October 2012[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a message letting you know that one of your recent edits has been undone by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.

I am trying to update our page as it is hideously out of date. I submitted extensive changes which were then undone by some bot. Please help me correctly submit edits to our page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Lisadjahed (talkcontribs) Lisadjahed (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Hello, Lisadjahed. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Elliott Museum, you may need to consider our guidance on conflicts of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. There is no such thing as "our page". --Orange Mike | Talk 21:13, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to help with making the article as good as it can be. In order to avoid Conflict of Interest, please describe the changes that you'd like on the Talk page for the article. Either reply here, or click on the talk after my name at the end and reply at my page, both will work.Naraht (talk) 15:01, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for helping to update our wikipedia page. The description for the Elliott Museum is wrong, the old museum was demolished in 2010 and a new one is opening in March 2013.

After undergoing a $20 million dollar ‘green’ re-building, the new 48,000-square-foot Elliott Museum will open in March 2013. The museum, a 53-year-old Martin County institution, has undergone a major re-visioning as well. Focusing on art, history and technology, the new Elliott Museum aims to tell the rich story of the St. Lucie region, capture the spirit of innovation that has left an indelible mark on the American psyche, and celebrate the power of originality.

See our new website for additional information: www.elliottmuseum.org

Yes, but what do you want added to and deleted from the page. Please remember that this needs to be from a Neutral Point of View, so phrases like the "rich history of the St. Lucie region" should be made more neutral.Naraht (talk) 14:32, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete first section:

The Elliott Museum, located at 825 N.E. Ocean Boulevard, on Hutchinson Island near Stuart, Florida, United States, houses one of the finest collections of American antiques, decorative arts, baseball memorabilia and vintage automobiles that celebrate the Golden Age of American creativity and local and regional history.

Please replace with:

The Elliott Museum, located at 825 N.E. Ocean Boulevard, on Hutchinson Island near Stuart, Florida, United States, focuses on art, history and technology. Named after prolific inventor Sterling Elliott, the museum houses permanent collections including Model AA Trucks, early transportation, history of Stuart and surrounding regions, baseball memborabilia. In addition, the museum hosts a juried art show in the fall and a juried car show in the spring. Traveling exhibits round out the schedule.

Please delete the History section: The Elliott, as it is often called, was built in 1961 by Harmon Elliott as a tribute to his father Sterling Elliott, and on November 18, 1961, was given to the non-profit Historical Society of Martin County, which has operated it ever since. Most of the memorabilia comes from father Sterling himself. Before the donation stearling held the world record for the greatest baseball card collection in existence. Its longtime director was the late Janet Hutchinson.

In 1991, on its 30th anniversary, over 500 people gathered for the museum’s re-dedication ceremony, complete with a presentation of the Elliott tartan banner and a ribbon cutting by Lynn Elliott, great-grand daughter of Sterling Elliott, as well as an exhibition of early automobiles from the Treasure Coast Vintage Auto Club and the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association.

Over the years the museum has expanded its facilities, public programming and members. The museum is often the setting for social events and sits among the residential and business community on Hutchinson Island.

And replace with: The Elliott, as it is often called, was built in 1961 by Harmon Elliott as a tribute to his father Sterling Elliott, and on November 18, 1961, was given to the non-profit Historical Society of Martin County, which has operated it ever since. In 2010 the old museum building (often referred to as "the pink lady") was demolished and part of the old building was used as the foundation for a new museum that will open in March 2013.

References?[edit]

Thank you for posting the suggestions to my page (as well as here) I agree that it is out of date. Do you have any references from local newspapers or TV for the changes?Naraht (talk) 15:50, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also, is there any reason to delete what happened in 1991?Naraht (talk) 15:51, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1991 is fine, but not really important.

Suggestion to add COI note.[edit]

Presuming that your user name is your first and last names merged together (which is just fine, most people just choose to not make it that obvious. :) ), you may want to add to your user page that you are Marketing Director for the Elliott Museum. With WP:COI, things go more smoothly when the user indicates their conflict of interest.

Oh great, didn't know. will change!
