Color theory[edit]

In this edit back in 2006, you added some stuff about complementary colors that persists to this day. It would be good to know if there's a source for the particular complementary colors you named, and if they do really correspond to someone's model for paint/pigment mixing. What can you tell us? In particular, these bits:

According to traditional color theory, which is derived from paint mixtures, yellow mixed with purple, scarlet mixed with blue, or magenta mixed with green, produce an equivalent gray and are the painter's complementary colors. These contrasts form the basis of Chevreul's law of color contrast...

I've never heard of magenta in a paint-based system, where the complement of green is usually red; and blue's complement is traditionally orange; is this Chevreul's model? If so, we should cite a source about it. Dicklyon (talk) 20:16, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
