GA nomination[edit]

I guess you did not get a notification, but I have started a GA review process of an article you nominated: Talk:Mikhail Gorbachev/GA1. I hope you are going to respond. --3E1I5S8B9RF7 (talk) 19:29, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@3E1I5S8B9RF7: That's excellent, thank you very much - and thank you for letting me know at my Talk Page! For whatever reason I do not seem to have received the automated response, as you note. Midnightblueowl (talk) 12:42, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

TFA[edit]

Thank you today for Coldrum Long Barrow, "about a Neolithic burial site in Kent, south-eastern England, one of several Medway Megaliths located around the River Medway. Part of a tradition of chambered long barrow construction that took place across much of Europe in the Neolithic, it is one of the very oldest built constructions still extant in the British landscape. As well as having an important archaeological side to its story, it also has various folkloric associations."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:28, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Coldrum Long Barrow[edit]

Please see my comment at Talk:Coldrum Long Barrow#Dodgy metric conversion. Are the dimensions given in metric or imperial in the original sources? --Red King (talk) 20:55, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations on achieving FA. I hope that you did not find my response too ill-tempered, you just happened to tread on my hobby horse :-) --Red King (talk) 11:58, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Red King: It's not a problem at all! Glad you caught the error. Converting metric to imperial (and vice versa) is hardly a strong point of mine. Midnightblueowl (talk) 12:07, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Sani Abacha.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Sani Abacha.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Chomsky[edit]

What do you think about this discussion as to Chomsky's GA category? Although I think that the article belongs under the Words and linguistics category on this page (which is where the GA Language, for example, is located), Czar is categorizing it under the Philosophers section on this page. Vrrajkum (talk)

Replaceable fair use File:Pol Pot Headshot.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Pol Pot Headshot.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:49, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fir Clump Stone Circle scheduled for TFA[edit]

This is to let you know that the Fir Clump Stone Circle article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 9, 2020. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 9, 2020, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:04, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Neolithic articles[edit]

A quick note to say that if you’d like pre-FAC (or any other kind of) reviews for your articles on Neolithic structures in Britain, let me know; I’m not expert but enjoy the topic and would be glad to help, time permitting. @Mike Christie: thank you very much for that kind offer! I'll probably be taking Addington Long Barrow and White Horse Stone to FAC at some point in the next year or so, given that both are now GAs, so if you had the time and interest to take a look at those I'm sure the articles would benefit from it. Swaminarayan Sampraday[edit]

Hello I would like to get some help to make the following edit to the Swaminarayan Sampraday article.

Currently the section in dispute reads as follows:

Gunatit Samaj[edit]

The Yogi Divine Society was established in 1966, by Dadubhai Patel and his brother, Babubhai after they were excommunicated from BAPS by Yogiji Maharaj. The brothers were expelled after it was discovered that Dadubhai illicitly collected and misappropriated funds and, falsely claiming that he was acting on the organization’s behalf, led a number of young women to renounce their families and join his ashram under his leadership.[1]: 72 [2][3]: 18–19  After Dadubhai’s death in 1986, an ascetic named Hariprasad Swami became the leader of the Yogi Divine Society. The Yogi Divine Society became known as the Gunatit Samaj and consists of several wings: namely, Yogi Divine Society, The Anoopam Mission, and The Gunatit Jyot.[1]: 72–73, 127 [2]

There is a proposal to change it to this based on the following sources:

https://www.google.com/books/edition/Acts_of_Faith/Sgs9BAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22dadubhai+patel%22&pg=PT170&printsec=frontcover https://www.google.com/books/edition/An_Introduction_to_Swaminarayan_Hinduism/tPkexi2EhAIC?gbpv=1&bsq=dadubhai%20patel%20was

The Change (Update Section):
The Yogi Divine Society was established in 1966, by Dadubhai Patel and his brother, Babubhai after they were excommunicated from BAPS by Yogiji Maharaj. The brothers were expelled after it was discovered that Dadubhai illicitly collected and misappropriated funds and, falsely claiming that he was acting on the organization’s behalf, led a number of young women to renounce their families and join his ashram under his leadership.[1]: 72 [2][4]: 18–19  Dadubhai believed Narayanswarupdas Swami, also known as Pramukh Swami, was against him and persuaded the BAPS trustees to remove him.[5][6] After Dadubhai’s death in 1986, an ascetic named Hariprasad Swami became the leader of the Yogi Divine Society. The Yogi Divine Society became known as the Gunatit Samaj and consists of several wings: namely, Yogi Divine Society, The Anoopam Mission, and The Gunatit Jyot.[1]: 72–73, 127 [2] Yogiji Maharaj's images and prior gurus are displayed at all Gunatit Samaj temples.[7]

Is this something that is allowed or not?

V. Gordon Childe scheduled for TFA[edit]

This is to let you know that the V. Gordon Childe article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 19, 2020. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 19, 2020, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

10:22, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is very exciting. Congratulations and thanks for your hard work on this article, Midnightblueowl! – Joe (talk) 09:52, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Cultural racism[edit]

The article Cultural racism you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Cultural racism for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Hi Midnightblueowl, I have a small question for you about a Shinto related article.

The article Seidai Myōjin is currently being discussed for deletion. The subject appears to narrowly fail WP:GNG, though participants in the discussion have suggested that the subject should be notable qua being a Shinto deity; others think it should be merged with the article on the relevant shrine. We haven't yet had someone well-versed in Shinto matters participate in the discussion. Would you be able to have a look at the article and give a recommendation on the AfD? Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 20:48, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tell us about your experiences editing the English Wikipedia![edit]

Hi Midnightblueowl!

I am conducting an interview study about how Wikipedia editors collaborate in the English edition of Wikipedia. The project description is on the WMF meta wiki: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Characterizing_Collaboration_Models_in_the_EN,_FR_and_ES_Language_Editions_of_Wikipedia.

This research study is part of a larger project where we are trying to understand how editors collaborate in different language editions of Wikipedia. I was looking through our team’s prior dataset and came across conversations that you have had on the Nelson Mandela article talk page. I am interested in learning more about those conversations.

Would you be willing to participate in a 1 hour interview about your experience? The interview will take place virtually over Skype, Hangout, Zoom or phone.

Our research team will make our best efforts to keep your participation confidential. Participation in our study is voluntary. If you are willing to participate in this interview, or if you have additional questions please email me. Or, if you are concerned about direct email you can contact me through Wikipedia’s mail feature.

If you are interested or have any other questions, please let us know.

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:30, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Doll tor[edit]

Not sure if you've finished working on this, but some sfn cites are missing their "Hutton 2013" target. Fantastic work, btw. MichaelMaggs (talk) 10:55, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Michael. I'll fix that now. Midnightblueowl (talk) 08:50, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Shinto[edit]

Hello, please refrain from the removal of cited edditing. The last grievance that you had was about a reference that was already on page as a link that substantiated my edditing.

  • Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Shinto. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Zongqi (talk) 00:20, 6 December 2020 (UTC) (suitable for intentional nonsense or disruption) I can only see that you are wasting my time intentionally. There are many pages on wiki of this nature that have little or know citations. You seem to know what the foundation doctrine is not, therefore you must have a very sound knowledge of what it is, so please explain to me what this is.[reply]
Best to keep the discussion at the more appropriate Talk:Shinto#Gogyo Gogen. And please don't make false accusations of vandalism. Midnightblueowl (talk) 10:24, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rodnovery[edit]

Hello Midnightblueowl.

You have given significant contribution to the construction of the article "Slavic Native Faith", and have intervened numerous times in the discussion. Lately there is one Polish user, who apparently may be a hardcore Slavic traditionalist or reconstructionist, who insists for having anything he considers "pseudo-science" and "new religious movement" removed from the article, despite academics (Laruelle, Aitamurto, etc.) who have studied the movement recognise the constribution of modern influences to its formation, its syncretism, and its many "denominations". It is a problem that already presented itself in the past with other users who considered themselves "pure traditionalists". I have the impression that he doesn't understand the distinction between, or deliberately mixes, the scholarly study of the modern new religious movement and the scholarly study of the ancient Slavic religion. He has passed the limits of ad personam attacks, and, being English not my mother tongue, I may not be able to sustain the discussion for long. Your intervention would be appreciated. The main discussion is this one.--Æo (talk) 14:58, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
