Battle of Britain[edit]
Hallo from New Zealand and welcome to Wiki world, Sorry to butt in on your discussion with Bzuk; one problem here is that you have relied on an unreferenced statement made in another Wikipedia article to support your case. Unfortunately, for various reasons, this cannot be used as confirmation to edit an article (see Wikipedia: Verifiability scroll down to Wikipedia and sources that mirror Wikipedia). If anything the article you have quoted from itself needs lots of work because it has so many unreferenced statements which could be challenged and removed. If you can find a reliable source of information, such as a book, which can be used as a reference that would be acceptable. Also, have a read of Non-British personnel in the RAF during the Battle of Britain to see what sources of information have been used - these may provide the information you seek. It can be frustrating to see your work being undone by someone else but, for better or for worse, that's one of the things we editors have to put up with. It can take some getting used to - there are probably thousands of smashed keyboards which can be attributed to Wikipedia! ;) Cheers! Minorhistorian (talk) 20:48, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- BTW, I wrote that statement you have used for verification so I do know the origins of the Polish contributions in the Battle of Britain. Nevertheless, the Polish contribution, while being substantial, still does not qualify them as one of the "nations" at war, although there is certainly a great deal of "muddying" of the topic as is evidenced in the Battle of France article. My first reaction to your original edit is that this issue has already been discussed and a consensus decision has been arrived at that only lists the RAF and their fighting units as the combatants. The entire question of the Polish government in exile, however, is a fascinating one. I would certainly like to discuss it more. Let's look for a good forum for that discourse; can I suggest the "talk page" of the Battle of Britain. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 21:00, 7 March 2009 (UTC).
- I have responded to your post on the board. Polish historian Michael Peszke says (on page 134) the the Polish Air Force was not independent. In June 1940 independence was given tot he Polish Army and Navy but not the Air Force. This was not changed until June 1944. See here: Peszke, Michael Alfred.
