Image licensing[edit]

Namaste. I noticed that you uploaded several magazine covers as Creative Commons, could you mayhaps provide WP:OTRS with proof that these images are indeed licensed under creative commons? I have tagged the images with {{wrong license}} in the interim (it is the best one I know of right now). I also notice that the covers contain additional artwork; there may be issues related to derivative works of the movie characters and such which might prevent releasing them as CC as well. All of these covers have been signed off by licence holders and are the covers of actual printed magazines, so as I read and understood the creative commons rules they were in the right section. However, images are the one thing that stump me on Wikipedia. So if I wanted to look at these again, then maybe change the licence, how would I do that?

Simply marking the images as wrong isn't a great help, unless you can answer that question and tell me which licence they should be listed under and how I go about changing that licence. As someone who is listed as being part of the clean up of wikipedia's images, I'd hope you can help me do that. I'm finding this element of wikipedia quite annoying - all of the images were deleted by a user at one point, with no notification. I'm going to email confirmation that I am the creator of these magazines and by extension these images, from an official MyM email address, and hopefully that will be the end of the matter. I have to admit I'm not enjoying a process that is designed to make wikipedia as up to date as possible and be a benefit to the site.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion.
