I have some questions about the reasoning for the rejection of my article. I feel like the sources I use are not just passing matters of the subject. They are articles or pages that talk explicitly about the mural in the church. Additionally, I am confused as to why they wouldn't be considered reliable sources.
You also made a comment on the sources not being independent of the subject, but reject the use of the scholarly articles because they are independent of the subject.

I did not reject the scholarly articles because they are independent, but because they don't talk about the subject. Ideally, we'd want sources that talk about the subject, but are independent of it, so their presentation of it would be neutral. A source that is connected to the subject (not independent) has an incentive in showcasing it in a particular way (e.g. promotion, subjective view, etc.), and is thus not considered reliable for this purpose.
