Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC is open regarding amending the paid-contribution disclosure policy to add the following text: Any administrator soliciting clients for paid Wikipedia-related consulting or advising services not covered by other paid-contribution rules must disclose all clients on their userpage.

Technical news

  • Administrators can now choose to add the user's user page to their watchlist when changing the usergroups for a user. This works both via Special:UserRights and via the API. (T272294)

COI tag on Kessel Run

I responded to Talk:Kessel_Run#COI_tag and it's been a few days. I am pretty sure that tag should not be there. --GRuban (talk) 14:09, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

I've replied. I'll reiterate what I said earlier, there are literally millions of other articles that need work or creating, please work on those instead of the one article you have a COI with. Legoktm (talk) 05:53, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

TFA Protector Bot and {{pp}}

Hello, Legoktm! I hope you are doing well and enjoying your vacation (if the Debian Conference has passed, I hope that went well!)
I was noticing the TFA Protector Bot now semi-protects TFAs immediately before being shown onto the front page. If so, is there a way to program the bot so as to add {{pp}} (parameter small you can decide) to let users know that the page has been protected from editing? If this is not necessarily the case for {{pp}} (I myself need a refresher on policies/guidelines) please let me know.3PPYB6 (T / C / L) — 03:30, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi, @3PPYB6, I don't think the pp template is necessary, and if it is, it should be added by a software feature (T12347) instead of a bot. Legoktm (talk) 05:55, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Congressional Workers Union

On 27 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Congressional Workers Union, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that during a call that led to the creation of the Congressional Workers Union, one of the participants attended from a bathroom stall? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Congressional Workers Union. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Congressional Workers Union), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
