Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for File:Bahrain A Heritage Explored.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bahrain A Heritage Explored.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 10:45, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for January 15[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited American Mission Hospital, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Arabian Gulf. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Mejoel! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:01, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jane Scardefield moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Jane Scardefield, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. If this was the first article that you created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

The page Draft:Bound to Rise (Book) has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appeared to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appeared to be a direct copy from https://www.amazon.com/Bound-Rise-Sunil-Robert/dp/9383260114. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition has been be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.sch.org.bh/en/about/who-are-we.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Request reason:

I believe in copyright, and I accept [copyright policy]

Personally, I believe it is a moral and a legal necessity to acknowledge and reference the original sources when writing articles.

As I am, unfortunately, still learning the ropes of citing or referencing material online I seem to have erred and violated wikipedia copyright policies, by not properly referencing the source.

I firmly state that I do not wish to state anyone else's work as my own.

I promise to make myself more aware of the methods of citation and referencing and I promise to avoid coypright policy infringement. Thank you.

Decline reason:

This does not do as Star Mississippi rquested. You will need to explain what Wikipedia's licence is, what copyright is, and when/how copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia. Request reason:

Firstly, I understand what copyright is. All creative works are usually copyrighted, by international agreements, and are the property of copyright owners. I cannot upload copyrighted material without authorization from the copyright owners. Only material that is available in the public domain, and that which can be clearly and properly attributed, without infringment of copyright, can be used on Wikipedia. The text of Wikipedia is itself copyrighted (under Berne Convention ), just like how "free" software licences are. (Earlier, I was unable to do appropriate citation and referencing. I am now getting the hang of it, and I am confident I can do it well. I firmly state that I would never like to share other people's work as my own. I am also aware that copyright violations from my side could cause problems to wikipedia, and that is why I must be extra careful). Secondly, I am aware that Wikipedia's text and many of its images are co-licensed under (a) Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA) and under (b) GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) The CC by SA licence lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon my work, even commercially, as long as others credit me for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licences offered and is normally recommended for larger dissemination and greater use of licensed materials. GFDL is a copyleft license for free documentation, designed by the Free Software Foundation (FSF) for the GNU Project. it gives readers the rights to copy, redistribute, and modify (except for "invariant sections") a work and requires all copies and derivatives to be available under the same license. All creative works are copyrighted, by international agreement, unless either they fall into the public domain or their copyright is explicitly disclaimed. Finally, I wish to re-affirm that I understand the issues here and I promise to respect the rights of copyright owners, and will be very careful in citing and referencing my article info, appropriately and as needed. 331dot Star Mississippi

Decline reason:

These answers are not generally correct. For example, there's no need to properly attribute public domain content. For example, you miss all of WP:FAIRUSE. For example, you seem to think that the CC by SA license is the most accommodating of licenses available; this is obviously false. For example, you seem to think all creative works are copyrighted when this is clearly false; see for example, Steamboat Willie. Yamla (talk) 12:59, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mejoel (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I regret I made a few mistakes with my recent submissions and got blocked for copyright violations. And I am now appealing for an unblock.

I understand that while Wikipedia's goal is to be a free content encyclopedia, it has a very sound copyright policy that prevents violations of copyright and theft of intellectual property.

As a contributor, I have committed to, and I must follow this, copyright policy. It will help keep Wikipedia valuable for all readers and indemnify it from legal complications.

I do not have the right to copy, distribute, adapt, display, or use any creative work that is not my own, without the express permission(s) or license(s) from the original creator.

My material - text and images - as a contributor, must be largely from public domain sources without copyright restrictions. However, I may use licensed sources that are in line with Wikipedia's copyright policy, provided I follow the method of correct attributions (to sources), in my referencing.

I must also be willing to release my original content under two licenses. The [Commons license|Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA)] and, if not otherwise noted, the [Free Documentation License (GFDL)].

The CC BY-SA 4.0 allows the re-distribution and re-use of the licensed work on the conditions that the creator is appropriately credited and that any derivative work is made available under “the same, similar or a compatible license”

The GNU Free Documentation License is a form of [[1]] intended for use on a manual, textbook, or other document to assure everyone the effective freedom to copy and redistribute it, with or without modifications, either commercially or non-commercially.

I wish to assure the editors, administrators, and all concerned that I respect the copyright of the original creators. I do not wish to state anyone else's work as my own, and I would be giving appropriate citations or references by attributing the sources wherever necessary.

My appeal is to please take off the ban. If my explanation and my appeal to unblock is not enough; and not appropriate, I shall be grateful to anyone who can guide me on how to go about with my appeal. Thank you. Mejoel 20:18, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
