Bethpage High School Masquer's Guild[edit]

Information about a school's extracurricular activities belongs on the article for the school. The Masquer's Guild should almost certainly not have its own article. Unless there's something extraordinary, like widespread national news coverage of the drama club, information about the club properly belongs on the school's article, and should not have its own. Let me know if you have any questions. --Hyperbole 21:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia policy is that a subject must be notable to have an article. If only a couple hundred people know about something, it's almost impossible that a good article will be written about it, because it won't be subject to enough informed peer review. High schools are generally considered notable; middle schools and elementary schools are usually not. Anything smaller than a high school, like a club or extracurricular activity of a high school, is almost never notable. We can take this to the larger Wikipedia community and have them discuss whether the Bethpage High School Masquer's Guild article should be deleted, but I can guarantee you in advance that the consensus would be to delete it. As to who I am, I'm a Wikipedian. We look at recent changes and random articles to help improve the quality of Wikipedia. --Hyperbole 21:31, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. The article has been submitted to AfD, where the community will decide whether to keep or delete it. You're welcome to argue your case there. Go here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bethpage High School Masquer's Guild --Hyperbole 22:08, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protecting Bethpage High School[edit]

What you're asking for is for Bethpage High School to be semi-protected. You should read Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy. You can request semi-protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection, but I consider it unlikely that the request will be granted in this case; the policy makes it clear that semi-protection should not be used "as a preemptive measure against vandalism before any vandalism has occurred." In a nutshell, there are probably students and alumni who want to make constructive edits to the page, and we don't want to block them as potential vandals. Unfortunately, high school articles undergo a lot of vandalism, and the only real way to deal with that is to add them to your watchlist and check in from time to time to make sure they haven't been vandalized. I personally have several high schools from my area on my watchlist so I can edit out garbage like "McQueen sucks! Kate was here!" --Hyperbole 19:28, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Thesimpsons-seasons1-5.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Thesimpsons-seasons1-5.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Auditorium 5.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Auditorium 5.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 14:26, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Bhsbanner.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Bhsbanner.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MBisanz talk 04:27, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Jfkbanner.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Jfkbanner.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
