Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

Scottywong case opened

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Scottywong. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Scottywong/Evidence. Please add your evidence by June 21, 2023, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Scottywong/Workshop. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. For the Arbitration Committee, –MJLTalk 19:22, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Extra space after curlies broke the pattern match

Please see this edit by Redrose64 at Talk:Creep (Radiohead song)#Request for comment on In Films Section removing a space after the initial curlies, which then allowed the bot to process the already long-expired Rfc.

It would be good if the bot pattern were more forgiving about extra blanks fore and aft (and around pipes). Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 23:29, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Long-outstanding Legobot problem with UTF-8 encoding

There have been further calls for you to "just fix the bot" and also another request that Legobot should be shut down, this time at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 June 8#Redirects for Legobot no longer linked to. Please would you explain to them why you have more urgent things to do. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 13:32, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Pages for Legobot to scan for Linter errors

Since Legobot's last Linter-fixing edit on 26 March 2023, I have performed Linter error fixes on about 3,000 pages, often leaving behind complex font tags and other obsolete tags for the bot to handle. If you have time to run the bot through this list of pages, I would be grateful. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:28, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
