You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.

Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.

Play in your user area. For example, create User:Luckyslugnuts/test.

Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup.

When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Overlinking[edit]

Hi... I've seen some edits you've done to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Text and Conversation Theory. I think you might be 'over-linking' a bit in the article. :) It's not necessary to link every word in the article. You might find this page on overlinkiing helpful. Also, when linking to a Wikipedia page, you want to be sure that you're not linking to a 'disambiguation' page. For example, in the first paragraph of the article, the word text is linked, but the link goes to a disambiguation page - text can mean different things in different contexts. What you should do is find the appropriate page in wikipedia and link to that (perhaps, in this case, literary work . The structure then is: [[literary work|text]]. This will display the word 'text' but link to literary work. Finally, the practice in Wikipedia is to link only the first occurring of a word. If you want to link the word 'organization' to its Wikipedia page, you should only do it once, when it first appears. That just makes it easier for the reader. :) Have fun editing! Thanks for the feedback - suspected that may be the case, but this is the first article I've worked and was under the impression more is better. Appreciate the redirect and additional guidance re/ the disambiguation page.

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:James renwick taylor.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:James renwick taylor.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

License tagging for File:Textandconversation.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Textandconversation.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
