A tag has been placed on Ed Remson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Talkpage; definitely talkpage. The userpage is for the new editor to create and edit, not us. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:53, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Signature

Hiya. I am not getting at you. I am trying to help. I see it has been mentioned a few times. I made you a legal version that should be short enough to fit (you'll have to add the date using the forth tilde though (also templates (not just images) aren't allowed). M Magister Scientatalk Pretty close. You might want to change a few things of course. You can simply delete it and tell me to "typically metal device used for fixing materials to each other using principals devised by Archimedes" myself if you like. I'm really just trying to help. fgtc 03:44, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

I see what your saying, and I do appreciate the concern, but I've taken great care to make sure my signature works 100% of the time and that it isn't obtrusive. Also, through my many correspondences with admins recently, none have had an issue with it. Nonetheless, I will reevaluate the contents of my signature Again thanks..  Magister Scientatalk (6 November 2011)
That is entirely up to you. I have no issue with using images at all. Consider my suggestion a possible fall-back in case you ever need one. Until then I would carry on using your present one. very classy it is too. Great work with getting the IP version of Welcome-to-Wikipedia up and running so fast by the way. Is really coming along nicely! fgtc 13:36, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
Good to hear. Cheers!  Magister Scientatalk (6 November 2011)

A tag has been placed on Magister Scienta, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 23:01, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Images aren't allowed in signatures. There are some css hacks somewhere you can use to make a "fake circle", rather than an image. →Στc. 08:19, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

AIV report declined

Thank you for making a report about User:Xcrorun (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, it appears that the editor you reported may not have engaged in vandalism, or the user was not sufficiently or appropriately warned. Please note there is a difference between vandalism and unhelpful or misguided edits made in good faith. If the user continues to vandalise after a recent final warning, please re-report it. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 23:45, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Creating redirects from mainspace to your user page as you did at Magister Scientais is explicitly disallowed by Wikipedai policy Please remember that Wikipedia is not a social networking site. Avoiding errors such as this helps everyone understand the intention of your edits (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). Thank you. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:17, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Oops! I just realised who you are. I think you just shot yourself in the foot ;) Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:27, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

No, I didn't shoot mysel in the foot. I created the redirect because there clearly won't ever be a page called Magister Scienta and I wanted to make it easier for other editors to get tom e me for editorial questions.  Magister Scientatalk (9 November 2011)
I fully appreciate that you may not have been aware of this strict policy - some of our most important policies are neither evident nor easy to find. Don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page for help or advice on anything at any time. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:53, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Well said. I apologize for any mistakes I may have made and I hope that this will not impair our future editorial relationship. Thank you.  Magister Scientatalk (10 November 2011)

Speedy deletion declined: William MacNeely

Hi Magister Scienta. Just to let you know, I didn't think this article ought to be speedily deleted; I also added a reference. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:44, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

Got it.  Magister Scientatalk (10 November 2011)

Sorry, declined your speedy on that. You can't A7 a fictional character. You can do other things to them, but not that one. It's a real publisher, too, not self-publishing. Could be notable. Peridon (talk) 18:33, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I suppose you're right. I couldn't figure out the right tag. Sorry about that.  Magister Scientatalk (13 November 2011)

Welcoming committee

Hi MS. Your work on page patrolling and your contributions to the welcoming project are thoughtful and commendable. Your ideas for templates that address younger users are excellent and I'm sure they'll go down well if they are used - we most certainly do need to encourage young users to feel at home here and to make good edits and reasonable new pages. However, a lot of them don't - but that doesn't mean they are all vandals. You've patrolled 32 pages; I've patrolled around 10,000 and physically deleted over 1,500 of them. I see what arrives here, and around a quarter of those deletions are from kids who are writing silly stories à la FaceBook about their friends or about themselves. Those stories aren't vandalism in the true sense, but unfortunately, we make it too easy for anyone to create pages here, and that's why New Page Patrol is so important. I've been a member of the welcoming committee for a long time, and I've designed some welcome templates too - and I certainly share the opinions of those who agree that welcome template for different kinds of users is a very good idea. However, it's not always easy to know how old new users are, especially if they haven't made a user page, so we really need to be very careful whom we give which templates to. If we don't, it's best to play safe and use a neutral one. Keep the ideas coming, and please help out on NPP as much as you can :) Happy editing!--Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:14, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Understood. Thank you for such a warm message and I hope to continue working with you (and the rest of the Welcoming committee) to improve Wikipedia. Cheers,  Magister Scientatalk (14 November 2011)

Signature again

It's been over a week since I asked you to remove the image from your signature, yet you still have not complied with the signature guidelines. Again, there are CSS hacks you can use to make a "fake circle". Please do something soon. →Στc. 02:07, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Can you please explain or show me some of those CSS "hacks." Thanks. -Magister
 M  for instance. →Στc. 04:07, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, can you give me a little time to perfect it before I change my sig. Thanks.  Magister Scientatalk (16 November 2011)
Is this signature acceptable? [[User:Magister Scienta| M   ]]  Magister Scientatalk (16 November 2011)
Templates are not allowed in signatures. →Στc. 00:30, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Also, please be aware that your current signature, as seen here is 491 characters long, which exceeds the established length limit of 255 characters. Please trim it down to meet the length limit. Thank you. jcgoble3 (talk) 05:20, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Removing the inline HTML comments would help. Also, it's appreciated if you could include the timestamp, not just the datestamp, in your comments. I don't know if it's policy or not, but IMO it probably should be to include the timestamp, because that can be important to have when following a fast-moving discussion. Gary King (talk · scripts) 14:48, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, I got rid of all the comments, deleted that date part of the signature, and it is now much slimmer. However, I believe I'm allowed to keep on substituting User:Magister Scienta/MySig per #4 of this. Thanks for helping me with the signature, cheers,  M   Magister Scientatalk 15:46, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Better, but you're still at 321 characters. You need to cut another 66 characters from it. jcgoble3 (talk) 15:52, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
How about that? As far as I can tell, there is no policy that prevents what I did.  M   Magister Scientatalk 15:57, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, there is a policy against that; transclusion of templates is prohibited. You've already been told that above. jcgoble3 (talk) 16:43, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
How about that? It is 215 characters and does not transclude a single template. Cheers,  M   Magister Scientatalk 19:56, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Still 321. It's not the amount of code on the signature template page that counts, but rather the amount of code dumped onto a talk page when you sign a comment. Your signature immediately above still contains 321 characters, which is too long. It may be the case that it is simply impossible to retain the current look of your signature without breaking the rules regarding length, templates, and images, in which case you will simply have to drop something from your signature. jcgoble3 (talk) 20:34, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
All right, if this isn't acceptable, I don't know what it is. Cheers, Magister Scientatalk 20:38, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
That's perfectly acceptable at 146 characters. Thank you for being cooperative in this. jcgoble3 (talk) 22:05, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
No problem. Thank you for your friendliness throughout. Cheers, Magister Scientatalk 23:11, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

speedy

Information Processing and Management is a journal, not a company, and thus not eligible for speedy a7 . (the company that published it is Elsevier), Additionally, it meets the notability requirements for academic journals, which is to be included in the major indexes (It is included in Journal Citation Report , which means it is automatically included in Web of Science. You might be interested in [Wikipedia:WikiProject Academic Journals]]. DGG ( talk ) 05:23, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

You're right. Sorry about that, I got a little sloppy.  M   Magister Scientatalk (18 November 2011)

I am not sure if this article belongs on wikipedia for reasons of notability - please review and decide. Standard2211 (talk) 20:49, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

In my opinion, per WP:BASIC, since this article is referenced by creditable secondary sources (e.g. New York Times) in a substantive way, this article meets notability standards and does indeed have a place in Wikipedia. This is an interesting question, and notability of people is always somewhat grey, if you disagree with me you can look for a consensus for deletion here. Thanks for asking, cheers,  M   Magister Scientatalk (18 November 2011)
