William Ashley[edit]

Hi. William Ashley was a Knight Bachelor, the commonest (and lowest) form of knighthood which carries membership of no order and thus no postnominal letters. This is confirmed by this entry in the London Gazette, which refers to him as "Sir William James Ashley, Knight" (no order mentioned) and by his obituary in The Times. -- Necrothesp 12:33, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Anntreneman.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Anntreneman.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Image tagging[edit]

Look mate, what IS your problem with where images come from? They make wikipedia a better place, regardless of source (and for the record I think that ALL of my images qualify as fair use). You're actually working against everything that is good about wikipedia, systematically going after people and questioning everything they do. Who told you to do this? Why take the 'law' into your own hands? Ask yourself this: who are you protecting? You wanna play cops and robbers, go and joing the freaking police. Do something useful, rather than wasting your life on here. What is your job? Cos this ain't real life buddy, and if its your only hobby, I feel bad for you. I mean really bad. I thinks it's quite sad that your only reason for using wikipedia is to actively reverse what other people do, rather than to actively create content. Hello, Megawattbulbman. Please, don't take my actions personally. I feel sorry for making you feel ducked. I'll do my best to avoid it. Thanks for caring about my free time. Yes, imporving Wikipedia is one of my favorite hobbies, but thankfully not the only one. Thanks for caring again.

I believe it's important to know where the images come from because otherwise we couldn't determine it's copyright status. And I believe that removing copyright-problematic images from Wikipedia improves it just as much as adding good and free content. I don't believe copyrigths violations (or fair use abuse) can mae Wikipedia a better place.

By the way, your tone wasn't exactly appropriate. And it may be better to remove the "Stop coming after me Abu!" from the image pages.

User:Abu badali was doing what many, many other Wikipedia editors do, and - quite correctly - tagging images that had been uploaded improperly.
