Vince Vaughn[edit]

Hi, thanks for your help on Vince Vaughn. However, I noticed that the protection you put in is significantly shorter than the previous protection which expired only a short time ago. The page has been consistently vandalized for a long time despite multiple protections. The vandal also targeted Zachary Taylor and that page, which has seen the exact same vandalism, has been semi-protected indefinitely. Would you please take a closer look at the page's protection history and consider making it longer? Thanks. Buckinghamian (talk) 23:39, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, done, i was blocking multiple IPs at the same time, and didn't notice the previous PP being so lengthy. Mfield (Oi!) 23:43, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but are you sure doing another 6 months is the best thing to do? 6 months clearly didn't work before, and the other page was protected indefinitely and keep in mind that this page is a blp. Buckinghamian (talk) 23:45, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Upon taking a closer look at how quickly this resumed, I concur, I have made it indef, and hidden the latest revisions. Mfield (Oi!) 23:55, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Admin's Barnstar
For clearing WP:AIV so fast that I did not get a chance to do any I give you the admin's barnstar. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 03:21, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, and thank you[edit]

Apolo, gies for the accidental revert, I was browing on my mobile device, and accidentally fat-fingered the "undo", evidently. I selected "cancel" and went on my merry way, not realizing it reverted your edit anyway. My sincere apologies, and thank you for following up on that. All the best, 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 18:01, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, I assumed it was something like that. Mfield (Oi!) 18:05, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

185.32.176.86[edit]

I was surprised to see you'd blocked 185.32.176.86 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), as I'd been meaning to thank them for catching a POV edit that slipped through the cracks at African American–Jewish relations. Can I ask which part of their contribs/filter log was vandalism? It seems like they were removing a lot of POV/unsourced/poorly-sourced content, but maybe I'm overlooking something. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 04:17, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Let me take a look back at that Mfield (Oi!) 04:25, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah it was a AIV report that only flagged their filter logs, they had tripped a ton of filters that appeared on the surface to be disruptive editing. Looking at it though and taking into account their prior contributions, I am not why why those tripped. I have unlocked etc accordingly Mfield (Oi!) 04:38, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll grant you, it's one of the most superficially suspicious string of edits I've ever seen turn out to be good-faith. Thanks for looking into it. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 04:44, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection[edit]

Hi Mfield - page protection is needed on Ethan Horvath. Thanks.-KH-1 (talk) 04:40, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Boris Stoyanov[edit]

I'm guessing from your name that you may have a clue about M-theory. How do you think we should deal with the eulogy at Boris Stoyanov? I tried some minor wikification but was reverted. I see that you have blocked the author, but another new editor has now taken over the article's expansion. Certes (talk) 11:14, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:10, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled[edit]

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Returning Vandal NicCraft33[edit]

Hi,

I noticed you previously blocked this individual in June 2021. He/She returned to his/her old ways pretty soon after the block cleared, and continues to vandalize Malaysian political biographies and political parties in the vast majority of "contributions". I'd appreciate if you'd consider blocking or banning the account.

Thanks and regards, Samhu (talk) 16:09, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LA to FA 2022[edit]

LA to FA 2022

Dear Mfield,

You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here!
