Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Melisewilliams. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Chris Obi, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Note: at Wikipedia talk:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:Chris Obi this editor states, "Hi! I'm the PA for Chris obi, he's an actor and going to be staring in the next Startrek to series, he wants me to publish a wiki page for him..." TJRC (talk) 22:00, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for getting back to me and for all your help. Just want to get a page up about chris obi, read the guidelines. Just need a little more guidance, as to how I can get it published? As to the sources what other sources should I be including, thank you again for all your help!! I do really appreciate it!!!
It does not appear that Obi is notable within the meaning of that term in Wikipedia. Looking at the draft in the state in which you submitted it, it really not in shape for publication. You have URLs splashed all through it, and it looks nothing like a Wikipedia article.
But most importantly, nowhere do you establish that Obi is notable. Please, please, have a look at the notability guidelines people have been pointing out to you. For actors, a good distillation is at WP:ENTERTAINER. You need to show the "Has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions"; "Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following"; or "Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment". Nothing you've written seems to indicate that. (If you disagree, point the pertinent sources out. If I agree with you, I'll try to whip the draft article into shape. I'm all for expanding coverage in Wikipedia, where warranted; but only where warranted.)
You also need to stop citing sources that do not qualify as WP:RELIABLE SOURCES. You reference IMDb, blogs, wikis, and things like that, none of which qualify. You do have a couple sources that are good, like the Hollywood Reporter and Variety. But they really don't say enough about Obi to establish his notability. Based on my sampling, they're just routine reporting on casting for the TV series; they're not really about Obi at all.
Don't try to fluff it up, either. A short stub that consists only of statements from reliable sources that establish notability is far better than a longer article full of crap.
Finally, you need to stop continually republishing it, evading the draft article submission process. The draft process is not the only way to start an article, but for an inexperienced editor, it's the best way. When you find your draft submissions turned down, you need to address the inadequacies in the article, rather than try to bypass the process. If you keep doing that, you're likely to find yourself blocked from editing. TJRC (talk) 00:23, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • To repeat my advice: "Chris Obi" is currently mentioned at least in six articles. See here. Can you expand the coverage of Chris at any of these articles? If the answer is "no", if you can't, you are not going to be able to wirte an article on him. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:00, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Chris Obi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
