Category:American women novelists[edit]

What has happened is that a well-intentioned effort was taking place, to move people out of the generic categories and into more specific categories. All members of subcategory "American women novelists" are by definition also members of category "American novelists"; but non-experienced Wikipedia users don't realize that. This has become a public relations disaster, since nobody seems to have thought out the idea that putting one gender into a sub-cat and not the other(s) could be misconstrued (and has been) as segregation or deprecation. I hope this explains things a little more clearly. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:59, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
