Yogscast[edit]

I am the one who proposed the creation of an article on the Yogscast. You said to leave a comment on you talk about notablility I believe. Umm.. They're obviously all over youtube, so they can easily be proved. I do not have any other set references than ther page on youtube at youtube.com/yogscast (i believe) other than that, the minecraft forum, facebook, twitter, and yogscast.com. I see you didn't sign your comment either because you forgot to login or you don't have an account. The only one of those sources that Wikipedia will count as an actual source is Yogscast.com, and that's only just 1 source. Youtube, Facebook and other social network sites or forums won't count as sources. And while many people know who Yogscast are, they might not meet Wikipedia's guidelines for notability. When I say check for Notability, I mean check for sources outside of those sites that cover them. However, they did receive a lot of press coverage both before, during and after Minecon so maybe it isn't as hard as we think to find good sources. Did you guys end up start creating a Yogscast wikipedia entry or did? I have a few sources i though i would add. You may already gave them but every little helps. BBC article on the Yogscast by a bbc Technology correspondent [1], the kickstarter page for the game they are trying to make called the Yogventures [2], an artical from PC Gamer over the incident with notch following Minecon [3] there is an official response by the yogscast to the alegations but i can't find it at the moment, here is notches apology tweet though [4]. I know social media sites are frowned upon as a source but it is the only place i believe notch apologised. I can see how a lack of sources about the rest of their operations would be harder to come by. I only did a quick search however let me know if you want me to find/try andd find anymore sources about the yogscast. Video game stub reassessments[edit]

Hello Makhram, thanks very much for signing up to the stub assessment drive and your work. The assessment scale is not the easiest thing to get acquainted with, particularly for new users, as has been pointed out to me. There are some articles which you've processed which I'm going to re-assess, rather than just doing so and not explaining why I thought it better to give you some tips for the future. I'll go through them all just to give you some feedback. Please don't stress about this, Wikipedia is an ongoing learning experience for most of us, so I'd like you look on this as a few tips from an old fart who's been around awhile.

  • .detuned is borderline, it's the sort of article I'd leave as a stub but wouldn't re-assess as a stub if it had previously been rated as start class. This is mainly due to the lack of content, there are a few cites and a review box, as well as an infobox, so it's between the two really and could go either way. Don't worry about this one, start-class is fine (IMO), just some tips.
  • 100 Rogues is lacking in content, it's got an infobox but only consists of a handful of sentences once the reception header and unused cites are removed. I re-assessed this as a stub.
  • 101 MiniGolf World looks more expansive than it is, due to the laundry-list of obstacles found on the courses. Whenever you come across bare lists of in-game 'things' in an article (anything from levels, characters, weapons, objects, enemies etc.) then ignore them for the purposes of your assessment. Character lists are often found in plot-heavy games (role-players and the like) and are not a problem, but if they're just a list of names then they're not adding anything to the article. Things like weapons etc. would generally be removed or a handful of examples used within prose rather than left as a laundry list during article improvement. See WP:VGSCOPE (part of the vg project's editing guidelines) for examples. I've re-assessed this as a stub.
  • 102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue is definitely a start-class article, well spotted. The 5 common elements of a video game article are the lead (a summary of the article, gameplay, plot (called synopsis in this instance) if required, development and reception. Ignoring the vocal cast and level lists, there are still two healthy-sized sections, so this is start-class.
  • 10th Computer Olympiad is not a typical video game article. In its current state I'd have left it as a stub, personally, but I also wouldn't mark it down from a start if that's how it was rated. The main issue is lack of background, despite the information on individual game results. Again, don't worry about this sort of thing, if in doubt just leave it as a stub.
  • 11eyes: Tsumi to Batsu to Aganai no Shōjo I would have rated as start-class rather than C, for two reasons. One the actual 'video games' section is blank - not much use to us, two the article is lacking in references, which is a major difference between start and C-class articles. For all that it is a very strong start-class article and quite possibly one that many would rate as C. I've bumped it down to Start for the time being, just to match the anime project's ranking.
  • 180 (video game) is also a good start-class article - the opponents section isn't needed so should be ignored, but there are two other perfectly good sections. Good call.
  • 1941: Counter Attack is another start-class article which was pretending to be a stub. The content is mostly in the lead, but that's just because the writer hasn't split it off into a gameplay section; it's there regardless.
  • 1chipMSX is also definitely a start-class article.

  • I think that judging a few borderline cases and destubbing a few high-end stubs that may not fully be Start-level is a completely acceptable side-effect of being able to Stubcheck ALL STUBS. :) Salvidrim! 15:39, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for reviewing my work. I do admit, it was hard at first to decide between Stub and Start and so I tried to make articles Start if it looked like they had at least some good progress in terms of content and citations. However, it seems as though what you're saying is to leave something as a Stub if it is still missing basic information.

One thing to note: Anime/manga-related games (or otherwise games of that general genre) often have surprisingly large article because of a detailed plot, cast and/or character analysis, which is often wholly unsourced (or with a single source, often primary). Yup, that's a trend I have started to notice. My general rule of thumb is to look for multiple expanded sections of information in the article, and at least 4-5+ citations, with moderate inline citations within the sections."Makhram the Maniac" talk 18:16, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
One other thing. Drives like this Stubcheck are areas where editors can pitch in to lessen the load, but they're also labour-intensive and will ultimately become tiresome if not broken up with more interesting work. Don't feel you have to keep going at it, or do the checks you've signed up for now, it'll keep. When you're in the mood for something else find an article you're interested in, or create one, and have a break from the drudge. I struggled for a while dealing with things which I felt compelled to do rather than actually wanted to do. Having worked on a couple of articles that meant something to me personally and taken it slow for awhile, my batteries are recharged and I'm able to do this sort of thing. Hallo, while stub-sorting I've just found Agatha Christie: Evil Under the Sun to which you added a stub tag as part of the above stubhunt. I'm by no means sure it's a stub, but even if it is, please note that {{stub}} goes at the end, not the start, of an article (see WP:ORDER) (after everything except inter-language links). Also, if you are systematically adding {{stub}} to videogame articles, it would be more useful to add {{videogame-stub}}, or a more specific tag. Thanks. PamD 17:23, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
