Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Carlson leadership and public service center. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are however welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. In answer to your specific questions, the article Carlson leadership and public service center was deleted because it was copied from a website that asserted a copyright license incompatible with the GFDL, the license Wikipedia is copyrighted under. More information about copyright law and how it affects Wikipedia can be found at Wikipedia:Copyrights. Also, I would recommend not typing your email address on Wikipedia without obscuring it - there are various email address harvesting spiders on the web, and it can make you a target for spam. If you want to type an email, you can obscure it by writing out the @ and . signs, like this: someaddress at someserviceprovider dot com, instead of someaddress@someserviceprovider.com. I would recommend reading the notability guideline very closely. This is one of the central tenets of Wikipedia - all articles on Wikipedia need to be about notable subjects, and that notability has to be verifiable. There is also a subpolicy for organizations and corporations. Although this doesn't strictly fit the definition of organization and certainly isn't a corporation, it fits that subpolicy more than any other one.

Notability shouldn't be confused with importance, fame, or proving existence. Wikipedia assesses notability as having been the subject of multiple, non-trivial works by reliable sources that are independent of the subject. This is the central criteria, and the two policy pages I linked above provide some clues that a subject is notable. By "non-trivial" we mean more than just passing mentions in a newspaper or something.

If you find that this organization does not meet the notability requirements, you may be able to add a small paragraph in the article about the University of Washington. If you decide to do that, I would suggest asking for input on the talk page of that article, as I'm sure there are quite a few regular editors of the article who would like to offer their opinion. re:Carlson leadership and public service center[edit]

a few reasons, if i remember correctly, the two main being that it read like an advertisement, and that it was lifted from a website. The first is important here, on wikipedia, because everything needs to be neutral and written in third person otherwise the tone becomes informal and quite un-encyclopaedic. Secondly, because parts were lifted from here, it becomes an issue of IP and copyright 'theft' (see here and here for more info). An interesting point is that since your Email address is from the same place as the subject, the article would have been deleted anyway if the above was not a problem, due to WP:COI and, to a lesser extent, some of the content in WP:AUTO. Thanks for the feedback Jonomacdrones. It is appreciated and I will work on re-writing the entry and use a different email address. The entry is not intended to be any sort of advertisement but an explanation of the Center, its purpose, work, and goals stemming from an entry I read about Edward E. Carlson and intended to reflect upon his legacy.

I can image how shocking it is to see your article deleted, especially because you are a new user. Keep trying to improve it, assuming you really think it is worthy of an encyclopedia. I just did an article on Larry Buendorf. VK35 01:37, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
