Jeff V. Merkey[edit]

He's indefinitely blocked. I see absolutely no reason to discuss what he might do in the future. Can you please refactor your recent comments on the talk page to focus on the article and its content? Thanks! --Ronz (talk) 18:51, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I do find it amusing how much editing this banned editor [[1]] continues to perform to his own bio. --MediaMangler (talk) 02:12, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I think you've done a very good job of cooling off a rapidly escalating dispute.
Yes, the sockpuppetry concerns me as well. I was hoping there would be others monitoring the article that would have stepped in by now. --Ronz (talk) 02:42, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now I need to consider how -- or even whether or not I should -- respond to Merkey's complaint on WP:BLP. Ehh, why bother? --MediaMangler (talk) 02:50, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have retracted the BLP complaint. I think we understand one another better now. I had no idea you worked for the DOD, so welcome brother.  :) 166.70.238.46 (talk) 02:28, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't call me your brother, it makes me nauseous. My opinion of your character and reliability has not changed one iota. The fact that for four years of your life you contributed to the defense of the nation should be mentioned in your bio, but does not compare to the notability of your subsequent actions. You are banned from this site. Stay away. --MediaMangler (talk) 15:35, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to this diff there are a number of accounts and IPsocks. Do you have a list? Some of them need to be tagged so they get listed in Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Jeffrey Vernon Merkey. -- Brangifer (talk) 18:31, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A very partial list is available on an old version of my user page. I removed that material at the personal request of Jimbo Wales. The list dates from October of 2006, so it fails to include quite a few sockpuppets that have been used since then. More recent and complete lists were available on various pages that have been deleted. --MediaMangler (talk) 21:55, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Jeff V. Merkey[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Jeff V. Merkey. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeff V. Merkey. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:16, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have time on Saturday?[edit]

I'm sorry for the last-minute notice, but on Saturday, June 8, from 3 to 6 PM, Wikimedia DC and the Cato Institute are hosting a Legislative Data Meetup. We will discuss the work done so far by WikiProject U.S. Federal Government Legislative Data to put data from Congress onto Wikipedia, as well as what more needs to be done. I hope to see you there!

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, MediaMangler. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
