Help with Citations

Hello Megalibrarygirl,

I researched via my library card and found a few more magazine articles on proquest.com; although, this service doesn't work if you are not logged in ( website link: https://search.proquest.com/docview/431435524?accountid=39933 ) Do I use this address anyway for the url? Not sure how to cit it. Can you help me with this or should I be asking someone else? Thank you.LorriBrown (talk) 14:39, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

@LorriBrown: when I use my library to access Gale or EBSCOhost, the permanent links do the same thing. They're still valid sources even if only people with database access can see the full text. What you want to do is cite the magazine article using "cite journal." <ref>{{cite journal |last1=Doe |first1=Jane |title=Best Title Ever |journal=Best Journal in the World |date=2019 |volume=45 |issue=125 |page=67 |url=http://google.com |accessdate=6 April 2019|via=ProQuest|subscription=yes}}</ref> [1] Make sure you use "via" to state the database it came from and "subscription" to show that you need to be a subscriber (in your case, the library is the subscriber, but it's the same thing). And you can always ask me for help. I'll try to respond as quickly as I can. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 15:35, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
@Megalibrarygirl: Thank you! That is very helpful to know.LorriBrown (talk) 16:11, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi Megalibrarygirl. If you were able to figure out how to do 2FA, could you ping me offwiki and walk me through it? Thanks!
Can do, Rosiestep! I'll send you a step-by-step via email. You'll need your cell phone to do 2 step verification. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:56, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Images in Wikimedia Commons

Greetings Megalibrarygirl, I have lost track of a conversation we had on images. :- ( I have been in communication with several of the subjects of articles I've created and AfC approved. They were interested in having pictures posted but I think the process in Wikimedia Commons is not encouraging them to upload their images. Is there an easier process? You had mentioned Flicker (I think). How does uploading from Flicker differ from uploading directly to Wikimedia Commons... or can you help me with that? KT uploaded a preferred image to be used (which has already been used on | Vimeo) and it was immediately deleted. Another artist sent their image to me directly and when I mentioned it would be best if they uploaded directly... Might you have any suggestions. Thanks! :- )LorriBrown (talk) 17:04, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

No worries, LorriBrown! If they upload their images to Flickr and use a license like the one shown here, then you can easily grab the photo from Flickr and add to Commons. There's some more info on this here, but if you need more help, please ask me. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 19:25, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Megalibrarygirl/Archives/2019,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

Mae Jemison is in the final stretch of a GA review. Although its been two years since you edited the article, I couldn't help but notice your fingerprints. Thank you!!!!! I was hoping to entice you into returning once again to the page and helping us cross the finishing line. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 09:20, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

A Dobos torte for you!

7&6=thirteen () has given you a Dobos torte to enjoy! Seven layers of fun because you deserve it.

To give a Dobos torte and spread the WikiLove, just place {{subst:Dobos Torte}} on someone else's talkpage, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.
