Non robotic welcome[edit]
Hi there! It was pleasant meeting you at the monthly WikiWednesday. You might want to add your name to the list of those attending. Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/July 2023 Better late than never. Next time we have a meeting at that shop, I'll remember to bring a shirt.
I also hope to meet you again in the next few days to help with your MLK Memorial draft. I always tell new editors they should start by improving old articles rather than add new ones, but I don't mind when they go ahead and start a new article in which they need a bunch of help. I couldn't stand the chill. Anyway by the time we meet, you should have the majority of the the prose finished for this draft or another, and we can work on formatting the text (easy) and checking the references (less easy). And then, the pictures. We had several people at the meeting who do pictures, including some who do them better than I do, but words generally come first. - The draft at this time is at User:Lhallingby/sandbox. Copying it from the version you wrote as a word processing document has destroyed the formatting, so we shall rebuild appropriate bullet lists, paragraphs and whatever else is needed.  Additionally, you are invited to the picnic anyone can edit on Governors Island, at Colonel's Row by ArtCrawl Harlem house, as part of the Great North American Wiknic celebrations (and Wikimania satellite events) being held across the continent. This is the first big summer Wiknic since the 2019 edition and will feature an edit-a-thon focused on Governors Island and ArtCrawl Harlem, Depths of Wikipedia (recently of perpetual stew fame), as well as plenty more food topics drawing on the potluck ethos. All are welcome, new and experienced!

- Hi Lhallingby. We met at WikiWednesday yesterday. It looks like the reviewer indicated draft isn't quite ready. The first order of business is adding more references. Wikipedia has rules about what subjects should have its own article, what should not be covered, and what should be covered as part of another article. The argument you're making is that the memorial is notable enough to have its own article, and not just be part of the school's article. To do that you'll need more sourcing to show notability. I had a quick look around and found these, which may be of use: [1] [2] [3] ... There's an ARTnews article from November 1986 called "A memorial in decay", but I don't have access to it. There are also some sources on Tarr's website here.
- Once notability is shown, the reviewer will probably look to make sure most of the claims in the article are supported by those sources. So you'll probably want to cite the various meanings.
- I'd be surprised if there weren't a whole lot of press about this subject -- it's a well known public work. The question is how much of it is digitized/accessible. :/ — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:41, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
