Image Stacking
I see you've been removing the image stacking templates from articles lately, is there any specific reason for doing that? Because some of those articles now have a gaping white space beside the picture, which, to me, is rather unpleasant. deadkid_dk 00:41, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. I went through all of the articles using the {{ImageStackRight}} template and removed it from the pages which (I thought) were using it improperly. The template really should only be used in instances where a series of images belong in a logical group, such as in the Nelson hold, Addis Ababa, or Google logo articles. Otherwise, simply listing the images is sufficient and no template is needed.
- In a number of articles I also distributed the images to match the specific sections they referred to. There were several instances where there were redundant images or images that did not serve to illustrate any particular portion of the article. Basically, the images were in a vertically stacked gallery. As specified on WP:NOT, current policy is against this. There is a discussion going on over at Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not/galleries about whether galleries are appropriate in Wikipedia articles, and about a proposed wording change.
- Would you mind linking me to the specific articles you are concerned about? It is difficult to gauge exactly how an article will flow given the wide variety of browsers and screen settings people use, so it would be helpful to me to know exactly what you are referring to. I wouldn't mind if you reverted my changes, if you had a reasonable explanation. I agree that gaping whitespace doesn't look very good, but I had to make some compromises earlier. ~MDD4696 04:14, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, Brand Hong Kong was definately the worst one I did. I don't really know what to do with that one... it wouldn't be a problem if there was more written about the subject. - OK, I did what you suggested and removed the stack template because you made sense to just list the images. I did not originally put the stack in but it did make the images look very neat and organized. Removing failed WP Candidate

Atlas award
Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp only seems to apply to exact or attempted exact copies of a work, would not seem to apply to a low resolution copy of a portion of a single frame of an ad in a comic book. - I'm not married to it either, so I'm really not going to pursue this any futhur. The likelyhood of Wikimedia getting sued for this image is extremely low, but one of the wonders of current U.S. copyright law is that it's so vague and ambiguous that the possibility still exists. Since the ad was published and its licensing has not been explicitly stated anywhere we know of, we must assume that it's copyrighted and all rights are reserved, just to be safe. Copyright applies to a whole work, and any parts of it people might use, so just using a cropped portion doesn't remove that legality. However, the amount of a copyrighted work is one thing the courts take into consideration in deciding if a particular use is copyright infringement. My complaint was deliberately written in an aggressive fashion, in order to provoke a reaction, and I am truly pleased at having gotten intelligent responses, at last!! I apologize if I irritated anyone, but now I have enough study materials to learn, to enable me to correct my mistakes and join this beautiful & gigantic effort with more steady steps. Now I've got a lot of homework to do, after taking due note of your suggestions. Thank you, again!

- The rendering had slowed to a halt (1 line every hour) for the last week because my computer ran out of RAM and virtual memory (causing it to thrash... constantly reading from and writing to the disk). I stopped it and restarted my computer... now the new rendering doesn't match the old one! Put the poll up whenever you feel like it; the current rendering is at http://bubka.rh.rit.edu/rendering.png so people can use that to judge. I don't want to delay the promotion any more, and personally I think we should upload Deadcode's version over the original. I can eventually link to mine as an alternative on the image page. Closing FPs

- Well, after looking at all the votes, I think I see 12 in favor out of 16, or 75% support. Dschwen was all over the place heh. Space Patrol - image reference
Hi there, You recently got rid of a reference to an image that I had attached to the entry to Space Patrol (1962 TV series). The image itself having been removed by a 'bot', because it said it did not know where it came from. The thing was it came from Wikipedia (the Gaelic version). I could not understand the Gaelic, but assumed that Wikipedia was happy with it in Gaelic, so why not English, so I put it into the English version and added details of the Gaelic origin and even the copyright information I had found there. - I removed the image because it did not have the proper source or licensing information in English. The image in question is ga:Íomhá:Carachtair Space Patrol.jpg.jpg, which you uploaded to en:Image:Space Patrol.jpg, right? Wikipedia's policy is that images without the proper source and licensing information should be deleted after being tagged for 7 days. If you decide to upload it again, it must have the original source (wherever the Gaelic Wikipedia got it from), and it must be tagged properly. You should also note that it was taken from the Gaelic site, as you did originally. The licensing information must be translated from Gaelic, or else no one can verify the information. ~MDD4696 22:07, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Request assistance deleting old talk page
Greetings. two of the Wikipedia Sysops (or whatevery you call them here), refuse to let me delete the content of my talk page, for reasons that go beyond my understanding. Some of the material in the talk page is personal. The page includes rough drafts with mistakes that I never intended to make permanent. Had I known I would not be allowed to delete this material, I would never have posted it in the first place.
You recently archived part of the page, which is fine, of course. I told you at that time that I planned to clear the whole page, as I do from time to time. You raised no objection, and it never occured to me that anyone would object, but apparently these other two sysops do object. I would appreciate it if you could take steps to clear the page. If you want to keep a copy of any material there for your own purposes, please feel free to do so.

- You can just leave the link to the text that was already there and add a link for the wikisource later. For example "The text of sura 62 [1]" --a.n.o.n.y.m t 19:54, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

- Hey Mdd4696. As I said, I did it to all the articles because usually people don't know how to use the wikisource and an external link section will open up more interest in adding links especially of interpretation of the Suras. However for encyclopedia manual of styles, the wikisource should be there anyway, the external link section is a starter for more links on Tafsir of the Suras. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 23:08, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
