like you remove quality links like mine, you are restricting the exchange of information and taking the power out of the hands of the people and giving more power to corporate entities. The table to the upper right of the Bjerknes (lunar crater) has a row labelled "References". That link points to the page containing the references (and external links) I used. I didn't see the point of listing the same dozen or so references on all 1600+ crater pages. Is that not satisfactory? Hey Kevin, I was just admiring the most recent anon edits to Game theory, and thought it might be time to take a first peek to compare the number of constructive/non-constructive anon/non-anon edits to articles, Counting from the time since they had maintained templates put on them, versus the equivalent time before the templates... Sorry, I meant that I don't think anon IPs (or anyone else) would be dissuaded from making useful contributions by the template. This would be evidence against the 'ownership' argument I hear that suggests that the template acts as some sort of territorial urine tag which will act to dissuade constructive editorial contributions.
