It's been hard to be so isolated, and after a couple of months in hospital, I lost some of my things and the rest had to be moved to the family house --most tossed into grocery sacks all willy-nilly, so, even items outside my brain seem to be a total mess, or missing in action. I LOVE you folks. It's rare I get a chance to go online until I'm discharged, but hopefully that will only take a few weeks. David Reece

Hi! I noticed the "multiple issues" tag on the article about David Reece. I'd like to improve the article, but I don't understand what the issues are. There's another tag that the lead section may not summarize the subject well - I'm not so sure about that, as I think Reece's main claim to fame is his stint with Accept, so there's not much more to say in the lead section. If you could please give me some directions about the article's weaknesses (apart from its brevity), I'll get to work on it. Advice on uploading photos into Commons, please.

Dear Leah,

I can see you're contributing today and I am therefore hoping, for your sake, that it means you are presently in good health. And since we've never communicated before: I am very pleased to meet you!

The purpose of this message is to ask for your assistance, if and when convenient, about the process of uploading photos into Wikimedia Commons, please Leah. I read your user page and it encouraged me to ask you for such assistance, as I find it really difficult to understand how to navigate the Wiki's processes and copyright rules in order to upload a photo successfully.

Specifically, an acquaintance of mine has the copyright to photos of a notable musician who already has an article on Wikipedia; and she would like to add at least one photo there. However, she is not a Wikipedian and I have never uploaded a single photo into Commons (and, in any case, I couldn't do it on her behalf since I don't own the copyright myself and would therefore fall foul of the 'copyright patrollers').

So, I thought of asking you if you would be kind enough to outline a step-by-step procedure to enable her (as a novice Wikipedian who owns the copyright to the photos) to upload at least one photo into Commons.

Once that first photo is in Commons, then I would be able to pull it off and into the article. If the process is easy enough for her, then she might consider adding more photos.

Thank you for letting me know if we could count on your intellectual support for this small-scale effort. I'd like to think that, with clear and precise step-by-step instructions from an expert such as yourself, we should be able to upload our first photo with greater confidence. And, of course, once we've learnt from uploading our first photo, we'd soon be self-sufficient.

On the other hand, if you are very busy and don't have any time to spare at the moment, then I'd quite understand and wouldn't wish to intrude any further.

About computers. I may be able to offer some help there. I have installed Linux Mint on some old PCs. Linux Mint is free, and is the most popular Linux distribution. It works OK if the computer has at least 2 GB of RAM. I recommend more. 3 or 4 GB. Almost any computer not older than 10 years will work. Lots of them are being unloaded on ebay, etc.. Practically for free (or just shipping cost), since Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft. How to remove stuff from photos

I finally figured out how to remove stuff from photos (unwanted text, logos, etc.). In IrfanView, the free image editor I use (along with its plugin pack), I go to the edit menu, and then "show paint dialog". Then I click on the clone tool (2nd row down, right side).

I right click an area with the background color I want to use. Then I left click and drag over the stuff I want to remove.

You have to play with it a few times, and then it is easier to use. You can close (X on the top right) the paint dialog box, and then relaunch the paint dialog, if necessary.

I often have to right click the background color again to get it to work right. It's weird how 2 circles show up. But it works. You can always close and reopen the image if you make a mistake. Then start over. When successful, save the image.

At the bottom of the paint dialog box you can set the width of the circle numerically in pixels. Or according to help: "Hold down the shift key, and scroll with the mouse-wheel to adjust the width of the clone brush.". A smaller diameter can help a lot in some situations.

Open up help from the help menu. Then look for "paint" in the index, or "clone" in help search. The clone tool info is on the help page for paint.

another Cat citation needed

Hey Leah - hope things are good for you. Someone edited the article to say he has six children - apparently there are some incorrect sources out there - the fact seems to be that he has five, plus there was a sixth, a son, who died in infancy. Lisa Fischer

I take note that that you have reverted an edit I did to an article about Lisa Fischer. My edit about two months ago added two photographs of the artists, both depicting her at a recent concert. The first photograph was a close-up, showing her entire face and it displays the likeness, personality, and the mood of the person. The second photographs showed her from the behind, among the engaged concert crowd. Both photographs were sharp and of high quality.

After your reversion the article has fewer images illustrating the article, and I would argue that you cannot make out the person from any of the photographs in the article. I would argue that the article is poorer the way you have edited it now.

I see that you have made changes to the article without replying to my comment above. In the edit you are hinting that a photograph is not reflected in the text. The photo you removed was taken at a solo concert, showing the artist among the audience and the artist being very engaged with the audience. The text section where the photo was placed is called "Solo success" and highlights the career after the artist went solo. The text mentions several sold out concerts in 2015, the photographs shows the artist in a crowded concert hall in 2016. I would say that it is pretty well related to the text. But I would like to know why you have removed the photograph.

You have left the article with only two photographs and it is not cluttered with photographs. In my opinion it would benefit from more photos not fever. Can you please not revert my modification to the article about Lisa Fischer without providing a rationale and refrain from making personal remarks? Please provide a rationale for your edits here. Getting pictures

I don't understand why it is so difficult to get photos for Wikipedia. Wouldn't a celebrity or someone who wants to be a celebrity, which is apparently everyone, want their photo in Wikipedia? Wouldn't a musician who is unknown want their picture on Wikipedia? I've read so many entries that are like resumes, by people who think Wikipedia is free advertising and a way for them to promote themselves. I would have thought some of these people would be eager to donate a photo of themselves. What photographer, for that matter, wouldn't want to have his work on Wikipedia, possibly to be seen by a large audience? Now that really is free advertising.

How is it done? How does one get a musician of whatever fame or talent to give up one photo of themselves? What's the problem? What is it so difficult? You mentioned some of the process on your user page.

How often does he play with John Mayer? He's not listed on the John Mayer Trio page as a regular. My understanding is that the associated acts field is for groups the person is a member of, has been a member of, or musicians the person has spent years with, recording and touring multiple times.

Sorry, I screwed up. Palladino is now more with Jeff Beck, tours with The Who, but I recall him originally from Frank Zappa in my earliest days. He obviously can play any style of music- hard rock to jazz! Generally, the photos still remain, (or at least one each will, as several photographers illegally changed from CC-SA attribution back to copyright when I was a few months comatose in the ICU followed by a year to learn to move any part of me and to speak, stand, walk, and had no knowledge of warnings if sent by Commons-- a place which I consider a cold hard necessity but no love or kindness felt there so I avoid it at all costs... I'm getting sicker again, might be the pain killer or whatever buzzing me out.. can't believe I never (yet?) got back to my old self.. my fault since I worked on both articles (Palladino and Colaiuta) around the same years' time. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 15:15, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
