Hi Mattbrundage, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines. First, write from a neutral point of view, second, be bold in editing pages, and third, use wikiquette. Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me at my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing ~~~~.

Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing! --Spangineer (háblame) 17:16, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Category Pop Albums[edit]

Hi. I am sure you are right about removing the category - but imagine I am dumb and explain to me in plain words why Tarkan's Come Closer album shouldn't be in the pop album category? Deff6 04:53, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help and clearing things up for me! Much appreciated. Deff6 07:16, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Schism[edit]

There is a category (which I belong to) called "Roman Catholic Wikipedians". I was wondering if you'd switch to that one, because in my eyes that is the main Catholic Category. It has dozens of users which just don't appear under the Catholic Wikipedians Category. Chooserr 21:48, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Mroszak (Crazy Cabbie)[edit]

I was happy to work on it. I was afraid I was going to get flak for moving the page from Crazy Cabbie to Lee Mroszak but I thought it was more in line with Wikipedia's policies. I goofed on Craig Gass' page today (I thought he did Evil Dave Letterman) and screw ups usually come in multiples for me. -wadems 05:15, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting Wild Dances[edit]

Can you explain to me why you performed this edit [1]? The article is about one song, as far as I can tell..what is your reason to split?SoothingR 10:01, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Although the article mentions the existence of the album, , it doesn't state anything about it. The whole article is on the song. There is simply nothing which could be put in this album-article.SoothingR 16:43, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Renaming it is unnecessary for the time being..Although, taking out the Pop albums-category is definetely a good idea.SoothingR 16:51, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

minor grammar revert[edit]

On the Raft of Dead Monkeys article you changed "Raft of Dead Monkeys was a rock band" to "Raft of Dead Monkeys were a rock band". At first glance it seems like an apropriate grammar edit, but the name of the band is still a singular clause. I hope you don't mind if I change it back, and let me know if you still think I'm wrong. Thanks for the other edits and additions.

I was using British English when referring to the band name with a plural verb. American English, however, would use the singluar in this context. So both of us are correct. Mattbrundage 15:05, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

a mistake edit[edit]

Please realize I made a mistake in my editing and I apologize [2]. I am not out to get you and I did not mean offense. Please try to assume good faith on Wikipedia. Also, there's a policy on Wikipedia called WP:CIVIL. Please read this. - File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (TCW) 04:21, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion process[edit]

Hello Matt! Are you confused? I ask because I got terribly confused myself about your nomination of the article The Wives at Articles for Deletion.

You tagged it for speedy delete and then sent it to Articles for Deletion as well. Just one needs to be done.

You also tagged it for clean-up. But if it can be cleaned up, then it isn't suitable for speedy deletion. (Generally).

In this case, you were right: it was a speedy delete (IMHO), and I speedily deleted it for you.

Your addition of it to AfD was also malformed: I'm guessing that you went to the foot of today's page, clicked [Edit] on the nomination at the bottom and added your nomination at the foot of that. It didn't work - it just broke the page. What you should have done is followed the instructions here - which includes a nice link to click on that lets you list things in the right place with one click (once you've followed the labourious other steps, of course...).

Have a read of the links in this message and you'll soon be up to speed. Don't worry about the mix-up: if you lined all of mine up end-to-end you'd have... well, the list would be horribly long, that's all I can say. :o) ➨ REDVERS 21:09, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Pi digit" userbox[edit]

Hi, I just had to rename the "Pi" userbox template to "Pi digits" (your 170 digits' memorization). Hence, I stopped by your user-page and amended the user-box list, to set right the change. Thanks. ImpuMozhi 20:22, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Album Genres[edit]

I believe in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums it says organise albums bt genre, so why are you going around removing albums from genres they belong in? Jubella 21:37, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Jubella[reply]

This excerpt from WikiProject_Albums#Categories explains it best: Category:Slayer albums is a sub-category of Category:Albums by artist and Category:Thrash metal albums, which is a sub-category of Category:Albums by genre. So, from top level to bottom level, it goes:
1. Category:Albums by genre → 2. Category:Thrash metal albums → 3. Category:Slayer albums → 4. Reign in Blood
1. Category:Albums by artist → 2. Category:Slayer albums → 3. Reign in Blood
In the first list, Reign in Blood does not go directly in Category:Thrash metal albums, but is there via the intermediate category Category:Slayer albums.
The coding example at WikiProject_Albums#Categories did not include the category Category:Thrash metal albums. It simply had Category:Slayer albums and Category:1986 albums. Also, note that Category:Slayer albums contains the category Category:Thrash metal albums, as it should.
From a maintenance perspective, placing album genre categories such as Category:Rock albums directly in artist album categories (such as Category:Oasis albums) makes sense and is standard protocol. It would be redundant to place Category:Rock albums in Definitely Maybe when it already exists in Category:Oasis albums. In a way, when you place Definitely Maybe in Category:Oasis albums, you are indirectly categorizing it as Category:Rock albums.
I hope this clears things up again. Sorry I had to revert some of your work. I do appreciate the other contributions that you've been making. ;-) Mattbrundage 05:33, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've made some changes to Category:Peter_Hammill_albums. Fine, but why, in the categories above it, is the name listed as "Hammill, The"? Shouldn't it be "Hammill, Peter"?

Thanks for correcting the typos. One more question on this whole categories thing, if I may: what if an artist makes albums in more than one genre? For example, the early work of Current 93 is industrial, while their later work is apocalyptic folk. Would it be appropriate for there to be both "albums by genre→industrial albums→Current 93 albums→[album title]" and "albums by genre→apocalyptic folk albums→Current 93 albums→[album title]"? Thanks. -Richardrj 05:01, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it would be appropriate. Many bands are listed as being in multiple genres, for example, Category:Beck albums (alternative rock and folk) or Category:The Beatles albums (rock and pop). I've seen some albums categories with as many as four music genres. Mattbrundage 12:56, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nature of the beast edits[edit]

Hi, I saw you edited the article on April Wines album (Nature of the neast). I was wondering why you removed the section about where the band recorded the album. It wasn't clear in your edit summary. The information is correct according to the bands official discography. Cheers  Errant  talk(formerly tmorton166) 11:02, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Day Has Come for you to change the disambiguation page[edit]

Hey, this is Free-encyclopedia. On the page for the Cheyenne Kimball album "The Day Has Come," you put it into the category of "Cheyenne Kimball albums." However, that is the only one she has released, and probably the only one she will release for at least a year. So I think, until her second album comes out, that category should be deleted. I'm not going to delete it myself, because I wanted to run it by you first.

By the way, respond to this on my talk page, not yours. I won't even remember your username, but I'll be checking mine. Thanks. Free-encyclopedia 01:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC) 01:16, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Over My Head (Cable Car)[edit]

Hi there. Why did you move "Over My Head (Cable Car)" to "Over My Head (Cable Car song)"? It's an MoS naming violation and makes the title more complex than it needs to be. Teemu08 04:13, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Day Has Passed - yesterday, that is, when I sent the original message[edit]

Yes, it does clear things up. Thanks.

By the way, I noticed that the message above this one references a change you made on the "Over My Head (Cable Car)" article. Interestingly, the most recent change I made (other than writing yesterday's message to you) was on that article. I changed the "Over My Head (disambiguation)" article to make it a redirect to the song by The Fray. Within a day, it was changed. I was wondering if you made a similar change because you checked my history or something, or whether it was just coincidence.Free-encyclopedia 18:48, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Voxtrot.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Voxtrot.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Article clean up/POV[edit]

Hi MAttbrundage: I noticed you did some work on the Elkie Brooks page, on the 24th April. A red 'Elkwiki' is credited on the history with the life and career text (whois Elkwiki?) which I've cleaned up by removing a number of POV statements. I'm not sure what the Wikipedia term for uncredited statements and attributes such as "considered one of the greatest female vocalists blah blah" is but that's the sort of thing I edited out. I'm just a fan who may happen to agree with the superlatives but wishes that contributors wouldn't ignore the protocol on 'unenclyclopaedic' or whatever its deemed. Anyway, if you would take a look sometime, please, I'd be grateful to know whether or not I did the right thing. I'll edit errors of spelling or grammar when I see them but content is somewhat different... Ta Plutonium27 16:42, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removing uncredited statements is sometimes okay -- it's something one has to consider on an article-by-article basis. As an alternative, you can insert {{fact}} after any uncredited statement. Or, you can insert {{weasel word}} after any claim that uses Weasel words. -- Mattbrundage 16:56, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Balloon Farm[edit]

I hope I saved this from deletion. It'll never be a lengthy article, but The Balloon Farm was an interesting one-hit wonder, including Bruce Springsteen's first manager as a member and Melanie's future husband as producer. And somehow, one of their outtakes made it to Australia and became a hit there for another artist. Cheemo 07:17, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits. The article now appears to meet notability guidelines. I'll remove the tag. -- Mattbrundage 12:59, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Cheemo 19:41, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Baird[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Dan Baird, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Dionne Warwick albums[edit]

Hi, Matt: I noticed that you edited my Dionne Warwick album pages, replacing "was" with "is". I have reverted the diction to the original, considering that (a) none of Warwick's Scepter albums are current; (b) Scepter Records is not in existence anymore; and (c) the albums have long been off the charts. Your edit is confusing to the flow of the original synopses; saying that the album "is" gives the impression that the album is current, and the youngest of these albums is over 35 years old. Respectfully submitted.. Dma124 03:17, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Imagine that you are holding in your hands a copy of Warwick's Make Way for Dionne Warwick and you are asked to describe it. You would most likely not begin with "This was...", but with "This is..." I actually own a couple of old Warwick albums and would definitely describe them in the present tense.
The age of a published work or object should not be the determinant of the tense used to describe it. For instance, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Rome, The Bible, even Stonehenge are all described in the present tense, despite all being older than Warwick's albums.
A better determinant of tense would be whether or not something or someone is still in existence. Albums in general (like many other objects) will exist in perpetuity and should be described in the present tense. Conversely, historical objects and people that no longer exist should be described in the past tense.
One more small thing... I noticed that in the first sentence of your note, you referred to the album pages as your own. -- Mattbrundage 14:03, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Matt: Thanks for getting back with me. Now that you have shown that the albums are definitely in existence, I can understand why you made the changes you did. However, I still think it's confusing to say "Make Way For Dionne Warwick" IS Dionne Warwick's third album for Scepter Records, when the album is over 40 years old.
Additionally, I referred to the album pages as mine, because I originally wrote most of them, with a few exceptions. Most of Dionne's Scepter albums were not mentioned on Wikipedia, so I created the synopses for all to enjoy and edit if necessary. I have all of Dionne's albums and hope to have pages for each album completed soon.
Have a great day!Dma124 15:20, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on The Love Drunks (band), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because The Love Drunks (band) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting The Love Drunks (band), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. Speedy deletion of Image:Sera-cahoone.png[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Sera-cahoone.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Sera-cahoone.png|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I notice that you're the creator of the category in question, Mattbrundage. I'm nominating the category for a rename, and I hope you don't mind me doing so; I'm/I've proposed that it be renamed Category:Panic at the Disco albums (in light of the band's decision to rename itself, or to reassert their name as "Panic at the Disco"). If you have any qualms with this, please contact me on my talk page. Thanks. Qwerty (talk) 15:08, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whence[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Whence, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Billboard 200 list 1993-'94[edit]

Hello Matt! My name is Louis and I'm a wiki contributor for some years now. I'm really into editing music-related articles and as a result of Google searching I came across your home page here [[3] and I was wondering where did you get the info. Is it referable enough for Wikipedia because I would really need that. Thanks in advance. Lajbi Holla @ me 20:17, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Undoing Redirects[edit]

I was wondering, since you did not specify a reason in your edit summaries, if you could explain your recent wholesale reversions of my edits. Wikipedia's notability guideline for albums reads, in part : "Album articles with little more than a track listing may be more appropriately merged into the artist's main article or discography article " and that is what I did. Beeblbrox (talk) 03:55, 28 May 2008 (UTC) This talk page is becoming very long. Please consider archiving. Beeblbrox (talk) 03:55, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's notability guideline for albums also states in part, In general, if the musician or ensemble that recorded an album is considered notable, then officially released albums may have sufficient notability to have individual articles on Wikipedia. The problem with your edits is that -- by converting the eight perfectly good articles to redirects -- you essentially deleted the articles and threw off scores of links. If you had actually merged the information into a separate Pedro the Lion discography page, or had started a discussion on the Pedro the Lion talk page about it, that would have been a different story. Fire a warning shot next time. -- Mattbrundage (talk) 13:25, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In a studio album article, the chain (for most artists) should include only other studio albums, excluding live albums and compilations; these other types can also have their own separate chains.

No problem. I wasn't aware either until somebody else pointed that out to me. Shaneymike (talk) 15:06, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Josh Golden[edit]

I removed the name because the linked article was to a now 15 year old drummer (born in 1994) who created the page to push his YouTube channel. If there was someone in Pedro the Lion also named that, it wasn't the person in the link, who was 5 years old in 1999. As I noted in the edit summary, they didn't have a 5 year old drummer. Since the linked article was basically a hoax, I removed the name. If there was someone in the band named Josh Golden, it wasn't the person in the article. That article has been deleted now, so if there is another person by that name, that's another matter. Wildhartlivie (talk) 21:01, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your prompt reply. I've reverted your edit, as the Josh Golden in question is obviously a different person from the 15-year old drummer. IMHO, neither Josh Golden deserves a wiki page, so I've de-linked his name in the table. --Mattbrundage (talk) 13:55, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Orawee Sujjanon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Andean Music, "Bolivia Manta"[edit]

Why you do not consider Bolivia Manta to be a notable group? Bolivia Manta albums is an encyclopedia of Andean folklore, these dances and songs are collected in different parts of Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, and the vast majority of tracks are authentical performance of rural music of the Andes. I do not know any group which has made for the advancement of authentic Andean folk music more than Bolivia Manta. No doubts, there are many nice groups performing various self-composed music inspired by Andes, but Bolivia Manta are the roots. Raoul NK (talk) 17:41, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:The Spill Canvas albums requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
