LCC elections 1889, 1892

I think that there is some merit in following the presentation of UK constituency results elsewhere on wikipedia. The format I used for 1922 sought to use the most common format. Too much additional information, though interesting can give a confusing impression.

I have been giving further thought to the adding of other articles about LCC elections and feel that it would be a shame if the work you did on the first two elections were not to be uploaded to wikipedia. I can understand that you might not want to go through the process of re-formatting this work. Perhaps it would be a good idea (initially) to specifically create those pages and include a direct link to the results on your London website. You never know, someone may come along in a couple of years time and decide to re-format them for you. I intend to complete the 1913 election results and I have also been working on the 1910 elections which I plan to upload soon. I don't know why I have chosen to work through these backwards. I don't have any results for 1925 onwards, apart from a few from 1937, so can't help there. I think work needs to be done to increase the links to these pages. I may systematically go through the members own wikipedia pages adding the relevant LCC bits to their political career as often this has been overlooked. Graemp (talk) 17:35, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

H Humfrey Edmunds

Hi Loz, He is LCC member listed for 1925 in Hackney Central. The Times 6/3/1925 lists him as Humphrey H Edmonds. I have no other sources to check so thought it best to flag this with you.Graemp (talk) 13:13, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Just checked in Achievement by W Eric Jackson, where he is listed as "Humfrey Edmunds". Clearly some more research needed... Lozleader (talk) 13:18, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
I think he may be Humfrey Henry Edmunds (1890-6 April 1962), barrister and sometime Recorder of Bath, who has an obituary in The Times on 7 April 1962. Obit does not mention the LCC though.Lozleader (talk)

1901 Independents

I've just IDed Walter Leaf. His running mate, Dr JF Little was Dr J. Fletcher Little whose name mistakenly appeared on a published Progressive list of candidates. I was wondering if he is the same person as James Little who was co-opted in 1916 but can't confirm from my sources.Graemp (talk) 14:28, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

They're listed as distinct individuals in Achievement, which usually seems to get these things correct. James Little was described as a barrister on his co-option (The Times, 31 May 1916, p.5), no reference to him being a doctor so different people I'd say.Lozleader (talk) 14:43, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
It appears Dr Fletcher Little of 32 Harley Street was the (unsuccessful) Liberal candidate at Oxford at the 1895 general election. He subsequently led a delegation of residents of Marylebone who met with the president of the Board of Trade in January 1900 to complain about the state of electric lighting in the parish. His name was "mentioned" as the Liberal candidate at Marylebone East at the 1900 g.e. but he didn't go forward. At the first Metropolitan Borough elections in 1900 he wrote to The Times in connection with candidates in Marylebone nominated by the "Non Political Union", "for the interests of Marylebone... not limited to the policy of either the Progressive or Moderate party".Lozleader (talk) 14:54, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
And the good doctor was elected to Marylebone Council in 1903 as non-political councillor supporting an electric lighting scheme. He appears as John Fletcher Little. He also stood for the LCC election in 1907 as an independent. He seems to have died in 1916, holding the office of Medical Officer for Harrow.Lozleader (talk) 15:06, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

The detail we have found amounts to more than you would find in many wikipedia biography starts. I think you have earned the right to create it. The only additional information I have found is that the Illustrated London News (March 1901) carries a portrait of him with a caption indicating him as a Progressive. However, I assume they were referring to the Progressive list, unless he subsequently took the Progressive whip which I don't think was the case. Not sure he really meets the notability guidelines for Wikipedia. I threw a few facts down here [2] where there aren't really any rules about inclusivity! Incidentally I might make an alphabetical list of LCC members there or in my userspace based on "Achievement" so we can sort the namesakes and nearly namesakes and name changers. (Some of them became baronets or peers or women members have different married names).Lozleader (talk) 11:58, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
I have created about 90 new wikipages on individuals and am yet to have one challenged for lack of notability. My own guideline is that if an individual has an entry in Whos Who or the ODNB, then they are sufficiently notable. Graemp (talk) 15:21, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Women and the LCC

hi Loz, I've been glancing through our LCC pages and think we have overlooked describing the electorate. There is reference to the status of women as candidates on London Wiki, but that is about it. I have been trying to research when women were first given the vote. I know that they had the vote in 1907, the year when they were first allowed to take their seats, but thought that they might have got it earlier than this and wondered if you knew the answer.   • "The County Electors Act, 1888... extended the burgess qualification (ie occupation of premises and payment of rates) used for municipal elections to persons occupying premises in counties, subject to residence within seven miles of the county (fifteen miles for the County of London)... Single women possessing the qualification were entitled to vote.
  • "The Local Government Act 1894... gave the vote not only to single women who were qualified but also to married women who were qualified (ie by occupancy) although a husband and wife could not be qualified in respect of the same property and in practice few married women were qualified."

Thanks. It's pretty frustrating... I have made unblock requests but there doesn't seem to be much happening (well it is Sunday???) but it's reaching the point where I find I am blocked from editing *EVERY TIME* I try to add something to Wikipedia, and have to go through a tedious process. Also the current block was originally showing as ending this evening but is now extended into tomorrow afternoon. It appears the editor who has brought the ban down upon me (they seem to have the same ISP as me) has been banned indefinitely which I'm concerned may mean the end of me on Wikipedia! I was advised before to apply for IPBE but this was turned down. I don't know what else to do, this talk page is the only place I can edit now... :-( Lozleader (talk) 15:11, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

I have lifted the autoblock, but evidently there is a danger it will come back. The reason that the autoblock keeps coming back, even after it was due to end, is that Tupolevjet keeps on trying to edit through the block, and re-triggering the autoblock. I can't imagine why he/she keeps doing that: by now he/she must have found that it doesn't work. You say that IPBE was turned down. Can you tell me who turned it down? Please post me a note about that on my talk page, or in an email if you are blocked again. If you can let me know who turned it down, I will see whether I can consult that person and see if there is a case for giving you IPBE now. Alternatively, if for some reason you can't put me in touch with that person, I can ask a CheckUser to look into the case.
