seriously?[edit]

When I saw Joost de Valk article, I assumed it was created by some spammer under "get the founder's article first" strategy someone suggested on Twitter. It's blantant. All the sources used are unreliable. I would have AfDed it immediately if I hadn't seen your name in the page history. Do you actually intended to defend the subject as notable? TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 05:29, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @TryKid:. Still working on the article. Been in a long day of editing. I hope to continue tomorrow, but I have a good start. I feel the subject is notable and I am ferreting out articles - I have some magazines. I hope you give it a chance. It was the third article I started, all from the start of seeing the Yoast article. DYK for Andy Auld (Royal Navy officer)[edit]

|text = On 17 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Andy Auld (Royal Navy officer), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that during the Falklands War, Royal Navy officer Andy Auld helped make operational the Sea Harrier, a short take-off and vertical landing jet fighter? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Andy Auld (Royal Navy officer)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. }} Cwmhiraeth (talk) 00:02, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
The phrase was being used, clearly, as a descriptive term. ——Serial 02:21, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Adam Everett Livix[edit]

Hello, Lightburst. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Adam Everett Livix".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! JMHamo (talk) 08:27, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Christopher Kaelin, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Replaceable fair use File:Petri Hawkins-Byrd on the Judge Judy Show.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Petri Hawkins-Byrd on the Judge Judy Show.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 00:35, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delsort[edit]

Hi. It looks like you're doing deletion sorting manually, so I figured I'd make sure you're aware that there's a script that can help. Someone created a version years ago that listed a few commonly used delsort categories in the sidebar of AfDs for easy clicking. I modified it to include all of them (and organize them). It's been a few years, so it may be out of date, but it's easy to update if necessary. Basically you just click the category from the sidebar and it edits both the AfD and the delsort with that one click (and includes a handy link to the AfD in the edit summary of the delsort). User:Rhododendrites/scripts/delsort-monobook-all.js. It's called monobook but works in Vector, too. I did create a copy of their non-monobook version, too. The main difference is this one displays in a Vector drop-down rather than the sidebar. If it's useful... — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:54, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, for the message user:Rhododendrites it is a bit cumbersome the way I have been sorting. I give it a try! Lightburst (talk) 15:06, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There are other options, too. Like User:Enterprisey/delsort. Only following up because I really like the feature whereby I can just click the link to the AfD from the edit summary, and if you look at e.g. the lists delsort history, yours are the only ones that don't include that link. Certainly not mandatory, of course. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 00:26, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites: Thanks again. Sadly, I am not aware of how to use scripts. I had a look but it looks greek to me. I probably would need to watch a video or have a step by step. Lightburst (talk) 14:40, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! It's actually a lot easier than it sounds. You have a page called User:Lightburst/common.js where you can include your own javascript, but better is to explore WP:USL and just "import" whatever you want. To try the script that I adapted from someone else (someone who knows javascript, which I do not), edit your common.js and just past this line in: importScript('User:Rhododendrites/scripts/delsort-monobook-all.js');
Then go to an AfD, see if you find it useful, and if not just go back to your common.js and remove it. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:48, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Slick. My only issue is that many categories are not represented in the sidebar. For instance Fashion. So I had to manually enter this one. Lightburst (talk) 16:04, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Rhododendrites: Doh. I just saw it when I went to the AfD directly. cool beans, a time saver I remember not long ago, North America added "Products" and there is a "Covid 19" sort also. It would be great to have them all in the sorting script. Lightburst (talk) 16:05, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites: so awesome. Actually makes delsorting so simple! Thanks!. I copied the whole code because I found another ommission "women". I imagine there are more so i did not want to keep bothering you. Lightburst (talk) 22:58, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you find it useful! And yeah, by all means fork it (it's what I did with FW's script, after all). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 23:02, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah Fashion is in there under arts. Just now added Products (near the top) and COVID-19 (under science). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:32, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My respect[edit]

FWIW, I may disagree with your opinion on the name of Kenosha protests, but my respect for you is very high. I specially as you have contributed photos. And the fact you are willing to discuss things on a fairly temperate way impresses me. I hope we can work out something that finds a middle ground. But kudos to you. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 01:07, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. please be safe. Perhaps find articles about locals feelings about the protests, we could use that in the article. That would, IMO, satisfy NPOV criteria. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 01:08, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chris.sherlock: Thanks much. I think articles are better with photos. Probably why Sports Illustrated was so popular- or was it the swimsuit edition? I forgot. I understand the protest moniker. My disagreement with it is fleeting. Although it is an eery feeling to see such destruction in a small Wisconsin town. Lightburst (talk) 01:11, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Haha! Yeah, good point about Sports Illustrated :-) But it’s awful what is happening. I do feel for the people and businesses of Kenosha. All of you. I hope when this is over healing and reconciliation can begin. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 01:15, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chris.sherlock: Do you have any preference for a photo in the protest article? Lightburst (talk) 01:37, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have the gallery on Commons? - Chris.sherlock (talk) 02:08, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chris.sherlock: Yes, these are the ones. Not the Rittenhouse photo but most of the others.Lightburst (talk) 02:11, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would love to see photos on the article. As it is such a high profile and controversial subject, my suggestion is to create a gallery page on Commons around the Kenosha protests, then add the template for commons to the bottom of the page, and chose the image you think is highly quality and most fairly represents the material you are illustrating. Then I'd add this in the appropriate spot. Optionally (and perhaps most wisely) I'd start a thread on the talk page advising what you have done, why you feel it is fair, point out that there are other images to choose from and ask for the edit to be reviewed. That allows for maximum transparency, and allows others to collaborate with you. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 02:20, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I usually just stick one in there. Maybe I will try that. Lightburst (talk) 02:21, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate AFD[edit]

Resolved by @Deacon Vorbis: I believe? GiantSnowman 15:32, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've not closed anything. Deacon Vorbis closed the second nomination (started at 10:01), which is showing on the delsort list as closed. The first nomination (started at 09:34) remains open. GiantSnowman 16:00, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: I think unresolved. The two entries are for the same item, see them both entered on the delsort list. In the first entry "List of the most successful association football clubs by country–CONCACAF" the nominator forgot to enter (2nd nomination) so it was renominated by the same nominator correctly. So I think you accidentally closed the incorrect one? Lightburst (talk) 15:38, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. There is still an issue with the nomination - hot link for view AfD does not work. But we have all spent enough time on it. Thanks for having a look. Lightburst (talk) 16:03, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's clear that the nominator did not know what they were doing AND that they created the AFD manually, give the typo in the AFD title. I have moved the AFD page to the correct location to match the article name - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of the most successful association football clubs by country–CONCACAF. Greetings. I had questions about the close here. While the consensus is clear to draftify, the close was 1) done by the nominator, which is irregular, 2) the formatting on the close still needs some fixing if is to remain closed, and 3) the draftification did not actually occur. So would it be less bad to fix the close and proceed with the draftification, or to undo the bad close and let it run a while longer, seeing as it had been relisted by Sandstein a mere three hours before? Thanks. --Finngall talk 14:57, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Finngall:, I did not close it. The user on top closed it. It likely is a badnac - I merely closed the bottom because all new AfDs appeared closed as a result of the missing bottom template. I also signed it for the closer. Perhaps approach an admin to give a hand? Sandstein is usually around and is very knowledgable. Lightburst (talk) 15:02, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Protection to content creators[edit]

Dear Lightburst,

You've become known to me as "someone particularly concerned about protecting content creators" due to your votes in recent RfCs.

I am now in a situation where content creation is being discouraged, which is why I'm writing to you. Let me explain.

There is a content dispute. Party X says there are reliable sources to state something. Party Y says there are not.

Party X is composed of two people that are actively participating in the discussion. Four people have given single paragraph statements supporting this party, but do not care to discuss ad infinitum.

Party Y is composed of one person that is actively participating in the discussion.

The discussion is up since September 20, and no consensus has been achieved yet.
The article history is filled with reverts from both parties.

I entered party X to side with Jammo85, whose contributions were being, in my view, incorrectly reverted.
Now I am under risk of having sanctions imposed against me, under the argument of editing prior to achieving consensus. See diff of admin comment on edit warring noticeboard.

May I have your opinion on this? And do you think you could participate in any way in this matter? Walwal20 talkcontribs 12:21, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Walwal20: Thanks for the message. These content disputes are awful and sympathize. It seems you have more experience than the other user you reported at WP:3RR. I recently had such a petty dispute and I left the article alone for a while. In the long view WP will be here long after we are gone, so we have time to circle back. Regarding my own participation I am afraid it would seem like canvassing. These content disputes are easier to judge when 100 people participate, and hard when it is just 3-5 people with differing opinions. You may have to wait for more participation on the discussion. Lightburst (talk) 14:01, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the insights. I think the long view perspective is neat. Maybe responding to things as soon as they happen is not the best strategy. I'll give it some thought. Gratefully, Walwal20 talkcontribs 14:26, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:33, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Gun serial number[edit]

On 8 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gun serial number, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a gun serial number can be any random set of numbers letters or a character string? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gun serial number. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Gun serial number), and it may be added to the statistics page if it received over 400 views per hour. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
