Vandalism warning

Thanks for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has been removed or reverted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. **Ko2007** 22:20, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. I received you vandalism warning, and I don't know why. I was trying to fix the article about Narcissa and the Malfoy Family (at that point, Narcissa was merged to the family article). I arranged the references and only removed some stuff that was repeated from the Malfoy family article. My intention was never to vandalise or experiment with the article. Greetings. Lord Opeth 01:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I apologize **Ko2007** 01:53, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Minor wizard edits

I was curious as to where you found the character template that you were using in this edit. Parts of it have since been removed as unnecessary. I ask because it might useful to go to the source and keep it from re-occurring. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 19:28, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

User page pictures

Hello, I noticed you have several pictures on your user page, including Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, ER, and DBZ. All of these pictures are fair use and cannot be used on user pages. Please remove them. See here for more information. Thanks. Stormin' Foreman 05:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

I wanted to point out that the addition of Gellert to Minor Wizards was handled particularly well. Excellent job at moving and trimming. :) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 06:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Igor Karkaroff

It's good that you merged Igor Karkaroff (I had been toying with the idea myself); but along the way you dropped all the sourcing references (specific chapters in whicch certain events occur), and also dropped the physical description. That perhaps was a bit overzealous, particularly the former. Or perhaps you attempted a cut-n-paste and the references did not go through? If so, I can tell you how to put them back in for the future. Certainly, Karkaroff plays a much larger role than, say, Dolohov, and as such he might perhaps deserve a bit more information (since he probably does not deserve a full-fledged page). Saludos, Magidin 02:48, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I see that you moved the description up and interspersed it with other info. Sorry about claiming you dropped it. I added back the sourcing references, however. Magidin 02:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Harry Potter edits

You sure you know what you're doing? All the moving you're doing is creating a lot of double redirects. I hope you're going to fix them all. Also, you might want to note you entirely removed creatures from the Harry Potter template. By the way, is the Harry Potter WikiProject aware of your actions? You may wish to alert them. GlassCobra 21:04, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Metroid

You are doing a really great job of merging what we have decided upon merging at the HP wikiproject. Could you do me an enormous favor? There is a big merger of Metroid related stuff here Talk:Universe_of_the_Metroid_series#Merge. It should be a quick merge, but I am not confident about it. You may earn a barnstar from me if you do! :) Judgesurreal777 21:56, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, the Chozo are an ancient race that are related to Samus Aran, who opposed the Metroids and whose civiliation has died out. Zebes was a planet that was a frequent site of activity in the games, and the Galactic Federation is the planetary government that hires Samus as a bounty hunter to go fight the Space Pirates and stop them from using metroids to destroy them....that help? :) Judgesurreal777 22:14, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Fantastic, thank you so much! Judgesurreal777 00:30, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
The Minor Barnstar
For your tremendous help with the Metroid Series, I award you this Minor Cleanup Barnstar', an award very dear to my heart, which I bestow to you. Judgesurreal777 00:32, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Gellert Grindelwald

Can you fill me in as to what you're doing with the Grindelwald page? We had a lengthy AfD discussion about it over the summer, and the result was no consensus, which means the page stays as is for now. Is there something I'm missing? JNF Tveit 00:41, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

The whole purpose of the AfD discussions is to decide what to do with articles that are points of contention. This is to see if there is some sort of consensus among editors so that no small group of editors and no individuals can tyrannically and with bias run Wikipedia. This is a policy that must be followed. JNF Tveit 03:19, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Double redirects

It's not completely necessary to fix all these double redirects if you want to save some time, as a bot comes along and automatically fixes them within a day or so. – Basar (talk · contribs) 21:38, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Diggle

I stand corrected. But I implore you to use edit summaries more often. It looked to me that you merely deleted him from a page without moving mention of him anywhere, so I (without really thinking about it) grabbed a few little bits of info about him from what you removed and stuck it where it seemed most appropriate. Obviously, I made a mistake, but it could have been avoided if you left a note saying where he was already (correctly) mentioned. Cheers, faithless (speak) 21:59, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

No problem. Since I know you're a responsible editor I usually don't bother checking your edits. But it would be nice to have some idea what you've done without having to click on the edit. And it might help me not make a fool of myself. :) faithless (speak) 10:18, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Metroid fame

Remember that metroid article you put together for me and I gave it a barnstar? Well good news, its famous, at least until it gets deleted. :) Judgesurreal777 21:41, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Redirects

Hey Opeth, re: the redirects you've made of HP articles to Dumbledore's Army members, what do you plan to do with the characters from those pages which were not DA members (i.e. Romilda Vane)? Will you add them to Minor Harry Potter characters? Cheers, faithless (speak) 20:02, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

My mistake, I see you've already done this. :) faithless (speak) 20:08, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
As well, i would very much like to see the Discussion and resulting consensus that prompted this out-of-the-blue redirect. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 00:07, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Me too, as there are characters being left out at this moment. Chandlertalk 03:06, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
I appreciate you getting back to me with your reasoning. While I think you can easily make a strong case, it is my feeling that you need to make this argument yet again, and a bit stronger. I can appreciate that you posted something and no one responded, and you made the change you proposed - I did very much the same thing with the infobox categories myself. However,I discussed it, and kept mentioning it until I heard from at least two other editors who agreed that the edits needed to be done. It was only then that I made the edits.
I would suggest that you re-initiate a dialogue in the Harry potter Wikiproject, and discuss what you are trying to accomplish. I think that because your reasons are sound, you should have no real problems getting consensus. The only mistake you made here - to my own reckoning, understand - is that you went ahead and made the edits without getting a consensus first. Let's try out the new post int he wikiproject, and see where that gets us, okay? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 05:50, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

This is getting frustrating, Opeth. Please do not reintroduce your redirects until people have finished weighin n on your proposal. Please wait. I spent the better part of an hour resterday undoing them, and I would prefer to not have to do it more than once - please revert back the DA redirects until discussion is complete. In the future, don't do this mass revert stuff without getting solid consensus to do so. It makes people suspect that you are not acting in good faith, and I have to admit that I am starting to wonder that myself. For reasons unknown, you didn't bother to open the discussion of the topic in the Harry Potter wikiproject, where it would have been far more relevent. Please discuss. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 04:36, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I can see where there were some communication break-downs, and some of them were mine. Indeed, you have done everything tha ti have asked. I wasn't clear about you posting the idea anew in the Harry Project Discussion page, and I read something sinister into your placing the conversation away from that page. I appreciate4 you taking the correct steps, and i am sorry for not AGF, Opeth. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:07, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Dark Wizards

I agree, your draft is a much stronger article than the two seperate. I think also that the article has a fair chance of getting references through interviews with the actors and Rowling, and making this one a Good article. Great job! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:10, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

HP character pages

Hey Opeth, sorry for the delayed response. I generally agree with you that we're just about at the right number of articles. I feel like we could do without at least Ghosts (Harry Potter), but like you said, the magical creatures article is quite big already. Oh, and thanks! :) faithless (speak) 01:57, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking that in the Magical Creatures article we can talk about the three divisions of creatures: "beasts" (there's already a full list), "beings" (we can maybe move the information about centaurs refusing the term and the list of beings like veelas, dementors, etc.) and "spirits", and place there the information about ghosts' characteristics. The Hogwarts Ghosts section (which was once an individual page) can be placed in the Hogwarts staff article, and maybe move Myrtle and Peeves to Minor characters.
I made this two drafts:

Barnstar

The Special Barnstar
I am not a Harry Potter editor (I just have some articles watchlisted), but I am impressed how you as a major contributor are peacefully improving the topic through merging. Two thumbs up. – sgeureka t•c 08:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar'd!

The Order of Merlin (Third class)
The Order of Merlin, the WikiProject Harry Potter Barnstar, is awarded by faithless (speak) to Lord Opeth for the hard work and dedication shown to the Harry Potter project, and for doing a lot of thankless, gnomish type work.

Hi there! You are admin that protected the Minor HP characters from editing until January the 14th. It is already 14th. Could you please remove the protection? Thank you :) --Lord Opeth (talk) 02:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

The protection is removed automatically at the time shown in the article's edit history. That time was 17:01, January 14, about twelve hours ago. You or I or anyone else can remove the protection template still at the top of the article. Otherwise, a bot should be removing the template momentarily. -- tariqabjotu 04:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Dr carter.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dr carter.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Hagrid

If the article is about Hagrid, why are the actors mentioned at all? Like you said, there's a cast member page. Grsz 11 05:35, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

My thought was that Bayfield may actually appear as Hagrid more than Coltrane, as he is used for his size. This is how he was used as a teenager, as it's Coltrane's voice still. Grsz 11 22:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

MuggleCast

You just merged 23KB of information. That's a lot of information. Part of me says that we need to kill most of it. Do we really need biographical blurbs on every person and a list of every segment that appears on that podcast? Or such detail on the April Fool's jokes? I dunno, alarm bells are going off, and I'm tingling. WP:NOT#IINFO, WP:NOT#FAQ all come to mind. hbdragon88 (talk) 03:33, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

HP template

After Harry Ron and Hermione left Care of Magical Creatures Hagrid's role declined rapidly. I think Ginny is a main character because of who she is. In the last two books she's probably more important than Hagrid and Draco. Guy0307 (talk) 10:08, 3 May 2008 (UTC) The word is important, not appearences. OK, Draco is more important, but I can't agree about Hagrid. Ginny had a very important appearence in the Burrow, while Hagrid had a minor role at the start and a medium role at the end. I mean, does it really matter who carries Harry? Guy0307 (talk) 22:39, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Removing content on House pages

I've reverted the content giving a brief summary of the Harry Potter houses on Hogwarts#Houses as you shouldn't have to read another article to get a brief overview, this is consistent with other Wikipedia articles (e.g. University#Medieval_universities) and doesn't significantly increase the length of the article.

Of course if you can summarise the work into less words, or edit it so it isn't just the introduction to the Houses article itself you are more than welcome as far as I'm concerned Eraserhead1 (talk) 12:27, 15 May 2008 (UTC).

Image copyright problem with Image:Cediggory.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cediggory.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --07:17, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Order of the Phoenix (organisation) leader

Hi, saw you updated the Headquarters to a better format, I was just gonna ask what you think of the Leader part. I don't know if this is to "in-universe" but perhaps changing it to Albus Dumbledore (until his death) or just to Albus Dumbledore and remove "Unknown thereafter" as we don't know (unless it said something about Kingsley Shacklebolt leading), or it might never have been another leader. Similar as it is in Death Eater where its only Voldemort (even though that situation is a bit different) — chandler — 17:02, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Dear Lord Opeth, I am flattered and humbled and pleased to have my efforts noticed, let alone rewarded. It is most generous of you to take the time and trouble to do so. I love Wikipedia and applaud the efforts of those who take the time to contribute to this project. At present I do not have the time I would like to contribute to content. I would like to say to those who DO make the content available, "Look, don't worry if you can't spell or bother about typos or commas, YOU do the hard work, and I'll tidy up." At present, I am focused on Harry Potter, but I do have other interests and will address those as I come to them. Thank you for your very kind acknowledgment of my small contributions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Proxxt (talkcontribs) 11:53, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Good work!

You have done fantastic work on the harry potter articles, and I encourage you to keep it up. Especially what you have begun, which is the consolidation of many of the articles that aren't notable on their own, and then getting them to GA nominees. If you started that, we should soon have a project filled with GA's. Great job! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:58, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I updated the article index, I think that many things other than the fictional stuff of harry potter has notability questions, such as the wizard rock groups and their albums. You can go the route of either merging Harry and the Potters albums articles into a List article discography, or try to delete it. Also, you should feel comfortable about cutting some of the articles on the index from our jurisdiction, since some of them are a bit far afield from Harry Potter. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:08, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Great work cutting those two articles from our jurisdiction. Just so you know, to do it officially, remove the Harry potter wikiproject banner from their talk pages and remove them from the article index. Thanks! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:07, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

HP

Hey Opeth, yeah I'll have a look at the notability discussion. I'm just stopping by to let you know why I reverted your recent edits to List of Harry Potter characters. The one about Cadmus Peverell - we do know that the Gaunts (and by extension Voldie) are descended from the Peverells, and since they end up with Cadmus's Resurrection Stone, that seems a pretty strong implication that they are his descendants. While I don't know if it's ever been specifically stated, I think that's enough proof (just my opinion). As for the Edgar Clogg character, he actually is a character from one of the video games. By your edit summary I didn't know if you thought he was just something sneaked in there or what. Now whether we should list characters who only appear in video games is another matter; feel free to remove him if you don't think we should, I won't argue that. Just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. Cheers, faithless (speak) 21:17, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

They are part now of the Harry Potter universe article, but only those with real-world notability (the chocolate frogs, the all flavours, etc.) remained, to avoid having crufty lists. --Lord Opeth (talk) 19:45, 7 July 2008 (UTC) Copied from User talk:80.175.250.218

Elder Wand

Hello, just wanted to ask why my image of what I stated to be a replica of the Elder Wand, as depicted in Jo Rowling's Beedle book, is any less canon than those shown in the films - after all, Jo Rowling hasn't said that the wand depicted in the films is what she imagined it to look like. I've actually spent a lot of time and effort trying to make sure than my replica is as close as can be got to looking like the images from the book - down to the cracks in the bark on the handle.

I've also noticed, looking at the history of the page in question, that you've assumed some kind of authority over the page. Simply being a Harry Potter fan doesn't give you authority, not unless you've been given it because you have shown significant expertise on it or something. As far as I have seen, you have reverted edits by several people, some of them completely pertinent.

I am going to replace the image on the page, as there is no reason for it to not be there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marktuson (talkcontribs) 21:19, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks and yea, the col for book1 was wider, I think because the template I used for multiple columns didn't stretch all the way out to the sides and was aligned to the right. I just hope it works well, and break in good places with lower resolutions — chandler — 23:27, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: Harry Potter articles and nobility

Hey Lord Opeth! I hope you're doing well. As you may have noticed, I've been fairly inactive on WP lately. My edits have been sporadic, and, when they exist, rather unsubstantial, usually to fix formatting or grammar. I'll try and pop into the discussion soon, but as real life takes over, it may be hard. I really appreciate your asking me and I will do my best to stand up for what I think is best for the project. Thanks again!! --Fbv65edeltc // 03:26, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Slytherincrest.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. --Geniac (talk) 16:03, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

A plea from WikiProject Media franchises coordinator

Dear Lord Opeth...I am writing today to ask for your participation in WikiProject Media franchises. You seem to have some interest in it, since you took the time to stop by and discuss the naming convention. It is just Emperor and me at the moment, and we could really use some additional editors to help us get articles identified as ones for the projects attention and assessed as such or written from scratch. Even if your only involvement is to keep an eye on what we are doing as a liaison from another project, that would be extremely helpful. I do not know everything there is to know about all the naming conventions, infoboxes, etc from the other projects, so I would love to have a core group of editors to help me coordinate this better. So, if you are willing to spend a little time with this project and help me figure out just how far and wide this project could, should, or would be; I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you. LA (If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page.) @ 07:51, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the invitation, LA. I will join the WP as a liaison from the WP Harry Potter, as almost all my edits are to articles under the scope of the WPHP. Greetings! --LøЯd ۞pεth 18:17, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
