Good morning

Good morning, my friend

I am very happy with you, hello and easy Mkrywlyzyz (talk) 13:37, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Mkrywlyzyz hello and good evening (is it evening where you are at?) to you too!
Just a heads up, I redirected Ismail Yassine in the Fleet to the already existing page on it if you did not know already.
I hope you have a great rest of your day!

2023 Sudan Conflict to Third Sudanese Civil War

Hi @L'Mainerque, You made a comment on Requested move 24 April 2023 and on Two RMs open on the Talk:2023 Sudan conflict. I left a comment on Two RMs open, however I think the Talk:2023_Sudan_conflict community needs to decide which RM to close quick, what do you think. Oddballslover (talk) 03:16, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

@Oddballslover I'm sorry, but I don't have the energy to communicate further tonight. I'll reply tomorrow when I have the energy, and then I can get a better range of responses I can learn off. - L'Mainerque - (Woo, /talk/!) - 03:35, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Please help with my subpage User talk:L'Mainerque/Newsletters.

After I created User:L'Mainerque/Newsletters as a redirect to User talk:L'Mainerque/Newsletters, the following came up on the latter page:

Will I have to delete my redirect to get rid of this? Or can I place a template to hide it?

Thanks, - L'Mainerque - (Woo, /talk/!) - 23:20, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

It will automatically disappear once the first topic header is added - RichT|C|E-Mail 00:26, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
@Rich Smith I am honestly not sure how I did not think of that lmao. Thank you! - L'Mainerque - (Woo, /talk/!) - 00:29, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

See the official city website as well: https://www.augustamaine.gov/ 331dot (talk) 17:06, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

I guess I am really clumsy then for never noticing that. Thank you. - L'Mainerque - (r/talkpage) - 17:09, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
You are welcome. It's easy to miss it really. Please accept these messages as friendly. 331dot (talk) 19:29, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
I did assume that these messages were meant in good faith friendliness from the get-go, but the reassurance is still appreciated and comforting. Thank you for your kindness and understanding. - L'Mainerque - (r/talkpage) - 20:44, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

"We are not the Hawaiian Wikipedia"

Correct, but this is how the state's name is spelled in English too. Look at https://portal.ehawaii.gov/, at the top of the page: "Governor Josh Green was sworn in as the ninth Governor of the State of Hawaiʻi on Dec 5, 2022."

Or https://dod.hawaii.gov/hiarng/: "State of Hawai‘i - Hawai‘i Army National Guard".

Neither is official and both are used in English. I get why you're changing it – that is, anglicizing it – but your edit comment is rooted in ignorance (and arguably racism). Not trying to be rude, just a heads up for the future. –Fpmfpm (talk) 21:37, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

@Fpmfpm I was not trying to be insensitive in any way. I now recognize that my edit summary carries off a ruder meaning, and I am sorry. I was ignorant in not knowing that both spellings were English acceptable. However, I ask that you strike the "(and arguably racism)" part of your message, as I find that quite rude and because that is not true. - L'Mainerque - (Disturb my newspaper reading) - 21:49, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
I'm absolutely not implying you are racist, just that the practice of anglicization – which goes hand-in-hand with stuff like colonization which is still very relevant to Hawaiʻi in the modern day – is rooted in that, and one could argue it is that, even if unintentionally. None of us are infallible or free of these structures, me included… just as we exist within systems of white supremacy, even though (obviously) the vast majority of people are not white supremacists themselves and I'm sure intensely disavow & stand against those sorts of beliefs. Thanks for being receptive and sorry if my message came off as too pointed or harsh, it wasn't my intention! Hawaiʻi is a pretty unique, interesting place where both English and ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian) are official languages, and both Hawaiʻi English (a unique dialect) and Hawaiʻi Creole English are used on a daily basis on all levels of society and in official capacities. The decision as to which spellings we should make "official" on Wikipedia (and the history and beliefs behind these decisions) is definitely an interesting ongoing conversation and something worth thinking about. :) –Fpmfpm (talk) 21:57, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
@Fpmfpm thank you for your response. I will neither confirm or deny that anglicization is rooted in racism (drama powderkeg), though I understand why someone would come to that conclusion. I was actually just about to ask for clarification about that element of your message after looking at it again, and I apologize for jumping to conclusions. I appreciate the polite clarification even in the absence of me asking for it. The debate over what spellings to use for Hawaii is definitely something we as a community should clarify.
I appreciate your politeness & understanding. Your input has made me become more aware over what others might think. - L'Mainerque - (Disturb my newspaper reading) - 22:10, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
No problem, and thanks for the good conversation. I see a new section on the talk page which you maybe interested in which links to WP:MOSHAWAII, which includes the guideline "In general, follow the orthography of use for the kahakō and ʻokina wherever possible when using Hawaiian words and phrases, except in article titles." Good to know, for me as well since I hadn't seen that! –Fpmfpm (talk) 04:04, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
