Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Hi there! Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and decide to stick around. If you want, you could drop us a note at Wikipedia's New User log to introduce yourself.

Before you start doing a lot of editing, it might be a good idea to take a look at the Wikipedia tutorial. It'll give you a lot of basic info that can help you to get oriented on Wikipedia.

You should sign your name on talk pages by using three tildes (" ~~~ ") to give your username, or four (" ~~~~ ") to give your username and a timestamp.

If you have any other questions about Wikipedia, you can check out the Wikipedia Help, or you could add a question to the Wikipedia Help Desk. You can also ask me questions on my talk page by clicking here. Happy editing! -- gtdp [T]/[C] 19:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects[edit]

Hi there. You have been making incorrect redirects lately. Please ensure that you use this syntax for making redirect pages:

#REDIRECT [[page name]]

At the moment you are using an asterix (*) instead of a hash (#). If you want more information, please take a look at WP:RDR. Thanks for your time. -- gtdp [T]/[C] 19:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your syntax is correct now, but you've been making double redirects; a redirect should point directly to the page. For example, C. medica and Citrus medica should both point to Citron, not C. medica pointing to Citrus medica which redirects to Citron. Just a small clarification. Keep up the good work! License tagging for Image:EPG circuit.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EPG circuit.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 14:06, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Please use edit summaries[edit]

Hello. Please be courteous to other editors and use edit summaries when updating articles. The Mathbot tool shows your usage of edit summaries to be very low:

Edit summary usage for Mat8989: 22% for major edits and 9% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 44 minor edits in the article namespace.

Using edit summaries helps other editors quickly understand your edits, which is especially useful when you make changes to articles that are on others' watchlists. Thanks and happy editing! --Kralizec! (talk) 17:17, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Big bud[edit]

A tag has been placed on Big bud requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Aiuw 22:55, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

December 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Big bud, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Aiuw 00:09, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Scelio.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Scelio.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 03:30, 2 March 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 03:30, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Evolution of multicellularity[edit]

Hi,

you restored Evolution of multicellularity from a redirect to Multicellular organism. However, I recently merged the two articles. Now, the content you restored is duplicated between the two articles. Could you please remove this redundancy, either by making the former page a redirect again, or by editing the latter page?

I merged the two pages as other taxa have their descriptions and origins on one page, e.g. Eukaryote#Origin_and_evolution.

MichaK (talk) 14:33, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Avicennasis @ 18:15, 23 Tamuz 5771 / 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the barnstar. I was just going to add Isophyllia and its species including Isophyllia sinuosa to the Mussidae page but you beat me to it by a couple of minutes. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:52, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Animal Evolution[edit]

Hello Mat8989,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Animal Evolution for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Josu4u (talk) 19:50, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
