The [Institute for Economics and Peace][1](or IEP) is a global non-profit research organization headquartered in Australia and has a branch at Washington DC. The IEP’s mission is explained by the founder of the Institute, [Steve Killelea][2] , as "analysing the impact of peace on sustainability, defining the 'Peace Industry', estimating the value of peace to the world economy, and uncovering the social structures and social attitudes that are at the core of peaceful societies".

To date, the IEP has initiated significant works including Global Peace Index (GPI) and Building Blocks of Peace. Global Peace Index[3] (GPI) , a core asset of the IEP, developed and produced every year since 2007 and AfP[4] organized so successful GPI launch events in Washington DC, at the National Press Club (2007) and at the Center for International and Strategic Studies (2008, 2009)[5] . GPI rates “the relative tranquility of 144 nations according to 23 indicators-including gun sales, the number of homicides, the size of the military, the potential for terrorism and the number people in jail”[6]. Another work of the IEP is downloadable peace education materials, namely Building Blocks of Peace[7] , prepared by curriculum specialists that offer “a fresh perspective to the issues surrounding global peace”[8].
