Oh...I'm catching on now...Hi AndrewGNF. Dawn rising on Marblehead here. So I did figure out eventually how to add a new page. But unfortunately I created it with a typo in the title. See c3orf53 (not 58) for the screw up. Then I figured out how to get that changed/moved, and now I have a request in. Not urgent. I'll try more later. Hi Mary, nice start on c3orf53. You can actually move the page yourself using the "move" tab at the top of the screen at c3orf53. (Let me know if you can't see it. It's possible that newly-created accounts don't see that tab...) Yes, using {{move}} on the talk page is another way to do it, but as far as I know, there's no reason not to just do it yourself... Hi. I was reading the documentation and scouring for a move tab, but I didn't have one. Took me a while to figure that out. I couldn't do it. So that's a newbie issue--you can't fix some of your own problems. I had tried the sandbox first, and then tried to edit my personal page so that I was up to speed. Neither of those allowed me to screw up the title, though. Alas. I have some ideas what would help a newbie. Is there some central place to direct suggestions like that? Hi there, and welcome. You'll be able to move pages yourself in a few days, newly-created accounts have a few less options at the beginning. Something you'll find useful is this tool. Hi Mary, I created a redirect from MEF2 to Mef2, which is one option for accomplishing what I think you wanted to do. (to see how this is done, see [1]). Also, this edit shows how to make the displayed text different than the target page. Hope that helps... (Careful, I think you're dangerously close to getting hooked here...) Thanks Andrew. I'm going to leave that, but I'm not sure it is what I want. In the nomenclature world, MEF2 and Mef2 are two different things. And Drosophila Mef2 is another thing entirely. And the TFBS called Mef2 is a separate issue. I wasn't aware of the "family" type of pages and I'm finding it very confusing to know what to do--because there may be times when it matters if you are talking about a family that happens to have a gene name or a specific member. There is the issue of those 4 genes on that page--the data there also differs somewhat from the pages with the PBB box. The locus stuff doesn't match--Mef2a at least has locus/location in both, but Mef2b doesn't have location on one. If you do a search for Mef2a that family page doesn't come up. So you don't even know the family page exists. It also raised the larger issue of gene symbols that might be the same in different species, but represent different genes. I know there aren't many other species in right now, but if this succeeds there may be. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when.
