Hi Max! Katie here. I just looked over your new page on Albanian epic poetry. You did some really interesting research on Lord and Parry. I guess if I had to add anything I'd suggest that you include links to other Wikipedia articles (epic poetry, Parry, Lord, etc.). It was also be cool if you could write a section with a basic description of Albanian epic poetry. Who sings it? What is it usually about? You cover some of that stuff in the "Documentation" section but it can't hurt to be a bit more explicit.Kpruitt1 (talk) 03:05, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Max Rogow. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Milica Mićić Dimovska, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Milica Mićić Dimovska to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks,

  • Hi! I've moved the article to your userspace at User:Max Rogow/Milica Mićić Dimovska. The article looks like it's a draft, as you seemed to still be in the process of writing the article. I highly recommend working on the articles in your userspace and then moving it to the mainspace when you're finished, as otherwise the articles are highly likely to be nominated for deletion in some form or fashion - some deletions can happen fairly quickly, so it's always a good idea to try to make the article as complete as possible before moving it to the mainspace. I was looking at the article you recently created, Albanian Epic Verse, Poetry, and Song. After looking it over I had a few notes for you:

The first is that the article has some original research here and there, as well as reading like an academic paper as opposed to an encyclopedia article. When writing academic papers you can make up your own conclusions based on evidence and take a questioning or casual tone, which is perfectly fine for academic papers. However with encyclopedia articles you cannot draw conclusions even if the evidence suggests that a specific thing is extremely likely - you can only state conclusions, research, or opinions that have been explicitly stated by authorities in reliable sources. You also have to write in a fairly formal, neutral tone in order to fit Wikipedia's WP:MoS and avoid any potential bias - in other words, the reader should not be able to tell the writer's standpoint and the writing needs to be fairly generic. An example of this would be the phrase "Luckily, Parry and Lord were researching at the right time and had support from the right people.". This is seen as a personal opinion by the writer and can be subjective depending on the person.

I noted that you added content on a novel that is similar to some of the things you mentioned in the article. This is something that would typically not be placed in an article unless the book in question has been very heavily covered in relation to the topic at hand and would otherwise be incomplete if it was not mentioned. This is one of the ways that an encyclopedia article can differ from an academic paper, as papers can mention things that would otherwise be seen as relatively off-topic. At most something like this might be something placed in a "see also" section but not have a section to its own. The number one thing though is that things of this nature must be sourced to back up the claims in order to show that it's legit. I noted that a similar section in the novel's page was unsourced, so I removed this - it was already marked as an essay.

I also noted that you put a lot of weight on the scholarship and the people who study this topic, to the point where there's actually more about the people and their study of Albanian epic poetry than there is on Albanian epic poetry itself. This would be seen as fairly WP:UNDUE weight on the scholarship, especially as most articles don't really put much or really any true focus on the scholarship of a culture's literature, to be honest. You might be able to justify some coverage of this to a degree, but I don't think that you should have sections that list the names of the historians.

Sourcing-wise, the sources look ok but you need to make sure that the sources explicitly state what you have written in the article. You cannot use it to back up a point that isn't very specifically stated in the source material, even if it looks like it would obviously support the claim.

You also need to tweak the title some, as the title is somewhat clunky. This looks like it would probably be summed up relatively well with the general term "Albanian epic poetry", as many similar works in other countries are put under this banner. The term itself, "Albanian epic poetry", serves as a redirect to the main page "Albanian folk poetry" so you may want to see if your page could be merged with that entry.
