License tagging for Image:Wxscanis2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wxscanis2.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:11, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Normandy road[edit]

I've nominated Normandy road, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Normandy road satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Normandy road and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Normandy road during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Fourohfour 14:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Normally the AfDs remain open much longer, but in this case it appears that an admin has decided the subject was clearly non-notable and qualified for speedy deletion. (See the AfD discussion for reasons). Fourohfour 11:28, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Pennsylvania[edit]

Hello there!

I'm writing to inform you that we are now forming the first local Wikimedia Chapter in the United States: Wikimedia Pennsylvania. Our goals are to perform outreach and fundraising activities on behalf of the various Wikimedia projects. If you're interested in being a part of the chapter, or just want to know more, you can:

Thanks and I hope you join up! Cbrown1023 talk 03:26, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Cartoon Central, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on Talk:Cartoon Central. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thanks. Realkyhick 05:17, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Email tip[edit]

You may wish to set your email address in your preferences instead. Just click here, paste it into the "E-mail" field, click "Enable e-mail from other users" and click Save. Then, people can click "E-mail this user" next to your user page and user talk page. I recommend that you do not state it on your user page, as this makes you vulnerable for spam bots. Regards, Melsaran 15:42, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for the tip. :) Intelliguy 15:51, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} call[edit]

Hi. {{helpme}} are used if you have "questions about using Wikipedia" that you would like general help for. It is placed on your own talk page where helpers will answer your query. If you have a question for a specific user, then post it in the user talk page. That do not require a {{helpme}} being posted on that user talk page. KTC 00:26, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Wxscannational.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wxscannational.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:57, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:XLCC.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:XLCC.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Fair use rationale for Image:Twcatmospheres.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Twcatmospheres.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Need help with updating images[edit]

{{helpme}} Hi, could anyone tell me how to update an image? I tried clicking on the "upload a new version of this file" link on the image, but it ended up showing a completely new image file, rather than an updated version of the same one. Thanks for any help. MikeM2010 (talk) 20:35, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's exactly what you need to do. Which image did you try to update so that I can check the history and maybe figure out what went wrong. --Kimontalk 20:46, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This was the image I tried to update. I saw no edits by me in the history section. I think I figured out the problem though. The image was a PNG, and the type of image I was trying to upload was a JPG. Should it work correctly if I try uploading a PNG instead? MikeM2010 (talk) 20:57, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. PNG and JPG are two completely different formats and may be screwing things up. When replacing a media file, you have to make sure you are replacing it with another in the same format. Give it a try with the PNG version and let me know. --Kimontalk 21:00, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, it worked. Thank you for your help! MikeM2010 (talk) 21:19, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WeatherSTAR XL vs IntelliStar updates[edit]

I'm not sure you if you know or not, and I know it's not a "wiki" kind of question, but do you know if the WeatherSTAR XL received the same LDL updates the IntelliStar received on the 2nd of June? I'm just curious... If it did, the article should be updated, but I just don't know... It would seem logical it received some kind of update... —TRAiNER4 (talkcontrib) 23:51, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After seeing videos, it looks like the XL did NOT receive this upgrade. Thus, no need to update the timeline there. MikeM2010 (talk) 02:46, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Weathercaster up for deletion[edit]

I have added Weathercaster to WP:AFD, which is how the WeatherStar 4000 emulator died its Wikipedia death. The evidence stacks up:

  • the creator only worked on that article
  • KSMI Weather Service reads like a major fake - I think I've seen the name on YouTube
  • there's precedent for the deletion of weather emulators (our little screenshot is a straight-up fake)

Please weigh in at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Weathercaster. If I am right that this is a fake, tell me that.

I am also putting the image up for a deletion process.

Category:Court TV shows[edit]

I moved this from WP:RM to WP:CFD, as categories are not handled at WP:RM. I put it into the speedy category, meaning if there is no objection, it will be moved in 48 hours. 199.125.109.102 (talk) 01:16, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Wxscanis3.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Wxscanis3.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Your MfD nomination[edit]

I've closed the deletion discussion you opened at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/File:Tiwt.jpg. While deleting orphaned fair use images is important, MfD is not the process to use. Images should be nominated for deletion at Wikipedia: Files for deletion. However, orphaned fair use images, such as the one you nominated, should follow a different process. Simply place {{subst:orfud}} on the offending image's file description page. Once that has been placed, the file will be deleted in seven days unless the problem is corrected. Keep up the good work!--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 22:15, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Abrams & Bettes for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Abrams & Bettes is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abrams & Bettes until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Clarityfiend (talk) 18:20, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Abrams & Bettes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ukexpat (talk) 21:09, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sirens[edit]

Hi. Sorry, but you can't use 'made-up' for a siren. That's for things like drinking games, words that mean 'hello', 'frightened rabbit' and 'empty box lying on the bed of a river', and other bored student junk. If you think the siren doesn't exist, it would have to be hoax - but there are ghits. I agree that it's probably not notable (although widespread), and would suggest AfD for it, in case someone there can improve it to an acceptable standard. (Does happen in some unlikely cases...) Peridon (talk) 10:26, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There's a few of us that think we could cope with A7 covering everything (we're not obliged to delete anything and can just close the window gently and creep away...), but there's more that seem to think we couldn't. Some would like A7 scrapped because it involves making a judgement - but hell, so all the other criteria. Except for a two edit page requested deletion by the only author. (I won't delete the single edit user pages that consist of a deletion request - I think they're up to something and I haven't found out what yet...) Peridon (talk) 10:27, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you had a problem with the move I requested in November. Wikipedia users must be concerned with what article names make the most sense on Wikipedia, not on Facebook. However, since there is no other city named Kenosha in the United States, and it is well-known as one of the largest cities on the coast of Lake Michigan, the state name would probably not have to be required on Facebook pages. If the page is moved back to Kenosha, Wisconsin again, I will make a request to User:RHaworth to move-protect the page, as that topic seems to have been the source of edit warring and excessive, unnecessary editing. Have a nice day. Lord Laitinen (talk) 23:18, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't have an issue with you moving the page, I support it, however the Facebook page should not have been moved either. All cities in the United States on Facebook are supposed to have the state name in it, whether or not more than one city of the same name exists or how major the city is. It's likely just a glitch that occurred, however I've contacted multiple people within Wikipedia and Facebook and no one seems to understand what is going on. Area code 301[edit]

I'd like to thank you for telling me the area code map for area codes 301/240 was in error because I had recorded Pennsylvania area code 267 as 265. First thing I did was check the definitive official source, NANPA.COM and sure enough, you're right. I'm sure you understand I'm not going to take something from a source I've never heard from before as correct, however, if you had not given me the heads-up in the first place I might never have noticed the error. So I definitely appreciate that. Also, this meant the map for area code 410 is also wrong, since both use the exact same initial map, they just have the color of that region changed, i.e. the map for area code 301 has that region red and the rest of Maryland blue, and the reverse for area code 410. Then I notice the map shown on the page for Area code 410 is wrong; it's using the map for area code 301 instead of the map for area code 410. So that is another error I'm able to fix. So that's taken care of. Next, I need to check the maps for Pennsylvania to see if they have the same area. It's people like you who keep the quality of the encyclopedia high as this allows things to be fixed.

I do appreciate your help and if you again notice an area code map I uploaded where I have made an error or the information has changed, you are cordially invited to let me know. Does it cause me more work? Absolutely, but, if I'm going to upload reference material I want to be accurate, I have to know about errors or changes. I mean, I also created and maintain the area code maps for California. Fifteen different maps that have to be updated if there is an error (it happens) or a change. The one saving grace for all the area code maps I create is that I use SVG image files, which store everything on the page as vectors, meaning in this case the change only takes about 10 seconds.

Again, thank you for your help in keeping Wikipedia accurate.

PS: It looks like I dodged a bullet; surprisingly enough, the maps for Pennsylvania were correct.
