Archiving

I'd like to suggest setting up automatic archiving for this page, given the large volume of AfD notices and well wishes. I would also ask that sections be archived neutrally; right now it seems that deletion notices are being archived almost immediately while personal messages, barnstars, etc are being left in place. –dlthewave ☎ 01:41, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Maybe dont 1-click archive other people's talk pages? Since you're placing things in /Archive 1 when he is actually on /Archive 61? Or maybe let people he's friends with handle this? Since we arent in the business of policing other's user talk pages? nableezy - 04:06, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Good point, I saw someone else had used OneClickArchiver here and assumed that it worked properly. I'll just do it manually in the future.

I'm not sure what you mean by letting Lugnuts' "friends" handle this or the bit about policing; it seems like a simple housekeeping matter that can be done by any editor, and I suggested automatic archiving as a way to avoid conflicts and manage page length. –dlthewave ☎ 04:56, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

There was a massive talk page previously. There's no reason to remove everything - it's been suggested that it's good manners to not leave AfD notifications and the like here here, but other than that I don't see a need to archive this for at least six months. I've never heard of not leaving AfD notices for banned users, I think most of us use Twinkle and don't always even notice who the article creator was or what their current standing is. Plenty of banned/retired users have very long talk pages for this reason and it doesn't seem to be an issue. My main concern is that we shouldn't be archiving AfD notices and leaving the barnstars. Archiving everything automatically would be one way to do this (six months seems fine) and simply leaving everything would be another. User:Ritchie333/Don't template the retirees is applicable to this situation I think. Yes, I know Lugnuts' "retirement" was enforced but it's the same principle. And we can ask anyone sending lots of articles to AfD to make sure they do that. I have no problem manually archiving any that get accidentally sent here. If Lugnuts objects to us doing that then I'm sure they can make that known in some way. It seems reasonable to leave everything else for at least six months, depending on how much builds up. When the whole Neelix debacle was ongoing I believe a dedicated archive page just for deletion notices was created to keep the talk page from being completely insane. I just thought I'd mention that I have worked with editors cleaning up a lot (hundreds, maybe thousands) of Carlossuarez46's geo-stubs, mostly via PROD and some via AFD, and they do uncheck the "Notify editor" box on Twinkle when they tag the articles so that his User talk page isn't plastered with deletion notices. It works best when there are a limited number of editors addressing the problem, in Carlos' case, I think there are about a half dozen editors over past year and a half handling these stubs. If lots of editors are going to try to "clean up" Lugnuts stubs, then it will be difficult to create a standard response to them but when there are a few that understand the situation and are committed to going through large areas of stubs, it's easier to establish a reasonable practice.

I should just add that I feel strange bringing this up on Lugnuts own talk page but that's where this discussion is happening. It would be useful to move this elsewhere. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 07:51, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

• UPDATE: I've been manually moving over XfD template to Archive 62 for some time (the last archive). Others should feel free to do the same. This makes them accessible but not flooding the talk page. This is due to the sheer volume of them now and in the future, and just out of basic respect, while allowing anyone who wants to view the list to do so from a dedicated page. Undoing a seemingly fair contribution without explanation

You "reverted" my edit (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Archibald_(cyclist)&diff=1079744339&oldid=1079435629) without explanation or edit summary. I can only presume that it was done due to the subject matter, Pro Vision Scotland, not existing, but "red links" to articles that don't (yet) exist do not go counter to Wikipedia's manual of style--au contraire (refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking#What_generally_should_be_linked). Judging by the other topics on this talk page and your contribution history, you seem to have ceased activity on Wikipedia but I was baffled enough to leave this here to give you the opportunity to explain your reasoning in case you ever come back.

Please atleast semi protect the article Umran Malik. The athlete in article belongs to a controversial area between India and Pakistan ie Jammu and Kashmir, so many a times people intentionally edit article with wrong information like this[1]. In past, we have already seen many controversies between Indian Government & Wikipedia for ip edits on Wikipedia, like in case of Arshdeep Singh[2].
