A tag has been placed on FOLS, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. A tag has been placed on Fiber optics LAN Section, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Cquan (talk, AMA Desk) 19:44, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Fiber to the Telecom Enclosure, by 195.137.30.238 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Fiber to the Telecom Enclosure is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Fiber to the Telecom Enclosure, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:13, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Multimode Fiber contribution[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you completely eliminated the contributions that we made to the multimode fiber section, stating partial copyright violation of materials from the Fiber Optics LAN Section. Those edits were made on behalf of the FOLS because the information that is currently published is woefully out of date and technically no longer accurate. The information provided by the FOLS is devoid of promotion and is technically completely accurate. It was reviewed and edited by staff at Corning Incorporated, OFS, Berk Tek, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave, Draka Comteq, Superior Essex, Tyco Electronics, CommScope, the Fiber Optics Association, and the Telecommunications Industry Association.

Can you please explain to me why the revised copy cannot stand as it was written?

Thanks,

Liz Goldsmith, TIA Fiber Optics LAN Section Lizgo 17:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The footer on that site says "© 2007 Telecommunications Industry Association", with no specific license given. As stated on the top of the Wikipedia:Copyright problems page, you should either:
  • Make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en at wikimedia dot org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation.
Without that, we have no way of knowing if you are allowed to post the content here under the GFDL. --cesarb 23:52, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for explaining the process. I will have the TIA attorney send an email on Monday expressly permitting the use of the text.
