Tolkien user box[edit]

Sorry. You must be using Internet Explorer. It apparently does not recognize the color grey, but gray. I changed the spelling and tested it; it should work now. —Aiden 18:48, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In Response to Your Earlier Message[edit]

Thank you. I have thought of getting an account, are there any hazards involved in maintaining one? What do you mean by signature, do you mean putting in the time that one wrote something? I used to put that in, but my watch ran out of batteries. It should be restored soon enough. -- User:67.21.80.96

Hogwarts[edit]

Hmm.. must have missed that.. I just knew at one point that everything was US English spelling. In that case, you're right to change it back. Dan 15:04, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to VandalProof![edit]

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Lgriot! You have now been added to the list of authorized users, so if you haven't already, simply download and install VandalProof from our main page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any other moderator, or you can post a message on the discussion page. AmiDaniel (talk) 01:49, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know about the merge, that was the right thing to do. Cheers. — Estarriol talk 17:56, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dance capitalization[edit]

I noticed that you listed yourself as a linguist. There is currently a dispute at the Lindy Hop article the Dance WikiProject about the capitalization of dances that could use the expertise of a linguist. If you think you might be able to help, we would certainly appreciate your comments. Thanks! --Cswrye 05:17, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lexicon[edit]

Hi Lgriot, I noticed you joining the Lexicon Forum and you mentioning your participation in Wikipedia. Just wanted to make myself known to you both here (as Fbv65edel) and there (as Finn BV). See you around! --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 15:59, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! I noticed your name too, but it's been a little while since I've been working on HP, since I founded the WikiProject Narnia and have been focusing on that. Everybody is really nice over on the Forum. I've been there for about a year and a half. Lexicon Steve doesn't pop in too often, but he's very friendly as well. You are always welcome to contribute essays to the Lexicon, but only people who are hired by him [1] can edit it. There is a thread the top of the Forum, however, that lets members offer their questions and corrections, and it is called # Corrections or Questions to the Lexicon. Usually a staff member of the Lexicon will make the necessary changes. Still, if you'd like to be a major Lexicon editor, you can email Steve and inquire. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 21:59, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Obat buri mung magaral ning Kapampangan?[edit]

I looked at your profile after seeing your edits to Kapampangan language. Now I have to ask, why would a guy in the UK want to learn Kapampangan? :-) I'm intrigued. -- Chris S. 15:27, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why didn't you learn tagalog or cebuano rather than Kapampangan, coz it is alot harder to speak Kapampangan than them btw i am CebuanoAustralian Jezza 10:12, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thts kewl, but i wouldn't learn tagalog anyway lolAustralian Jezza 08:18, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salut ! Si t'as besoin d'aide, hésite pas à me laisser un commentaire. --Chris S. 04:44, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My name[edit]

Actually, it's from the Stephen Chow movie Forbidden City Cop, the Chinese name of which is literally "Secret Agent 008 of The Great Within". I chose the name because (1) it's a funny movie, and (2) my main project at the time was Forbidden City. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 11:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

new WP:RDREG userbox[edit]

This user is a Reference desk regular.

The box to the right is the newly created userbox for all RefDesk regulars. Since you are an RD regular, you are receiving this notice to remind you to put this box on your userpage! (but when you do, don't include the |no. Just say {{WP:RD regulars/box}} ) This adds you to Category:RD regulars, which is a must. So please, add it. Don't worry, no more spam after this - just check WP:RDREG for updates, news, etc. flaminglawyerc 01:44, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Got it, thanks a lot --Lgriot (talk) 04:51, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ss[edit]

Just curious: what does "ss" mean when you use it in an edit summary? Pais (talk) 17:25, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, nothing! It just that a summary is mandatory, but on talk pages, I have always thought they were just a bit useless, and I can't think of anything, so that is just the first letter under my finger. --Lgriot (talk) 18:25, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'd say using an edit summary is highly desirable (not quite mandatory) in article space, but in talk and talk-like space no one is going to gripe if you don't use one. Pais (talk) 15:01, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't change subject headers.[edit]

Proofreading and revision of French subtitles of File:Sextortionagent interview.ogg[edit]

Will you be interested in proofreading and revising the French subtitles of File:Sextortionagent interview.ogg? They are located at Commons:File talk:Sextortionagent interview.ogg/French. Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 03:50, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have done my best. Great subject to contribute on (very useful to society). I amended the text directly in there, you can see the diff here http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File_talk%3ASextortionagent_interview.ogg%2FFrench&diff=94123582&oldid=94097853.
I have decided to use "Tu" every time a child is addressed, and "Vous" every time an adult is addressed, which I think is natural for a radio interview. Let me know what you think.--Lgriot (talk) 12:36, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! Using the "tu" form when a child is addressed and vous form everything else sounds right to me! The French is moved to Commons:TimedText:Sextortionagent_interview.ogg.fr.srt and so one can now see the subtitles at fr:Sextorsion WhisperToMe (talk) 15:35, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

for this edit. A most excellent intervention in my view. Cheers, --Viennese Waltz 07:42, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, Waltz. Bugs did this before when I was trying to explain about gay/straight/bi self-identification, he denied that people had the right to decide how they should be categorised. Maybe he thinks he is the only one qualified to decide? How does he propose to do it, every single time someone is in doubt somewhere in the world they need to ask the Bugs police? --Lgriot (talk) 08:08, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This looks like a philosophical argument whether judgement should be based on acts (form) or on content. Idealists and pragmatists have tended to prefer acts, and formal logicians contents.
Color is a physical property that depends on the reflection/absorption of light with certain wavelengths. It can be measured, although the same light does not necessarily produce the same color perception in different persons. How black is black? If #000000 is black, what about #000001? Black can be either well-defined or syncategorematic (relative) like "big". A big mouse is not a big animal. Ethiopians may appear black to white Caucasians, but they are rather pale compared to a Bantu. --212.186.133.83 (talk) 07:52, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish (and Portuguese) tripular[edit]

RAE.es gives the same etymology (from Latin interpolāre), but I find it unconvincing. priberam.pt says "origem obscura", and there seem to be no cognates in French and Italian. Maybe it is from Latin tribulare "to press, squeeze", related to tribulation, or from tripa (with cognates in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian), "guts, intestine", or connected with Latin turba (turbula) "group, crowd". --212.186.133.83 (talk) 06:43, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
