You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.

Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.

Play in your user area. For example, create User:Mahnut/test.

Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.

When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

How to comment on talk pages?[edit]

I've tried to comment on another editor's post to the talk pages, but I suspect I haven't done it correctly. What I've done in the talk pages in the section https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder#ADHD.23Medication of the article "Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder" appears on the talk page under == request for grammar edits 1 May 2014 == as:

'Also, in the section "Management", sub-section "Medication" it currently reads:

Stimulants but not atomoxetine appear to improve academic performance.[124]

This is a bit awkward as written - perhaps the "but not atomoxetine" should be in parentheses, or changed to "Stimulants other than atomoxetine..." '

I agree; as written it's not clear that the the sentence means "Stimulants, as well as atomoxetine" or "Stimulants and non-stimulants except for atomoxetine." From the Wikipedia article on atomoxetine, I gather that this drug acts like a stimulant. Can an expert review and correct the second and this sentence in this paragraph of the present article? I don't see how anyone coming to the talk section can find my comment as I've added it without knowing it's there in the first place. I must be doing something wrong. Can you point me to a tutorial about commenting on postings to talk pages? Or is it just a matter of my creating a new section at the top of the talk page with a link to the post I wish to comment on? Thanks Mahnut 23:49, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

New comments are usually added to the bottom of a section (or in a new section at the bottom of the page), not in the middle of another editor's comment. Replies also are indented (by beginning a paragraph with one or more colons, just as I did here). That makes it much easier for others to follow talk page discussions and to tell who said what. I should also note that you should sign talk page comments with four tildes (~~~~). That will by default create not just the timestamp, but also links to your user page and talk page. If you have customized your signature in the preferences, you should work on it: A signature should contain at least one link to the user page, the talk page or the contributions.
