List of best-selling albums in the Philippines

Russart is a biased Regine fan. He even edited the article to add Regine Velasquez albums that do not have credible sources. If you take a look at his contributions, he uploads Regine pictures and edits articles to include Regine Velasquez' 'achievements' to the page. He also gave me a warning when he is not even an administrator. That is a violation because he has no right to put a warning on my page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.201.127.127 (talk) 17:23, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

Looks like it indeed. Still, it's a dispute you'll try to have to settle. I know it can be trying at times. But hey, it's christmas. Who knows something good will come out of it. I'll try to keep an eye on it though. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 19:32, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
Russart 1999 keeps putting back unsourced and biased claims in the article. He keeps vandalising the pages of Regine Velasquez, Regine Velasquez discography, and List of best-selling albums in the Philippines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.201.85.147 (talk) 12:16, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

deleted page silent discotheque

Hi Martijn,

I noticed that you deleted the silent discotheque page. The reason you gave is that it was a negative text. The true facts can be negative but still they are the true facts. I would like to know how is it possible to put the information online that i did post about the silent discotheque. What for rules or guide lines do i need to follow to present the true story about the silent discotheque?

Thank you

I really would like to get the right facts about the silent disco into the wikipedia. Hope you can help me with the guide lines to follow so i can update the article over The silent discotheque. My article does not pretend to be an attack to nobody it is just meant to let people see the true facts related with this subject.
Thank you, Franzi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vibronix (talkcontribs) 19:18, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Hey Franzi, there are a lot of things to take into account. The first, and probably major hurdle is WP:TRUTH, which boils down to: wikipedia doesn't report what's not been published elsewhere, and is probably the wrong place to go to if you're looking to right wrongs. Apart from that, take a look at WP:1st which has some help in creating your first article. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 19:30, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply. When you say that wikipedia does not publish something if it wasent publish anywhere else before, does that mean that i need to publish my story in other places and then with the published material, write the article on wikipedia?
The problem here is that the people claiming to be the silent disco is their brainchild, have been working on it since 8 years. Their story is in many papers and the lie was so many times repeated that it be came a true thing. I cant possibly combat it with from my position.
I think that people should know that they are not such heroes and not the owner of such a fertile fantasy as they claim to have relating to the headphone disco.
I thought wikipedia is about facts and truth and i am presenting my facts and truth regarding this subject. I think is important that people should not be mislead and wikipedia can help restoring the true facts. How do i go about telling this story in wikipedia? franzi
Hi Franzi, to be blunt, if it hasn't been published in sources that Wikipedia considers reliable sources (see WP:RS), we can't include it. Like I said before, Wikipedia really isn't a place to right wrongs. It's just a place that tries to collect and report, in an encyclopedic way, what has been discussed in other sources. Based on that, I can't see an article on the silent discoteque comming from the ground in any way. If there are sources available that meet the criteria in WP:RS (see above), then it would likely be best to incorporate that information in the article Silent disco, keeping in mind, that weight must be given to the sources according to the prevalence of the idea. In that article it states that the first mentions came from a Finnish Sci-Fi in 1969, and the next mention is the BBC Live Music Silent Disco in 2000 (which is older then the 8 years you mention), and then popularised in Glastonbury 2005. If you can find any sources that say that there were events that were significant in the creation or evolution of silent disco, then there is probably the place it should go. Once again, let me remind you that that requires independent, more or less mainstream 3rd party sources, that describe the situation to some extent, at least more than a trivial passing. silent...

Thanks again for your reply. Thanks to your help I understand now better the way things work at wikipedia. I did read the silent disco article and know from the start how the silent disco developed to be what it is today. Guess i will try to prove my point in other places beside wikipedia when the issue comes up. That there were other people busy with the silent disco long before 9 years is a reality like the silent disco page shows. What is not true and should be correct is the false information that many people have about the silent disco concept as it is known today, being the brainchild of the co-founders of 433fm.com from rotterdam. If you read my story about it, you understand why i say so. I had no intention to rewrite the all story about the silent disco, just a small fact important fact. The co-founders of 433fm.com might have made the concept popular at Glastonbury festival and probably are now rich and famous but i dont like they spread lies and false information. I think it was enough that they copy the concept.

Thank you for all your support and good luck — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vibronix (talkcontribs) 22:16, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of Old Blue Fedora

Julian Squire (talk) 20:08, 4 January 2011 (UTC) please put it back up. I wrote it in memory of their legacy as one of the members recently passed away and he didn't want people to forget him.

Hi Julian, if you want I can restore the article in your userspace. Do you know of any articles about the group, either on or offline? It would help tremendously. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 20:12, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
I moved the article to User:Julian Squire/Old Blue Fedora Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 20:18, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Twitter Titans

Hi.

We have created a social media cricket team called the Twitter Titans and you deleted our page? Why was this done? Can you re-instae it, please? Our biggest fan made it in tribute.

Thanks.

Fran Johnson —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.169.111.27 (talk) 19:36, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Fran, the article was deleted because it didn't meet the criteria for inclusion. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 19:40, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
But it currently involves 3 English county cricketers and potentially an England International Cricketer. Does that not merit a page? Thanks. Fran Johnson. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.169.111.27 (talk) 19:51, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately, no. Notability is not inherited. The gym, grocery store, and mail delivery man of these people are not notable 'by association'. Nor does this twitter group seem to be. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 21:01, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Luke Sutton is one of the cricketers behind Twitter Titans. I believe having profession cricketers in our team merits inclusion. Callum (talk) 20:20, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't appreciate your rudeness. Your being sarcastic and it's unnecessary! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.169.111.27 (talk) 22:24, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
It was not intended as sarcasm, just as examples that notabilaty is inherited in general, nor in this specific example. The text only world of online communication is not always the best fit to show intention. Sorry for the offence. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 22:41, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Squeakbox

I have made a proposal to unblock him immediately, on the onditions you have already stated at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents/User:SqueakBox and paid editing (again). Have you any objections. Please respond there ,or email if necessary 192.76.177.124 (talk) 15:43, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm confused. Where is the proposal? Are you a logged out DGG? in case it is, the conditions I stated were him to give clear and satisfying answers to my questions, which I don't think are met, but when they are, I support an unblock. Otherwise: I can't find your proposal. I'm giving a more elaborate answer on the discussion page. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:00, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

How do you suppose you get through to this editor then? They don't use an edit summary and continue to add inappropriate, invalid terms, which have been discussed on the article talk page. It has been determined to not have them included. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (contributions) • (let's chat) 21:34, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

4im is for vandalism that has to stop right now. Defamation, BLP issues, serious profanity. This is an unresponsive editor. A warning might be appropriate, but not a 4im, and I'm unwilling to block on that ground. I'll drop a line on the talkpage of the editor to discuss her edits on talk, rather than to editwar over them. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 21:41, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (contributions) • (let's chat) 21:43, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
This user has once again added that Gwyneth is a singer. I don't know what to do. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (contributions) • (let's chat) 16:43, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi EnDaLeCoMpLeX. I have given the editor a last warning. Feel free to report to ANI, AIV, or to me if disruptive behaviour continues. There have been adequate warnings now. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 16:54, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for helping. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (contributions) • (let's chat) 16:55, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

I thought that cheese-carrying dude was a spitting image of you! Drmies (talk) 21:09, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Maybe something for your next DYK: 'That Martijn Hoekstra looks nothing at all like the left dude in the picture of the cheesemarket (nor the one on the right, for that matter (or any of those in the background (well, possibly like some of those guys in the background, I mean, there are heaps of them, and one must look vaguely similar.))'. Still: Cheeky cheeky, and thanks for improving my userpage. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 21:15, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
As a good Dutchman, I could not refrain from "improving." Later, Drmies (talk) 00:58, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
